The Red Fish.

[The same ship as Ardyn. Lovely. That means he has to watch her or at least watch what he says around her so that it doesn't get back to that infuriatingly egotistical man. She'll have to forgive his rather derisive sneer for a minute.

It's not her fault he pretty much hates Ardyn. No, this woman has nothing to do with the chancellor and it's rude of Ignis to even equate her with him.]

I'm afraid that space travel is still something I must grow used to, but the people here are perfectly lovely, if not a little rigid, even for my tastes. As for the scenery, I've done my fair share of spelunking. This isn't even the worst set of caves I've come across.

[The lack of murderous spider-women and imps are a plus in his opinion.]

[She notices the sneer and raises an eyebrow, curious.]

Not too fond of my ship? I guess we're not the friendliest bunch.

[She doesn't know most of her crewmates very well, but they seem like an odd assortment. She's not really inclined to be offended on their behalf, though she might defend Carl if it came down to it. He seems like an okay kid.

She nods a little at his words about space travel, though.]

Yeah, I guess I'm the same. I'm used to ocean travel, but this is kind of new.

[What an impressive presence you have, young lady.]

It is not the ship I find issue with. It's Ardyn Izunia's presence upon it. There are few people I would rather see thrown out of one of the ship's airlocks.

[He leaves it unsaid that Ardyn is one of them. It's unnecessary.]

It takes some getting used to after only land travel for so long. I suppose it's much faster than a car. [Even if the Regalia is the fastest, most impressive machine on the road thanks to Cindy's handiwork.] I could do without the notion of being a spectacle somewhere.

Oh, him. Yeah. He talks a lot.

[That's it. That's her impression of Ardyn. Maybe talking a lot is important when you're a communications officer. She doesn't know and doesn't really care. She can see how he'd get on someone's nerves, though. And she understands anger and hatred well enough to not really be bothered by the implication that someone might want to toss him into the abyss of space. Rage happens.]

Right, uh, what's a car?

[That's not a mode of travel they have in her world. At least not in her time.]

If only that were the end of our problems.

[He mutters that under his breath, but if she asks for clarification, he might be inclined to give it. It's not as if she'd be the first to learn of his disdain for the other man outright. Or the last, he supposes.]

A car... it's a sort of carriage that moves with just a driver because it has a mechanical engine to do all of the work. It goes much faster than any beast of burden or a chocobo, but the drawback is that it's horrible on terrain that hasn't been paved.

[She's a little curious, but she decides to let it slide for now. She's not sure he'd really want to talk to a stranger about it, especially in the middle of a public market. And she doesn't really care enough about Ardyn to corner someone into talking about him. Though it might inspire her to keep a closer eye on him on the Red Fish.

She tilts her head a little, trying to imagine a carriage that moves on it's own. Kind of like the geoboard, maybe? But bigger. Hm.]

Huh. Sounds pretty convenient.

[If he felt the need to warn her, he would, but she seems to already have formed enough of an opinion of Izunia that makes anything he would say superfluous. "He talks too much" indeed.]

It can be, yes, but it requires a skilled mechanic to keep the maintenance up and those are hard to come by, even back on Eos. We were lucky to have run into one such person not far from our home, but having her travel with us would've been a little impractical.

[Even though he's not as vocal about it as Prompto could be, Ignis certainly appreciated Cindy's abilities. Of course, she was a charming woman on many other accounts, but her skill as a mechanic was second to none. Especially since her dedication to keeping the Regalia in as tiptop shape is what drove her a great deal of the time they were acquainted.

Not that he blamed her. The car was a work of art.]

As it stood, we stopped by to see her frequently and it benefited us to do so.

I guess most modes of transportation need some kind of upkeep, huh? Makes sense.

[The Van Eltia certainly needed its share, though she doesn't know much about the details. She let Eizen and his pirates handle that sort of thing.]

Yes, it would appear that is the case. Even if one relies on animals, you must feed, groom and board them regularly.

[He chuckles a little under his breath.]

Trust me. Chocobos can be moody enough as a mode of transportation. I'd hate to see what one not treated well would do. I've seen what they can do to daemons that attack them.

[She raises an eyebrow again. A word she recognizes and another she doesn't. She can't help but be curious.]

Daemons I'm familiar with. Not sure what a chocobo is, though.

[He's not sure that he's surprised that she is familiar with daemons. After talking to a fair few people, Ignis has realized that even though they might come from different worlds, there are striking similarities and never in the good way.

Besides, she holds herself like she's someone used to fighting, used to some violence.]

Chocobos are birds that stand about seven feet tall. They're normally yellow or golden and are trained to be ridden, either for sport or leisure. However, they have tempers and with claws about eight inches long on each foot, it can be dangerous to provoke them.

[He pulls out of his phone and shows her a picture that he's taken of the chocobo that he rode frequently on Eos.]

[She hesitates a moment, then moves closer to get a better look. She's still getting used to all this new technology.

She studies the image of the bird with some interest, though.]

Huh. Do they fly?

[He notices her hesitation and he can't help but smile a small bit. Some reluctance is always good. It's a sign that she's at least on guard a bit.]

Not in the way that you think, no. They jump rather high and can glide for great distances. They flap their wings to keep their bodies steady, I believe.

I'm not as avid a fan of chocobo as two of my friends are, but they are very interesting creatures.

[She likes the sound of that, honestly. Huge birds that find their own way to fly. That sounds pretty legitimate. Also he mentioned them being able to fight off daemons. Overall pretty useful birds. She approves.]

Yeah, they sound like it.

[He can't help but wonder if this woman has ever traveled any other way than on foot or by carriage. Riding a chocobo is definitely an experience that he would recommend to anyone available.

Except there weren't any chocobos on the Fleet as far as he was aware.]

If you'd like to know more, I can direct you to a friend of mine that is quite into them. Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to meet any while we're on these ships.

[She shifts her gaze from his phone to his face, raising an eyebrow.]

You sure I'm the sort of girl you want to introduce to your friends? You met me because I was terrorizing one of the locals.

[Her tone doesn't hold any kind of threat, though. It's more like she's just making an honest observation.]

[He is undeterred by her expression.]

If you're part of the Fleet, I doubt we can avoid meeting one another all eventually. There are only so many of us while we travel between systems, after all.

Besides, what makes you think I would leave the two of you alone? You are, after all, terrorizing the locals. Even if they do deserve it.

[The corner of her mouth quirks up at that, like she approves of that response.]

Yeah, okay. Fair enough.

[He is, if nothing else, careful about who is around Noctis when he can help it. Gladiolus isn't there, so it falls to him to make sure that someone has the Lucian king's back as he traverses through space.]

Besides, I find it rare that someone who is truly dangerous and means harm to anyone warns beforehand in such a straightforward manner. It's usually with pomp and over-exaggerated camaraderie.

Sounds like you have some experience.

[She can respect that. She's not the type to play someone or turn on them. She's had that happen, and she's not interested in subjecting anyone else to it. She still classifies herself as dangerous, though, just by virtue of what she is.]

You say you're acquainted with Ardyn Izunia, yes? Speak with him and then consult me afterwards.

[Experience is the least of his worries on that front.]

However, if you're interested in keeping from getting a headache, I would suggest you keep a distance from him.

Him again, huh?

[She shrugs and waves her hand.]

His complaining about the food is enough of a headache for me, thanks.

[Meaning she probably won't jump to confront him about anything. She's still thinking about keeping an eye on him, though.]

[Her comment is surprising and causes him to let out a soft chuckle.]

That would explain why he is continually bringing up my skill in the kitchen. I suppose he thinks that if he strokes my ego enough, I'll make food for him.

[He'd rather stab him with his lance than feed him if the truth is told.]

I find it hard to feel pity for him in that regard.

Oh, yeah. Probably.

[It doesn't really surprise her, considering how he complained about the lack of flavor in the gel packs they're given. Though this also tells her Ardyn is the manipulative type, if he sucks up to people to get them to do what he wants.]

[Now, he's not kidding, but he does like her attitude in regards to the topic.]

I find the pleasure I receive from cooking is in seeing those that I like enjoying it. Otherwise, I can spend my time doing something else.
