[ It's as if she doesn't quite understand that her possessions link to her memories, and she shakes her head. ]

[Damnit, Atroma, this isn't okay. Welp, whatever he touches is probably going to be awful, so he's just gonna go for it and hope he can put the pieces back together afterwards. He'll head to the music box,
tapping it with a candle. ]

It makes a lovely sound.

[Which probably means it's terrible. He's learning, go him. ]

[ The music is gentle and seems to fill the room, as if someone else has stepped in to bring life to the emptiness and exhaustion that had been Hermione's own presence. It gets bigger and bigger and bigger until there's almost nothing left but a feeling over being completely overwhelmed, completely undone by the strength and raw power.

It, of course, comes with a memory, that strikes with fear and terror through, leaving nothing but a cold feeling in its wake.

Hermione is back at her desk, but she does look a little more haggard this time. ]

[Lumière's making an executive decision not to touch anything else. Nothing good comes from touching things in this room. The danger, the fear, that is nothing to that horrible feeling of betrayal that comes with the memory. It takes him a moment to shake himself out of it, before hopping over to Hermione. ]

That was- Why did he try to kill you?

[ She says it as if it's normal, natural, even though it's the complete opposite. ]

I had to learn to be stronger and braver and that's what he had to do.

[Yeah, sorry, Hermione, this is the absolute opposite of normal. Even the guy trapped in a candelabra can see this is not normal. ]

By...trying to kill you? Forgive my presumptions, but aren't there easier ways of teaching a lesson?

Maybe, but they weren't exactly the sort of thing he would do.

[ She looks up, finally, tilting her head. ]

Gilgamesh. Someone important to you? I would assume anyway, given how close he got to you in the first place.

[Hermione strikes him as someone who keeps people she considers true enemies as far away as possible. He wouldn't blame her on that one. ]

[ It was a bit more complicated than that, but at heart... He wanted her for her power and her strength, not herself. ]

[There's a decided pause, here. ]

I...was not aware attempting to kill someone was such an important part of courting someone. Clearly I have been doing it wrong.

[ At any other time it might make her laugh, but this is not a Hermione designed for laughter. ]

He was not the most sensible of people. Not in the least. He was a prat, actually.

[ She was going to say 'single', but that was only true because Cisco had been taken from them. She's still getting over it. ]

[He would have liked Cisco a lot, in all honesty. He lets out a relieved sigh- none of this is his business of course, but since when has that stopped him putting his nose into anything.]

That is a relief to hear. I know I am not aware of the whole story, but a man who feels he needs to teach you a lesson at all is not deserving of you.

[ Hermione does manage something like a smile, as if she, too, is just as relieved by the reminder of her own spinsterhood. ]

He was an interesting person. He's not something I can describe in words.

No, I would find it difficult to describe him from what little I know of him already. He sounds like he was...an experience?

An experience is certainly a very good word. [ Hermione sighs, shaking her head. ] He was important to me, though.

Hm. Sometimes those that are not exactly of the best... temperament still end up being valuable people in our lives, no? Not marriage material, but still important.

Exactly. At least you understand. [ Bowing her head, she closes her eyes. ] He wasn't a good person, but... I saw some good in him.

Probably better than you realise, mon trésor. [Adam was...difficult, even more so after the curse, and yet Lumière would have his Master's back though anything. No matter what he put himself into, what he put his staff though. ]

Sometimes, you have to take a stand and fight for that tiny spark of goodness. To perhaps make it bigger, or brighter. To give them a chance to change for the better.
