My knife slipped while I was cooking. Terribly novice of me.
[He holds the hand carefully still, so very self-conscious. Though he certainly wouldn't push away help, of course. It's a lovely thing, when people all work and keep busy aboard the ships, after all... It's hardly deep. It's just a bit of a bleeder, that it looks worse than it actually is. It looks like it smarts, though.]
I'm not usually that absent-minded while I work. It's been a long few weeks, I suppose.

[As he gave his instructions he flashed Jarvis a charming smile just in case a bit more convincing needed done, then headed over to get some of the gauze in stock to clean the wound.]

[He's about to explain that really, he can handle it himself -- but of course, he thinks of Miss Carter, of the day he had stitched and cleaned her injury back home. She'd been determined to turn away his aid, so he feels he'd be rather hypocritical if he did the same here... even if it is just a simple injury. He clears his throat and moves to sit as instructed.]
Very well! I wouldn't worry about time; I have fair amount on my hands to visit new crewmates, anyway.
no subject
I appreciate the hello, but you needn't have cut open your palm for a meeting. [He flashed a smirk.]
Anders. It's a pleasure to meet you. Are you Jarvis? Your reputation proceeds you.
no subject
[He was unaware he had a rep; usually, he's the worker behind the scenes.
He winces only mildly, settling.]
I merely cook for the ship, really. Nothing too extravagant.

[With the blood mostly cleaned away, Anders' hand starts to glow a with a gentle blue light as his magic seeps into Jarvis' hand to sew the torn skin back together. In a matter of seconds, the wound is gone with barely a slight discoloration to even indicate it had been there at all.]
There we go.

He blinks his surprise, is quiet a beat, and then looks up with some interest. Much like a boy to a magician's trick, really. He's used to the bizarre and extraordinary here, but it still catches him now and then just how marvelous some of the skill-sets here are.]
You're a magic user!
no subject
I am. I'm naturally inclined to healing, but there's a gamut of things I can do.
Feel better?
no subject
[He gives his palm a rub with his opposite hand.]
I must admit, it's all hard for me to wrap my head around...
Though thanks to this place, I have... learned a few little tricks. A bit of magic, perhaps.
Or maybe it's something scientific, from these augments; I'm not really sure.
no subject
[He smiled and turned to dispose of the bloodied gauze.]
I'm finding there's a lot of overlap between what people from home would consider magic and what people from other places would call science. Some of what others say science and technology can do here or back in their homes is accomplished just the same with advanced magic back in Thedas.
If you don't mind my curiosity: what have you picked up?

[He's going to find an abandoned cup of -- coffee? Yes, coffee, and he will hold it over toward the man, curling one hand around the very cold glass. He focus for a moment, and as he does, steam begins to rise from the slowly warming coffee.]
I can warm things -- or start a very small fire, with my hands.
And thanks to a planet we visited before, I've gotten the skill of breathing under water as well.
[He's rather proud of this, okay.]
no subject
I was on that planet as well, I have yet to give that ability a try.
[As interesting and useful as breathing underwater was, he was still clearly hung up on Jarvis' first trick.
He reached for the cup and marveled a bit at the steam coming off the definitely day-old liquid.]
And you didn't have these gifts before? Just since arriving here. I had no idea they could do that.
You haven't found any ill-effects, have you? Loss of control, setting things on fire you didn't mean to like even a pillow or a towel? No extra fatigue or headaches?
no subject
[None he's noticed, anyway.]
... The augment in our necks help us control it, I think. I had paid credits toward them to give it to me -- after all, we've already got these devices in our bodies. I figure I might as well use it to my advantage, if I must endure having it at all.
[It was a bit of a risk at first, but so far, the worst risk is removing the blasted thing.]
no subject
[Most people without magic or similar abilities preferred to keep it that way, scared of what the power might allow them. For all Jarvis knew, he could be stepping into some gifted ability that caused him to light the sheets on fire instead of warm things up.]
Let me know if anything ever does feel off, all right? And...if you learn anything else new, I'd love to see it.
no subject
[Har har. He sounds like he totally doesn't believe he lives dangerously.]
I will let you know, either way... It's good to get a first-hand way of exploring these strange augments, at the very least.
no subject
As much as I don't really like the idea of using a person as a test subject, I have to admit I think it's a good thing as well. We won't learn anything about them doing nothing.
no subject
But I'd rather it be me than some other poor soul, I suppose.
[He likes most people on this fleet too much to leave it to them, you know!]
