sooner or later, god'll cut you down.

Who: Everyone
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Lato'li's orbit and also planetside.
When: Forward dated to 11/15.

[The Interceptor Fleet moves into position, waiting for the last few shield generators to fall. And in the early hours of the 15th, they do. The shield dissolves with a blip as if it was never there, leaving the man-eaters as prone as their prey. The Interceptors send out a transmission-- an unholy mix of Cockney and Australian that graces every available communicator-- if they answer it.]

We’re firin’! Do yer worst, Vieziri! We’re gonna kick yer sorry arses so hard you’ll kiss the moons!

[Five Interceptor ships swoop out of the dark and unload their various weaponry onto the Vieziri warships. At the same time, people stranded on the planet below ready the anti-aircraft guns onto their makers. And of course there is the Fleet itself, battered and yet beautiful across the velvet sky, as they fire everything they have.

Now the Vieziri start moving. Though the big red ship can’t do much maneuvering, the rest of the Vieziri warships certainly can. They fire back at the Interceptors and whoever else fires at them, willing to defend their leader and lose their lives in the process.

Luckily, the Interceptors have their own daring ships, which may look familiar to those who were here for the raider attack. One is emblazoned with racing stripes and flames all along the hull, and it moves so fast it nearly enters hyperspace. It’s there and gone in a flash, weaving past the enemy in crazy thrillseeking loops. Still another Interceptor ship is painted red and orange with a gold plate near the front, which reads BAMF with no explanation. This one has guns aplenty and easily weathers any duel it gets into. The third Interceptor ship is beautiful gold and black, sleek as hell and engineered with sense; this one packs the most gadgets and formidable guns of all calibers, and appears to do the most damage. Trailing behind is a much smaller ship, so nondescript it almost doesn’t stand out at all-- that is, until it forms a barrier to absorb some oncoming fire and reflect it back at the Vieziri.

There’s one ship that’s missing, though-- the one that was blown up several months ago after the heist. In its place is a small black ship that runs invisible to radar, sweeping past with silent speed as it lets loose a barrage of photon missiles onto the Vieziri flagship.

Down below, the Vieziri come out in full force-- one last stand before the warlord falls, trying to finish their fell rituals. Some of them rush the encampments, some go for the cities. Near the restored comms tower, a cloaked figure with a plain white mask fights their way through the onslaught using a plasma blade and a laser rifle.

After an hours-long siege, the big warship finally takes too much fire and breaks apart, lighting up the sky with falling shards like stars. The biggest debris burns up in orbit, but little pieces still rain down. It signals the end as the Vieziri begin to retreat both on ground and in the air. The loss of their leadership leaves them scattered and panicked.

The Fleet has won the day, but as the sun rises again over the wreckage, there is still plenty of work to be done.]

[ooc: Feel free to assume the Interceptors are helping your ships! The gold and black ship can be hailed and will give responses, as she’s been the main point of contact during this plot. You can also run into Zhade, though tags will be slow for both accounting for RL things. Please mark Zhade or Interceptors in the header of your toplevel if you’d like NPC interaction.

Any questions should be asked on the plot post for phase two.]

VIEZIRI BLOOD RITUALS

[ Lavellan knows it's not a very good plan. Really, it's up there with some of the worst she's ever had, including chasing after an elven apostate through mirror networks and stepping foot into a magical ritual with a Darkspawn. Half of those things had been accidents, at least, but this? This is all her own genius idea, and she thinks it's going to work out marvellously. What seems more important than running around like a headless animal trying to find out where to go and what to do is actually getting to the heart of the matter - and that's finding out where the Vieziri come from. It was the same as searching for the source of the Red Lyrium or the heart of earthquakes; find the source and you can end it all.

Kidnapping wasn't exactly what she had in mind, but she's here now.

The Vieziri seemed more than happy to have her there, at least, and she pretends as though she's far more tired than she is, allowing herself to be carted off and carried back. She doesn't expect to be tied up, and when that happens all she can do is cough out an idle Dalish curse, nipping the bud of 'Dread Wolf take you' that hovers on the tip of her tongue. That hits a little too close to home and she has to give up on some unconscious quirks with all the revelations that have hit her in the last few months.

It takes her a little while to focus, to gather herself, to push her strength into what she wants to do. Justice had taken good care of her and her hand hurt less, but there was one thing she knew that she could do, one helpful thing, and that was to light a beacon. If more people could get here, if more people could find their way to the midst of the Vieziri base and disrupt more of these rituals then there's more chance for them to get off this hellish planet and get back into space.

If it keeps up like this it will kill you. Solas must help -

She drowns out the sound of Cassandra in the back of her mind and feels herself focussing, thinking about her power and nothing else. When the Anchor explodes it's a bright, green light, surely large enough to be seen from some distance in the darkness around her, and it makes her scream in agony. It also does short work of the Vieziri around her, and probably does something a little less comfortable to all the other victims of the ritual.

Work done, all Leilani can do is slump down, her hand burning and her mind screaming as she tries to catch her breath. A little fire magic and she can free herself, then all she has to do is stand up, and after that all she has to do is walk, and then... Then there's another fight, but it's one step at a time for now. More people will come and they will take down the Vieziri and return to their fleet - she will get people home. That's always been what she cared about most. ]

PLANETSIDE SEIGE

[ Somehow, she survives through the blood ritual and the pain in her hand, and it feels as though her arm is going to literally drop off, but none of that matters. What matters is moving forward and gathering whatever she can to help fight, and the pain she's feeling is secondary to that. As soon as the rituals were disrrupted a group of them ran towards the towns and cities, and Leilani is hot on their heals, rushing after them with her scrappy machete and all the strength she has left. She's exhausted and on edge, anger flaring her power more than anything else, but she is done with these things. She's done with being chased, with fearing for her friends, with her anger and her frustration and her own indecision.

She remembers her council with Cullen and the others, remembers her anger - about Orlais, about Ferelden, about her hand and the stupid world that just wouldn't stay fixed. It feels like it's eons away from this moment in time, her body moving as she summons Rift magic, a Veilstrike moving from the ground to hit one of the hunters, her magic drawing them together so she can try to encase them in ice. At the same time, it doesn't feel as though much has changed - one fight to another, constantly at war, constantly in the middle of it, as Inquisitor or as Leilani or as nothing at all. At least it's something, she tells herself, and if she has to hurt to make a victory then that's one less person that has to hurt in the end.

As the fight goes on she flags, a little, exhaustion catching up with her, but she doesn't really make any effort to stop for a break. Instead, she steps back to lay ice traps, following the traces of Vieziri around her, chasing them down and trying to lure them back to where others, stronger than she is, can take them down. It's only when she is close to collapsing from her own tiredness that she pauses, leaning against a tree and taking a few long, deep breaths. ]

[Takeshi is in it to win it, so to speak. That is, when the Vieziri launch their attacks on the planet, he's ready, suited up in his usual black powersuit and flying into the scene with quite the speed and durability -- if someone's in trouble or needing a tag-team, he's there, screaming out fiercely but lacking puberty as he slams a fist into one of the cannibal's faces.]

Don't worry!! I'm here for you!!

[And he is. No matter what you need, he'll be ready to smash together some heads with you!

Or -- if you're so kind, there are quite a few times where he's being ganged up on; one can tell by the Vieziri flying left and right as they try to wrangle the boy, or the giant rocks he's picking up and hurdling at their heads. The cannibals with spears throw them, and he narrowly evades both them and the bursts of gunfire that follow.

Help a guy out??]

ATTACK THE VIEZIRI BASE MINGLE | Planetside

[personal profile] whatisright 2017-11-12 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Justice has distributed information about the locations of the Vieziri bases to everyone planetside. He has given people a heads up about the numbers, defenses, and layouts they should expect. Anyone who volunteers will be given instructions on where to go--or maybe someone just stumbles into the firefight by accident.

The Vieziri camps are entrenched and well fortified with Gatling guns, laser weapons, and so on. Every camp is assigned a large team to attack it and all the weapons Justice has been able to get his hands on have been distributed.

The Vieziri are not going to take kindly to their camps being attacked, but wiping them out is the only way to save this planet. Good luck, Fleeters.]

Blood Rituals

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-11-12 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's no missing that bright light in the distance, lighting up the sky like lightning. Except that's definitely not lightning since she's pretty sure that even on murder planet, lightning isn't green. As she starts to move closer, she hears what follows it: a piercing scream.

Yep, not lightning. Definitely someone hurt. Fuck.

Riona's breaks out into a sprint. While she misses having armor, it's sort of nice to also not have it in instances like these where she's got to run like a motherfucker. It's also like, way less exhausting now to sprint like this. As she nears the source of the weird light, she slows a bit, hand reaching out and drawing out her shield. Maker knows what she's about to walk in on.

When she reaches the clearing, her heart slams against her chest. This is... is this what the villagers were talking about? Where their missing people go? And uh. That's a lot of dead Vieziri.

And that's a tied up Leilani in the middle of them all.]

Leilani! [Riona swings her shield onto her back before she runs up to the elf, drawing out a knife and starting to cut at her binds.] Was that you who lit up the sky like that? What happened?

[ That can't be good is the first thing Rowan thinks when he sees the light in the sky; bright green against the deep red of the planet. Were he not a Dragon Age protagonist, he might actually think to run away from the light, thinking it another potential danger that should be avoided on this already dangerous planet. However he has been afforded no such luxury, and his instinct tells him to move toward it. The pained scream that follows confirms his decision.

With a nod of his head to his elven companion surely by his side, Rowan pulls one of his makeshift arrows out of the quiver on his back and readies his bow as he runs. He fully expects an attack on the way there, but they somehow manage to avoid any and all lifeforms until they reach the source of the bright green light. The sight is — well, it's something, and he only has a few seconds to really parse through what has happened before his eyes set on the two women in the middle. Both familiar. One clearly hurt. He darts toward them.

What happened? Is a great question, and for once Rowan is silent as he awaits for the elven woman to answer. He knocks an arrow and waits, hovering close to make sure that, if someone tries to get to either Riona or Leilani, that they have to deal with him first. ]

Planning the Attack

[It is impossible for a mortal to understand how happy Justice is right now. There aren't words to describe what it's like to be a spirit fulfilling its virtue, especially after it's been restrained so long.

He seems brighter as he works, like maybe there's a light under his skin that's beginning to burn, and he talks succinctly and animatedly about what he's found and how the attacks should proceed. When he's done, he rolls up the makeshift maps he's created, offering them to anyone who is listening.]

Are there any questions?

Attack on a Camp I

[He is so happy, you guys.

This is his element. The anti-aircraft weapons are destroyed, and the Vieziri fleet is wrapped up in orbit. The Vieziri are firing from their walls, but there's plenty of cover in the form of trees and foliage, and they didn't have enough warning to fortify their defenses. Some of them are panicking, and that makes their thoughts very loud.

Justice knows they're loading up the Gatling gun even if he can't see it. The thoughts sing to him. He signals to anyone he can see.]
Get on the ground, stomach to the dirt.

Attack on the Camp II

[After they breach the walls, the attack gets much easier. The Vieziri still have guns, but their heavy artillery weaponry can't be used at such close range. Justice doesn't like using the gun at close range, so once he gets a few Vieziri at close range without their guns, he just pulls out a machete.

They have machete's of their own, so it's not exactly an uneven fight, but Justice can predict what they're about to do right before they do it, avoiding their blades before cutting one Vieziri down at the knee.

But with that distraction, another Vieziri from above is leveling its gun at him.]

[ Leilani is not having as much fun as her spiritual counterpart. She is exhausted, the weight of her actions pressing down on her and making her feel as though she's going to collapse, her hand is burning and coiling up her arm as if it's going to explode all over again - and she's been using the Anchor despite the ache and the threat because she can't risk another explosion - leaving her desperate for this all to be over. She wants to get back into the air, she wants to get back into orbit, and she wants to sleep for about a century.

She finally understands the urge for the Uthenera. She could sleep for that long if she was given half the chance.

At least working with people around her is easy and fighting with Justice at her side is familiar to her now. She moves forward with her machete and her magic, casting down any of the Vieziri that come towards them, letting him take the brunt of it - not because she can't handle it but because he's incredibly good at doling out the justice. The only thing that stops her is the edge of their little group, a gun aimed up at the spirit, and with a vicious noise she turns, practically tackling the hunter and slamming her elbow into it's face before she grabs it's gun. ]

Riona Cousland Theirin | OTA

[Time to murder some cannibals.]

A. Preparations

[So uh. That sure is a fortified base they have there. With some weaponry Riona's not exactly familiar with. This might suck a bit, guys.

Nonetheless, Riona's ready (or as ready as one can be) for whatever they're about to charge into. She's sharpening her sword, making sure it's primed for the battle. It's also to help calm her mind and aid her in focusing. It's a bit easier knowing death isn't permanent in the fleet. But that doesn't make the prospect of what they're about to face much less daunting.]

I hope my shield holds up against their guns well enough. [She trusts Sokka's handiwork, but this... might be a bit much for it.] This is what I get for not commissioning a new armor set.

B. The Siege

[Plan's been made, everyone's ready, and now the assault's been launched. Time to fight, am I right?

Riona's on the front lines, so to speak, given that she's got a shield and all. And also a sword. Which she uses to cut and tear up a lot of Vieziri, once they manage to actually get into their base and are within reach of the blade. She tears through them, cutting them down where they stand.

But she also plays defense quite a bit. It's a little hard without armor, but the shield does a decent job holding up to whatever the Vieziri throw at her. There's a good chance that, if you're finding yourself swarmed with people or are of the squishier variety and need some protection, Riona will be charging in, shield forward, and bashing some people in the face to get them off of you.]

C. The Aftermath

[Ow, ow and ow. But hey, they won!

Riona's gotten injured worse, to her credit. This isn't all that bad. Still, it sucks to have to dig a bullet out of her arm. She winces as she pries it out with a knife, gritting her teeth to keep herself from screaming. As much as it hurts, it's a relief to feel the bullet pop out. With that out of her, she takes to ripping some of her shirt to use as a bandage. But it's tricky to wrap up the wound when it's on your arm.]

Can you give me a hand, please? Just tie this up tight.

[A bright light flashing upwards into the sky reminds him of several things. Most of them have to do with the Battle of Denerim, but then he notices that odd green color. That isn't as familiar, but it only takes him a moment to recall that odd green swirl of magic that he remembers from the elf in the woods. The version he saw was much smaller, but honestly how many things on this planet could look like that? And then the scream.]

I think we have our bearing.

[When Rowan gives him a nod, he returns it. He pulls from his belt the dagger that Riona had given him, and the dagger he took from a previous encounter with the hunters. His shoulder still gives a quiet ache with each move, but it isn't enough to stop him and follows as both of his companions rush forward. He watches for a moment as he crouches and waits for his moment to strike, and then he sees the pretty elf from before. He carefully takes a few steps out of the brush to move closer to Riona and Leiana, just in case.]

I don't remember explosions being mentioned when we spoke before.

[ While she expected people to come running - that was the point, after all, of her being kidnapped in the first place - she hadn't thought that so many people would come at once. For a long moment she can't quite focus on what any of them are saying or what is going on; the only thing that her mind can focus on is the horrific pain that's flooding her hand, the pulse of the explosion and the Anchor wildly out of control. It's not going to kill her, she hopes, but it's enough to leave her hurting and that has her collapsed onto her knees, her arms bent awkwardly behind her.

When Riona frees her hands she falls forward, gripping the wrist below the Anchor with shaking hands. The urge to curl around herself and cry is overpowering, but she refuses to break down in front of near strangers. She is the Inquisitor, she is of Clan Lavellan, and she holds herself high because she has never had any choice. Slowly, she shifts up onto her knees, swallowing the urge to cry out again as she shakes her head. ]

The Vieziri keep people for blood sacrifices. I wanted to make sure that people could find where they were and help get them get back to their homes.

[ She hadn't imagined that the explosion would be as devastating as it has been, but the last few times she used the Anchor it had only been her and a few people at her side. It's obviously dangerous, and she knows she has to make sure that she doesn't let it build up as much as it did this time. Discharging it is painful, but in the long run? It could save lives. Glancing at Zevran, she smiles wryly. ]

The green light was the Anchor. It's a discharge of it's power, and it causes an explosion like that. Don't worry - you're all safe.

[ For now. If it builds up again she'll just have to slip away and take care of it, easily done. Shifting, she looks around, trying to see if she can find herself a weapon. ]

I'm fine, don't worry, we need to look for survivors - [ Even as she moves she winces, but it's fine. She doesn't care. She has to move. ]

[ Zack and Cloud might have wanted her to avoid the main conflict, but Aerith has never quite been able to run away from a fight. It means she was there to help, casting Ice magic and standing to the side, careful and sure of herself; her main task is a healer and she knows it, recognising where her strengths lie, and that's what she wants to do. When the battle is coming to an end and people stop to take care of themselves, she wanders around to check in on people - and that's when she spots Riona.

Walking over, she gasps quietly, bending down and taking the woman's arm. ]

Oh, just - don't move.

[ The Cure materia isn't the strongest magic she's used, but she focusses all the same. The injury is painful, and she can help it seal up, but it'll be sore for a long while. The body can only heal so much with magic; the rest has to be done by itself. After she's done, Aerith takes the fabric and wraps Riona's arm gently, lifting her head to smile. ]

[Riona glances back when she hears others running towards them. Her hand begins to go for her shield, but it pauses mid-way when she sees it's just Rowan and Zevran. She nods to them, releasing a silent breath in relief. Leilani's explosion might attract more attention, and not necessarily the good kind. If more Vieziri come, and with Leilani hurt, she's not sure how well she'd be able to hold them off on her own. That's a worry alleviated. But honestly, she's far more concerned about the elf clutching her hand in pain.

There's a frown that pulls at her lips as Leilani explains what happened and what she did.]

We'll check for survivors when we're done making sure you're okay. Or if one of our fine gentlemen here want to take a look. If I'm understanding this right, [Putting a hand on the Inquisitor's shoulder to hold her still. Girl you should not be moving right now.] you walked into the middle of the Vieziri doing a blood ritual, by yourself, and made an explosion with the thing on your hand. Which looks extremely painful, considering how tightly you're gripping at it and your movements.

[Her frown deepens.]

Well, if you wanted to get people's attention, you certainly did a fine job of it. [ He's of the same mind as Riona, though. If they could see it from their various points on the planet, then surely more Vieziri will have seen it too and come to investigate. They likely have a limited window of time to search for survivors, get them to safety, and potentially fend of anyone that comes to attack them.

He lowers his bow for now, looping it around his shoulders. He gives Zevran a look, cocking his head in some vague direction. ]
Think you could scout the area real fast, Zev? I'd offer to come with you, but I think I'm about to have my hands full.

Yes ma'am.

[Riona keeps still, watching quietly as Aerith's magic - which is somehow connected to the small little ball she has there ?? - patches up her wound. Already the pain begins to ease, allowing Riona's muscles to relax from the wound state they were in. When Aerith finishes bandaging it, Riona smiles.]

It's no trouble. I like to be able to help.

[ After years of running and hiding from the Turks she's glad she can actually make herself useful. It's not the same as the strength she worked up to at home, but it's enough to help Riona, and that makes her feel better. It mean that Zack and Cloud believe in her as well, and that fills her with a kind of happiness she can't express. ]

It's because of the materia that Zack gave me. [ She motions to the small green orb. ] The spell is called 'Cure' and it's healing magic. Anyone who has the orb can use the magic, but I've always been better at using magic than other people.

Yes.

[A simple answer as he steps into the shadows where they seem to bend and twist around him until he can not be seen. He keeps his makeshift weapons in his hands, just in case. His steps are careful and quiet and he goes further and further away from them. And then he sees them, rustling leaves from the trees and bushes, and one hunter all on his own.

He freezes in his place and when the Vieziri is close enough, he wraps his arm around it's face to cover it's mouth with his arm as his blade pulls across it's neck. Black blood pours from the slit and he quickly pushes the body into a patch of heavy brush. He gives it a hasty pat down and takes anything he thinks they might need before he makes a speedy retreat.]

Is that what that little thing is? [Riona peers at it curiously. Mages back home channel their magic through the Fade. How did I...?

[ Leilani's face twists a little - because she knows just how honest she has to be, especially when these people have come here to help her. The awkwardness she feels makes her stomach feel as though it's knotting up, and she has to take a few short, deep breaths before she's actually able to talk. Riona has a point; it's hurting, and she has to fight through it.

Shifting a little, she makes to try and get up, ignoring Riona trying to get her to stop moving. ]

I let them kidnap me. If I could find where they brought people I would be able to get people to help, and it worked.

[ But, oh, suddenly she's being lifted into Rowan's arms and she blinks, her cheeks heating just a little. Her hand is throbbing, but she lets herself relax, just enough that she can lean into him. The only thing that stops her from being completely relaxed is Zevran calling for them, and then she's wiggling, scrambling to be let down and drop out of Rowan's arms so she can grab a weapon and get moving. ]

You let them - are you bloody -

[The makings of The Look are starting to form, and there's a lecture incoming. Oh no. She's gone into Mom Friend mode. But before she can, two things happen that actually manage to stop both things dead in their tracks. One, Leilani's lifted up and Riona blinks in surprise. Well okay then. That's fine. She'll just stand up and resume-

And that's when thing number two happens, the one that's considerably more alarming. She snaps around in the direction Zevran's at. Shit.]

Andraste's tits. I thought we'd have more time. [Sword and shield out, she heads over towards Zevran, eyeing the treeline.] Leilani's got a point. We need to get any survivors out of here, too. I can try holding them off while someone gets the survivors out.

Quick question. What was your plan if this didn't work? Just wondering. [ Not that he wouldn't have done something similar — but she doesn't need to know that. Rowan glances back when he hears Zevran speak, heaving a heavy sigh as his arms remain locked around the squirming elf in his arms. ]

I'm fairly certain you count among the survivors here. We can fend off the cannibals, but there's no way I'm letting you run headfirst into danger when you can barely stand. You're far too pretty to die.

Yes. [ It's no issue for her to move and show it to Riona, to offer a smile and a nod of her head. It's magic that anyone can use so she knows it's surprising for some people - she's been learning that magic isn't so easily gained in other worlds. ] The more you use it the stronger it gets, too. It trains and grows with you, so it's a good idea to keep them with you even if you don't think you'll need it.

Well said, my Warden.

[The threat of danger is momentary forgotten as he smiles at Leilani and sends her a knowing wink. He looks over to the tree line as Riona shifts into defense mode. They would be here soon, they were running out of time. The blade on his uninjured side twirls in his hand for a moment before he turns back to Rowan and nods towards where they came from.]

Take her to safety, I shall stay with Riona and find who I can.

[Before Rowan can even argue he is gone into the shadows.]

[ The wink and the compliment are momentarily distracting, and she realises that it's probably their intention - to have her thoughts elsewhere while they make the plans for her. Frowning, she moves, shifting again, and she'd be down and out of Rowan's arms if it wasn't for his grip on her. Damn shems and their strength - all she can do is look up at him, almost glaring. She's about to say something to Zevran when he practically disappears, and suddenly she feels as though she has no idea what to do. ]

I didn't need a second plan. This one worked.

[ But she doesn't need to be on her feet to be a bit of trouble for the Vieziri. Shifting in Rowan's arms, she ignores the pain in her hand and focusses what little magic she has left to build an ice wall between themselves and the attackers, hoping that Zevran isn't going to find it too troublesome to work around. Then she can't quite help the way she slumps into Rowan's arms, more tired than she was trying to let on. ]

I'm not too pretty to be useful. I still have my magic and my Anchor.

It grows stronger with you? How odd. But I suppose rather useful. [If also not a bit potentially dangerous. Get enough powerful materia gathered, and a person could be almost nigh unstoppable, or so how she sees it, anyway.] What other kinds of materia are there? Do you have ones that cast flames and ice and the like?

Your Anchor which seems to be causing you considerable pain, and given your apparent exhaustion, I'm not too certain your mana's where it needs to be in order to fight.

[Just putting up that ice wall seems to have taken a lot out of Leilani. Riona's been around and fought with mages for long enough to know the signs of low mana. While she understand Leilani wants to help, she's done more than enough, and needs to rest.]

This is nothing Zevran and I can't handle. Get to safety, both of you. We'll catch up soon.

[And there she goes, zooming off after Zevran into the forest. So far it's quiet, but as she runs, she sees an animal running in the opposite direction, seemingly in a hurry. Something else chased it towards her.]

I think they're coming.
