[it's a cute form ok sometimes you have to make sacrifices] Mmm, yes and no? I don't know if it ever made it into our holy material, but for a long time certain classes wore certain fabrics. I imagine that extended into religion, given how important it was at the time.

...I guess every species has a way of distinguishing that, [Cas admits, thinking about his own siblings. They didn't wear necklaces or whatever but they sure did figure out how to enforce a caste system.

Anyway,] Though I'll admit, I kind of miss the furs and skins days. A lot less complicated.

It isn't exclusive to a species, no. Though one has to wonder if we learned it from them, or they learned it from us. [she'd be willing to bet it goes both ways, but that's just her]

It was pretty simple, wasn't it? If messy and smelly. No one cared as much about what they looked like in those days.

It's not their fault, [Castiel answers charitably. It's not humanity's fault that they smell bad and have to defecate all the time. They were put together to be gross.] There're so many things you have to do just to survive day to day. It's overwhelming just trying to find food to eat.

Oh, I know. It wasn't a slight against them. [you got used to all of that anyway] But I'm glad they've come a long way from that. They're a very resourceful species.

[is it time to gush about humanity because here for that] They are. They're resilient and they're...chronically stubborn. Freedom and choice comes so naturally to them, and they're so forgiving and their ingenuity knows no bounds.

And all the imprinting. The range of material items they'll imprint on is impressively diverse.

It's incredibly fascinating - I wish I understood it better, but no one can explain it very well. And it holds such incredible value to them.

[OMG ok Cas has been training for this, trying to explain weird mortal idiosyncrasies to other immortal beings] It's because they're so social, but occasionally can't have contact with others of their kind. So they tend to attach feelings and personalities to objects, so that they can achieve the necessary social interaction they need to stay healthy.

[oh gosh a real answer, look at this intent face as he explains] So that's why . . . [her face scrunches up a little more in thought] But doesn't that make it more difficult for them, when they finally achieve real social interaction?

[SHE GETS IT!!! DEAR FUCK] Not necessarily. Humans in particular have a near limitless capacity for forming bonds. Although total isolation tends to inflict permanent damage, depending on the length of time and the individual.

I see . . . [she's quiet while she processes before giving a quick nod] Thank you for explaining it, I've always wondered. Some things you can't pick up, no matter how long you live among them.

It's very difficult, [Castiel agrees, hands in his pockets.] I'm fortunate to have had very diligent teachers. Watching humanity for eons yielded far less understanding than interacting with them in just a handful of years.

Oh, that must be incredibly beneficial. [it must be so nice to be able to interact with humanity as oneself openly] I'd been watching for a while before they let me live among them, but a lot of it I had to learn on my own.

[angelofthevored]

[Tilts head] Could you not assume your current form among them before then?

[dreamvour]

[she shakes her head] I didn't have that power originally - it was given to me when I started working for the gods. After that, they gifted it to me, because it was easier to help humans when I was among them.

I see. [Well, that makes sense too. Cas couldn't exactly pop into a vessel whenever he felt like it, after all; only when Heaven deemed it necessary.] What sort of work do you do?

[dreamvour]

[it's so nice to talk to someone who just gets it, y'know?] There's very strict laws in place to keep all of us in line, but sometimes someone will find a loophole into the human world. So creatures like me are there to make sure they don't get out of hand - or clean up, if they do.

Kind of like a supernatural police officer, really.

[for REAL though. Cas loves the Winchesters but sometimes it's so tiring, having to explain himself over and over.] Ah, I understand. That's actually a lot like what my friends do. [That's kind of nice though, supernatural creatures policing each other rather than humans having to defend themselves. In a better world, right?]

Really? I didn't know it was something that happened in other worlds. I'm glad; it's incredibly necessary. [if only it worked as well as the gods intended it to, but those are just minor details]

Well, unfortunately, on my Earth humans end up having to defend themselves more often than not. And it's not particularly organized, through supernatural means or otherwise.

They make do, but it's a difficult life.

Ah . . . I can imagine. I'm glad they do it, though. Someone needs to keep us in check, and the gods are useless when it comes to that.

[angelofthevored]

I'll agree with that. [Sometimes gods are even the source of it. His God in particular...maybe that's what his father wanted, but Cas doesn't know if he'll ever get over it.] And too many other species are quick to dismiss humans and other mortals because of their limited lifespans. It's truly unfortunate.

Mmm . . . it's a problem I encounter often. But I can't fault them completely - it's in their nature to think like that. [that doesn't mean she won't put them down if she has to, but she can understand it to an extent] Still . . . unfortunate.

[Yeah, Cas gets that too. All the times he's tried to separate himself from his siblings and he goes crawling back, every time. He can't talk about it with the Winchesters because they've been victimized by his family countless times, so...]
