Waystation Mingle Log!

Who: GAME-WIDE MINGLE aka everyone
Broadcast: If you want
Action: The Stations!
When: From 04/05 through the month of April.

[Well, that all sure happened. But at least you have the waystations! Whether you want to stock up on supplies, work, trade, or visit the very fancy Virtual Reality Dome, it's bound to be a nice break from the attacks of the 5th.

Make your own prompts, set up your own Virtual Realities, etc! For reference, the OOC post with info is over here!]

I suppose so.

[She smiles, more genuine this time around.]

And at least I'm not alone.
ino: (Cheerful.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! Everything's better with friends, after all.

[ She's poking at some kind of control panel now ]

So this is where you work, huh ...
dancingmd: (puck)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Her smile widens.]

Well, I'm not always in the captain's chair... yet.

[She uncurls herself of the chair and stands.]

Would you like to see my sickbay?
ino: (Mischievous.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno ... it might make me pretty sad about the state of ours.

[ She's teasing, though, and moves to indicate she'll follow wherever Beverly wants to go ]
dancingmd: (i'm here to steal your girlfriend)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
[She laughs.]

Just remember that not even all ships in my universe look like this. In fact, few of them do. Computer! Transfer location to Sickbay.

[As the program rearranges itself, Beverly looks at Ino and explains:]

The Enterprise has 42 decks and is over 640 meters long. This will save us a little time.

ino: (IT'S HUGE)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ ... a bit of a jaw drop ]

That's, like -- the size of a skyscraper!
dancingmd: (smile)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[She grins at the look on Ino's face.]

Ships this size are constructed in space and aren't meant for landing on planets. We have shuttles and transporters for that.

[The sickbay coalesces around them and they find themselves right in Beverly's office, which is a little disconcerting. Nonetheless, Beverly tries to be a cheerful hostess, stepping around behind her desk and spreading her arms out.]

This is where I spend a lot of my time, doing the very unexciting job of paperwork. I much prefer to be in the research lab, though.

ino: (I don't get it.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that makes sense ...

[ Still, she's still kind of awestruck ... She wishes their ships were even two stories ...

Anyways, she's looking around curiously ]

There must be a lot of people living here if it's that big ... so you must be pretty busy, huh?
dancingmd: (listening)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
About a thousand people live here at any given time, though we can hold much more than that in an emergency. But I have plenty of help! Several other physicians are on board as well as nurses.

[A flicker of sadness returns when she's reminded of Alyssa.]

Here, let me show you the rest of it!

[She leads Ino out of the office and around the corner. A large biobed sits in the middle of the room. Beverly taps a few controls nearby and brings up a glowing stasis field around the bed.]

This is where we do most surgeries. The force field can either serve as a quarantine or keep people in stasis if necessary.
ino: (IT'S HUGE)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She's just. Gaping. At everything. What in the fresh hell is all of this stuff ]

Wow ...

I guess that's helpful to keep everything sterile ...
dancingmd: (card shark)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods eagerly, starting to get excited. She picks up various instruments from around the room and explains their uses.]

This is a medical tricorder, which is a scanning device that will read all your vital signs and help me analyze data and this is a hypospray - no more needles! Ah, this is a dermal regenerator. It will regrow the patient's skin almost instantaneously, which prevents scarring. And this! This is a cortical stimulator which - [She pauses at the look on Ino's face. Sheepishly, she says:] I'm sorry, this is probably a lot to take in at once.
ino: (Giggle.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She laughs ]

It's okay! I mean -- it is, but it's awesome. Our hospitals at home are nothing like this.

[ She gestures to the last one she's got in her hand ]

Cortical stimulator? Probably ... helps with bone growth, right?

[ Seems like an educated guess, based on the name, anyways ... ]
dancingmd: (smile)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Not quite! You'd need the [A pause as she hunts down the appropriate tool, and holds it up for Ino to inspect] osteogenic stimulator for that. It was a good guess though! The cortical stimulator is used for reviving a patient's neural activity.
ino: (Boo you whore.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeez ... This stuff sure would make it easier for the lab support, that's for sure.

[ Like poor Tadashi ... ]

I mean, I can take care of the majority of that stuff for my crew, but for the lab support that doesn't have powers or healing magic ...
dancingmd: (coffee and croissants)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You're telling me. I learned long ago how to make do without modern technology during... a disaster on a planet I was living on at the time, but still [she looks longingly at the osteogenic stimulator in her hand] it would make things a lot easier on all of us.

It's particularly frustrating because I am certain the people who have brought us here have technology equivilent to or perhaps even better than this, but they're withholding it for entertainment's sake.
ino: (Bored/talking.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She picks up one of the tools Beverly had already pointed out, turning it over curiously in her hand ]

You think this thing would show the insides of these tools? Like, could one of our engineers come in here and take it apart and learn how to replicate it?
dancingmd: (chinhands)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see why not. The computer is limited by whatever the programmer tells it, but since I know all these tools inside and out it wouldn't be a problem for me to recreate them virtually. Now, I probably wouldn't be able to replicate the inner workings of the stasis field, nor would I be able to program the of the warp engines or the teleporters or anything like that beyond a superficial level.

Hiro should be meeting me here later, I'll talk to him about it.
ino: (Hint hint wink wink nudge nudge~)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She clasps her hands together excitedly ]

Oh, perfect! I hate to throw more work on him, but -- his brother is one of the people who could really use these ...

[ Tucks her hair behind her ear. Totally not thinking about how happy Tadashi would be if he could make them or use them .. ]
dancingmd: (smile)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Beverly is all too familiar with that look, Ino. But don't worry, she won't say anything. Not yet anyway.]

Oh, I'd be helping him, don't worry! Frankly, I need more projects to work on.
ino: (Boo you whore.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That'd be great. Thanks, Dr. Crusher. It's already a struggle making sure the two of them take a break to eat something, so ...
dancingmd: (coffee and croissants)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-09 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Raising one eyebrow] Bring them to the Blue Fish, Sokka will make sure they get fed.
ino: (Complaining.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-09 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not that they don't have food. I've brought them plenty. It's just getting them to put down the wrench and pick up the food.
dancingmd: (i'm here to steal your girlfriend)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-10 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
[She sighs.]

I know how that goes. Wesley would do the same thing... he'd get so focused on a particular project, it was as if nothing else existed.
ino: (Yeah whatever.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-10 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ She blows a puff of air at her bangs ]

Boys ...
dancingmd: (listening)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2015-04-10 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[She leans in and pseudo-whispers, as if sharing a big secret with Ino.]

I hate to break it to you, some of them never grow out of it.
