Hi, so, I'm going to need you to go ahead and let me out of here and return me to my ship. I mean, we could do this the long way, but you really, really won't like that. It will be long. And painful. Possibly over days. The thing I'm going to assume you didn't realize about me before you decided to make this incredibly idiotic move is that I don't take kindly to cages. They're not really my thing, and I have a particular prejudice against the people who want to put me in them.

But hey.

[ She puts her hands up in a conciliatory manner ]

Maybe I'm reading this entire situation the wrong way. Just come and get me, we'll talk, and I won't even break your fingers for it. Promise.

[ She rolls her eyes, sighs, and switches off the camera ]

So, I take it there's no ship AI?

That sounds like a real bummer.

I was thinking more like Gideon, the Waverider's AI. She's more like a disembodied person.

Sassy wardens who always wanted you to know they were better than us organics was not my favorite. But I've known AIs who were cool. [Thinking of the android variety like Data and Vision. Not that Vision isn't a little more complicated.]

They sound obnoxious regardless of artificiality.

A little bit. I mean it's bad enough to be in a prison. Is the taunting necessary?

Oh, definitely both but that one was also prison themed. I mean, it wasn't full of cells and guards or anything. Their thing was taking you out of your timeline so you wouldn't commit more crimes there, but they were happy for you to have a pleasant stay.

Yeah. I'm not the only one who's had that experience. My friend, Chekov, was with me in Marina and he'd been in a place they just called The City before that.

How sure are we that this isn't some sort of human trafficking network?

Well, they did tell us we were being used as entertainment and they are moving us around so it is in a way. Except for some of us not being human.

Person trafficking. You know what I mean.

I know, I know. If there's more to it than this they are taking their sweet time getting there.

Is there any part of this that doesn't just abjectly suck?

The company. [Which may sound like a good line, but she means it sincerely for a lot of the fleet.]

I just like to have a little more of a specific mission than play nice with others. I'm great at making friends.

Mm, get a weapon you're comfortable with. Get some spare clothes unless you're into the jumpsuit look. Gather intel on the place. There are little missions.

Sure, but it's like taking a bunch of classes without choosing a major.

And I definitely dropped out of college.

Well, what was your major before the drop?

Rum and coke, with a minor in stealing your sister's boyfriend?

Good thing I'm an only child. Hell of a thing to drop out on. Was the boyfriend worth it?

Not an easy thing to answer. But we've both grown a lot since then.
