OTA
She leaves the ship regularly, though, both for her job at the Melting Pot and to garden. You can catch her coming or going or, on rare occasion, in the lounge, tuning her shamisen.
...or one fine day, sitting in a corner of the cargo bay and cleaning the last traces of blood from her three-section pike. You know, as you do. Sparring is an interesting business when you face off against an immortal.]

Only if I have an audience.
[She likes the lounge.]

And then she begins to play, head bowed over her work. You've got to excuse her. Just like Makie, all her songs are beautiful, but terribly melancholy.
(...unless she's playing Fleetwood Mac. That happens sometimes.)]
no subject
That was beautiful. [She says after one of the haunting tunes ends.] How did you learn to play?
no subject
...she'd be up for it.]
When I was very young, my mother taught me. Then I learned myself. It's always an art I've enjoyed.
[Makes her feel peaceful.]
no subject
Is there anything you can't do? [It's impressive to see her skill in both fighting and music.]
no subject
[She's hyper trained! In... fighting and music.
...and sex work, but we don't talk about that.]
no subject
Pausing at the entrance of the cargo bay to assess the situation, he continued in to search through their storage.] Bonjour Makie, seems ya been havin' an 'nterestin' day.
no subject
It's only traces of blood by now, of course; she's just meticulous at looking after her stuff. At the bonjour she looks up, blinking slowly at Remy as she processes his unfamiliar words.]
Not particularly. [An immortal gave her sass while asking her for sword practice. Inevitable things happened!] May I ask what bonjour means?
no subject
And that also gave pause for Remy. Did... she often go around stabbing people or whatever she did to have to clean up her weapon like that? Huh.]
Oh, ah, it means 'hello' in French.
no subject
If it helps, she doesn't stab people much at all anymore. But it doesn't really count for her as interesting, by her definition.]
Ah. Hello, then. Is that... [Hmm. She's not that familiar with other languages except a little Dutch.] European?

no subject
I see. If you did not learn it from France, where did you? If you don't mind my asking. [She's curious.]

I didn't have much exposure to other languages in my own time. It has an interesting cadence to it. Do you know the full language, or just portions?

Mikumo spends a lot of her time when she's not on the bridge or the other ships in the lounge. It has the best view of space and reminds her a great deal of some of the better parts of being back home. As such, it's the lounge where she does the most of her singing.
And she's not a quiet woman, so her voice is strong, pure, and rings through the entire area easily. She doesn't notice anyone else until the strumming of strings cuts through.]
I suppose you're ready for that discussion about a collaboration now, hm?
no subject
If there's already a singing presence in here, Makie isn't particularly trying to draw attention or interrupt such a lovely voice. But she's not too upset that she fails, either. She stills the strings, though still bent over them, speaking pleasantly.]
It is music. I'm always ready to discuss music.
no subject
It doesn't take much for Mikumo to notice the sound of music, no matter where it comes from, especially in between songs. It's as good a time to take a break as any in her mind. Even she can't sing all the time, you know.]
Do you play any other instruments than the shamisen? [It's just such a strange choice in Mikumo's time, not that it's not beautiful.]
no subject
In my time, the shamisen is a popular choice for daughters of samurai households. [It's considered elegant, making yourself look good, all that jazz.] Most instruments I have been introduced to since then are not ones I would be familiar with from home.
no subject
[With Walküre's performance schedule, however, live concerts happened a lot.]
Samurai households. [Yep, ancient Japan on Earth. It's just a strange thought.] Did you belong to one of them?
no subject
[Oddly, it's history that doesn't hurt much anymore. Death and long term space drifting tends to put things in perspective.]
no subject
[She's never had a family. And it's not like she has much of a realistic look at that time on Earth. Especially since life there after 1999 was drastically different from when Makie was alive.]
no subject
[If she'd never been thrown out, she'd probably have been an entirely different person.]
