NETWORK BROADCAST ▹ VIDEO;

[ Jim's staring seriously at the camera as the broadcast begins, concern visible on his features. He might be easily recognizable to most everyone on the Fleet, but as soon as he starts talking, it will become obvious that he is not the same man, or at least not having the very same memories. Not of this place, that's for sure. ]

My name is James T. Kirk. I'm... not entirely sure how I got here, but for what it's worth, I'm one of the new arrivals.

[ He presses his lips, glancing around. ] This isn't the first time I've been brought to a universe other than my own, but I was wondering if anyone else here has had a similar experience. Coming here from a place that's not your reality of origin.

[ A pause, ] Specifically, has anyone here heard of Riverview, or the Quarantine?

[ He can't help a hopeful look. A familiar face, any familiar face, will be welcome. He's looking for a specific one, admittedly, but he's not holding his breath on that one. ]

ACTION ▹ SS RED FISH

[ Once he makes that broadcast, he'll be exploring his new location, so he knows what he's dealing with. He can be found roaming the ship, poking his head into all the nooks and corners, and possibly trying to sneak his way into off-limits locations, if there are any. Stop him getting into trouble, or help him? Or just come say hi to a not-quite-new face. ]

She did? [ He smiles a bit more playfully, narrowing his eyes at Victor. ] Keeping secrets from me now, are you?

[ He knows it's not a secret, so much as a surprise. His interest is definitely piqued now, and he steps further into the sick bay, also looking around when Victor checks if there's anyone else around. Then he looks back to him, eyebrow raising. ]

Okay, you've got my full attention. Stop teasing now, what is it?

No, just waiting for the right time. I planned to do this on the last night of the haunted house, but... well, we ended up here. So...

[He clears his throat, taking James by the hand. Somehow, he's not nervous at all. He's been thinking this out in his head for weeks]

I lived in a town full of people who found true love, but that was never part of my story. Until you came along. You're the single most amazing person I've ever known, and knowing you has been the best adventure.

Just by being here, we've proven that space, time, even other worlds aren't enough to keep us apart. And I have a feeling we'll keep finding ways to be together.

[He takes out the box, opening it to show James the candy ring. It was Lucy's idea. There's an actual ring in the box as well. And just in case James still doesn't know where Victor is going with this, he gets on one knee]

Will you marry me?

[ Jim knows there's supposed to be a speech. Usually, that's how these things go in romance novels and movies, at least. Still, his brain doesn't quite process what is happening, not until Victor holds out a box and opens it for him.

And even still, he's a little slow on the uptake. He sucks in a breath at the sight of the ring, but he's frozen to the spot, as though he doesn't know what to say to that.

It takes Victor going down on one knee to snap him out of it. ]

Victor... [ He looks up from the box and to the man's face. His eyes are wide, and his heart's beating so fast Jim can practically feel his head about to burst from the sound. ] You're serious?

[ Not that he hadn't thought about it. As a matter of fact, it had been on his mind often since he'd gotten Victor that ring, but he had decided then to leave it up to Victor to take that step. ]

I mean– yes! Yes, of course! [ He laughs, taking the box from Victor's hand without thought. He immediately gives it back, offering his left hand for Victor to take. ] Put it on me.

[Victor can be romantic from time to time, especially when it's something important. Proposing to James is something he's been thinking about for a while and he wanted it to be good.

Judging by the way James reacts, it went very well. He can't help but laugh at James snatching the box away only to give it right back. Victor takes out the real ring and slips it on James's finger. He made sure to get the other's ring size, so it fits perfectly]

I asked Lucy to help me pick out the ring, and she told me to get you the candy one. Then I saw this one that looked a little like your Starfleet symbol, and I had to get it, too.

[ Jim is fully aware of just how romantic Victor can be, so that much isn't a surprise. If anything he is surprised that Victor did this immediately after he arrived, but then again, if he was planning on doing it just before they got brought here, he supposes it makes sense.

Not that he cares about details. His heart is leaping in pure happiness that Victor actually asked, and that's all he cares about. ]

Oh, so you mean the candy one is the official ring? [ He teases, but still runs his thumb over the ring on his finger, smiling softly. ] It's perfect, Victor. You're perfect.

It is a much bigger-looking stone than the other one. And it's supposed to turn your tongue blue.

[He smiles, leaning in to kiss James's forehead and then his mouth] When I showed up here, I knew I had to ask you when you arrived. I didn't want to wait another minute.

[ He snorts and chuckles at that, grinning at Victor. ]

Really? Hm... gotta put that to the test now.

[ He picks up the other ring and sucks it into his mouth, letting out a hum. It tastes sweet, but that’s about it in terms of flavor. He sucks it out of his mouth, then sticks his tongue out at Victor. ]

So?

[Victor shakes his head in amusement]

You know I can't see colors without my glasses, babe. I guess I should get to work on making a new pair, huh?

[ He shrugs, holding the candy ring out for Victor to get a taste too. ]

You can still see if it's darker, though.

[He takes a few licks. It tastes pretty good! And then sticks his own tongue out]

Mmm, it does look a little darker. How about mine?

[ Jim chuckles a bit despite himself when Victor sticks his tongue out. ]

Definitely very blue.

[ He leans in and drags his tongue across Victor's playfully. ]

[He pulls James in for an actual kiss]

I made sure that candy ring was blue, by the way. It's gotten to be my favorite color.

[Because it's the same color as James's eyes, of course]

Glad to hear you say so...

[ Jim giggles against Victor's lips, nibbling lightly at the lower one. His fingers weave through the doctor's hair, nails dragging gently down to his nape. ]

We'll definitely have to do something about this. [ The dark hair, he means. He loves Victor no matter what, but he much prefers lighter hair on the doctor. ]

[He lets out a sigh of contentment at the fingers in his hair]

Hm, not into the Gomez Addams look anymore? I could just buzz it off.

[He says teasingly]

[ Victor is joking, he knows, but Jim actually ponders that for a moment, while he slides his fingers through Victor’s hair. ]

Actually... yeah, you could do that. It’ll take what, two or three months for it to grow back? And I’d like to see how you’d look.

Really? You wouldn't miss playing with it? [Truthfully, he would miss the petting] Yeah, all right. I'll find a barber to buzz it off. I wore it that way once, when Henry was a baby.

I would, but... it'd grow back pretty quickly, so I wouldn't miss it for long.

[ Seems like the easiest way to get rid of the darker color, anyway. And Jim is kind of curious to see what it'd feel like to touch it when it's really short. ]

I'll look around too. If we can't find one, we'll just work something out. [ He shrugs. ] But if you don't want to do it, that's fine too, you know?

Oh, no, I'm definitely doing it. I'll find a way to buzz it off, don't worry.

Great. [ Jim grins, already picturing Victor with a buzz cut. In the meantime, however, there is one thing worth mentioning. ]

Oh, did you know there's another me around here? I haven't met him yet, but I've been told we're identical.

I know. I've spoken with him already. [He sighs, twining their fingers together] At least Dr. Murry had a beard.

[ Jim can't help laugh at that. He hadn't even thought of him, damn. ]

I don't think you'll convince this other me to grow a beard, unfortunately. [ He quirks an eyebrow, teasing. ] Guess I could cut my own hair short, too.

I think you'd look good with a buzz cut, but I can't really imagine you doing that to yourself. [He tugged on James's hair] You'd miss this.

[ He purrs, head tilting back as he shifts closer and presses himself up against Victor. ] Mm... yeah, you're right. I would miss that.

[He smiles, petting through James's hair] Want to take a walk with me around the ship and show off your new ring? That's what newly engaged people do, right?

I wouldn't know. As a newly engaged person, all I wanna do is drag you off to your room and show you just how happy this ring makes me... but I guess I can hold off on that for a while.

[ He winks teasingly at Victor, leaving that up in the air as a promise. ]
