Sweet dreams are made of these...
( for A-M characters )
Before you post your topcomment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names comment here, and N-Z names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your topcomment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.
Scenario 1
[She doesn't recognize the stranger wielding the sword and sporting the long, black coat. But, he seemed to be in trouble, and that was enough motivation for Wanda to decide to back him up. However, she is only able to take a few steps before his shouts cause her to stop in her tracks.]
[Was he protecting her? And what did he mean by "get equipped?" This pause is enough time though for Wanda to notice the odd-looking white screen floating the air. She quickly debates ignoring it and jumping in to help the black-coated stranger; however, something tells her that it would actually be more helpful to check it out. She needs to move quick though, so she sprints over to the window, quickly scanning the screen for anything that might appear immediately helpful.]
[She hits the "items" button, spies what appears to be a sword icon, hits it, then selects the "equip" option. However, nothing appears to happen, at least... not for her anyways.]

Items/Equipment:
-Healing Potions (Restores the user to full HP.)
-a sword, Lambent Light (A one-handed rapier. Crafted by {Player} {Lisbeth}.)
-a sword, Dark Repulser(A one-handed long sword. Crafted by {Player} {Lisbeth}.)
-Teleportation Crystal (Transports the user to the nearest safe zone.)
-A message crystal, entitled, From Sachi ({Player} Private Message)
-an accessory, Red Bandanna (A simple bandanna. +1 defense.)
Upon Wanda's selection of the first sword on the list, Lambent Light, an intricately-decorated white rapier appears in front of her for a split second before the scene abruptly fades into darkness. Light glimmers briefly, like a torch in the shadows, and that small light suddenly becomes a brightly burning sun in the sky. The monster is gone, and instead of a dark dungeon-like area, a vast grassy field opens up around them.
Kirito is lying on the grass under the shade of a tree, dozing quietly. A wide stone fence blocks off the road, giving him something of a secluded space in which to relax. This doesn't seem to stop a beautiful long-haired girl from marching over to him, hands on her hips.
"What are you doing?"
Kirito opens his eyes, finding her standing over him, then closes them again as if her anger doesn't bother him at all. "Oh, hey. What's up."
"Everyone in the assault team's working their butts off to clear the dungeon. And where do I find you? Out here. Taking a nap. Even if you're a solo player, you should take this more-"
He cuts her off abruptly, still not looking at her. "Bet you didn't know this is Aincrad's nicest season. Today's weather is at its optimal setting. It'd be a waste to have to go to work on a day like this."
"Huh?" The girl looks up in surprise, but it's short-lived; almost immediately, she's irritated again. "Whatever. I can't believe you! Do you even understand what's going on? Every day here is another one lost in the real world."
Kirito shrugs. "Yeah, but right now, we're not in the real world, are we? We're alive in Aincrad." Once again, the girl is surprised. Around them, the wind blows peacefully over the grass, rustling the leaves in the trees. The sound is incredibly relaxing. "See? Doesn't that breeze feel good? And the sun..."
"Oh, come on. The weather's always the same here."
Kirito yawns, arms lifting into a wide stretch above his head, his voice lethargic. "If you laid down on the grass for a little bit, you'd understand."
He falls silent, seeming to doze off again as the girl glances around them, taking in the scenery. She watches the boy, confused and curious. After a long moment, considering his words, she lies down on the grass next to him and closes her eyes.]

[Her attention is turned away from the scenic field when she hears the angry sound of an orange haired girl. She appears to know the black cloaked boy from earlier, now lying down on the grass. Wanda isn't quite able to keep up with their conversation though. Aincrad? Optimal setting? Real world? Clearing dungeons? It didn't make much sense to her, but she was able to guess that Aincrad likely referred to the place they were currently located. And "clearing dungeons" likely had something to do with that initial scene she had entered in on.]
[What exactly this had to do with the "real world," she didn't quite understand, but it seemed like these two--the girl and the boy--were not originally from this Aincrad place. Nonetheless, the boy didn't seem troubled by this fact, if anything he seemed to be enjoying himself. When the girl lies down next to him, Wanda turns away from the two and looks back over the surrounding landscape. She doesn't lie down herself, but she does sit down, crossing her legs. She closes her eyes, breathes in deep and just lets herself feel the warmth of the sun complimented by the cool breeze.]

Whoa! Uh, hi. Enjoying yourself?
no subject
Yes, it is very beautiful here.
no subject
Yeah... this was always the best place to take a nap. There were no monsters, and the road over there had regular guards patrolling the area. The chance of getting killed by another player was pretty low.
no subject
What does that mean "getting killed by another player?"

All this is a game? What then is the point? How does one win?
no subject
The way to win was to defeat the final boss on the 100th floor. Those were the conditions told to us on the first day.

[Wanda looks about, trying to locate a staircase of some kind. However, a cursory sweep shows no such means of climbing between floors. Naturally, this does little to alleviate Wanda's confusion.]
What floor is this then?
no subject
no subject
So that means there are 41 floors still to climb, yes? Is it really so hard to reach this 100th floor?

[Wanda can't help but sound incredulous. She can't think of any kind of game she'd enjoy playing for that long a period of time.]
no subject
[He knows it's unreasonable, but hey, it's not like he picked it.]

[Wanda repeats the amount to herself. She is somewhat confused. She can't understand why someone would play a game for so long. Sure, the scenery around her was beautiful, but...]
This game kept you interested in playing for that long? You must have gotten bored of it at some point?
[You might have to break this down to her a little more Kirito.]

Leaning in, he taps the menu he wants her to see. There are two selections - "Option" and "Help" - and a third, unlabeled box with only an arrow icon showing.]
See that last option? That's the log-out button, and it doesn't work. Right from the first day it came out, once we entered into this world, there was no way to leave.
[He gives the button a couple experimental taps, but of course nothing happens.]
We didn't keep playing because it was interesting. We kept playing because the game wouldn't let us stop.
no subject
"Log out..." You can't leave? How is that even possible? I mean, how did you get here exactly? How did you start the game?
[Back where Wanda's from video games definitely were not this sophisticated. The only one's she can think of require a controller and TV screen.]
no subject
Let's see... every user has a helmet, called Nerve Gear. Once activated, it interrupts the signals sent by your brain to your body, and sends those signals directly to the in-game avatar- er, a digital body in this world. So when I think about moving my hand, instead of my real hand, the one on this body moves.
[He lifts an arm and flexes his fingers a few times, to demonstrate.]
Problem is, once the helmet is on, you can't just direct your body to pull it off. You'd just start doing this in-game.
[He switches the gesture to pretend he's pulling an invisible helmet off of his head.]
So the log-out button is crucial to escaping here. Make sense?
no subject
[She's definitely starting to get the picture now... and she doesn't like it.]
That seems like a large safety oversight.
no subject
It was. The equipment was recalled and discontinued as soon as the incident occurred. Competitors came up with safe alternatives that could be used without risk of getting killed or trapped in virtual reality. Not that it helped those of us who were stuck here already.
no subject
[Wanda can't help but sound incredulous about the whole thing. As she was understanding it, the whole affair seemed incredibly reckless and stupid. The risks just to play a video game... they seemed much to high for some form of virtual entertainment.]
no subject
[That it would be used in that way... did that thought really never occur to anyone? Or maybe, like him, were they too busy wishing to live in that world that no one considered it all going so wrong?]
Nothing went as planned.
no subject
[Then a disturbing thought occurs to Wanda. She looks a little panicked, lifting her hands up to her head, trying to feel about for something not seen on her head.]
If we are here now, does that mean we are wearing-
