[Steven has some very mixed feelings about waking up in outer space. On one hand, it's space! He's so excited to be in outer space!

But that is dampened a bit by the conflicting feeling. The last time he was being taken to space, he was being captured and it was a Very Bad Thing.

The tiny child paces around uncertainly, trying to look for any sign of friend or foe. At least he doesn't seem to be in a prison cell this time. Maybe this isn't so bad?

When he finds the video feed, he'll prod at it uncertainly, while trying to be brave.]

Hey! Is anyone there?

Um... This is a nice spaceship! I really like it, and I always wanted to go on a space adventure. But I have important things going on back home, so it would be nice to save the space vacation for later!

[Then he frets a little more and looks around uncertainly.]

Un-unless I'm here 'cuz you're one of the guys that wants to do bad things on Earth. If that's it, then... Can we please just talk?

Hi, Steven! [ she chuckles, buoyed by his cheering. ] I'm glad you're feeling better. It's actually really nice up here!

Thanks! You know, it does seem really nice up here.

[Then he gives the telltale smirk of an incoming joke.]

In fact, wouldn't you say that it's the star attraction?

[ a thoughtful pause. ]

[ and then she snorts with laughter. ]

Why, yes, yes it is! Oh, oh, oh - you might even say it's out of this world!

[She's got jokes!! Yes! Steven giggles right back, not even recalling the one time in the past that he used that exact same pun.]

That's right! And it's not even cramped up here. I guess you could also say that there's plenty of space to spare!

[ that gets another loud laugh from her. ]

You might even say it's a real gas! [ jokes she knows because of her implant, thanks atroma. ]

[Steven snorts as he laughs some more.]

Right. I galax-see your point!

Heh, you're good with jokes!

[ still laughing: ] So are you! Those are some of the best jokes I've ever heard!

[ granted, mother gothel didn't have a great sense of humor. but hey, she's met funny people here, and his jokes are still top notch in her opinion! ]

[Now he looks bashful. She really gets his sense of humor! He's proud to entertain.]

Thanks, I tried my best! My name's Steven, by the way. Steven Universe!

[He blinks for a moment before he adds on.]

...And that really is my name, I swear! It's not part of the joke.

[ it's a good thing he added that disclaimer, or she very well may have thought it was yet another joke. ]

That's the perfect name for someone on a space adventure! My name is Rapunzel. It's nice to meet you, Steven! Welcome to the Fleet!

[He knew it was a considerate thing to do!]

Thanks! I'm glad I have a matching name.

Rapunzel... Like the fairy tale? That's one of my favorites! It's nice to meet you too, Rapunzel! I don't know a lot about what's going on, but at least I can say I made a great new friend today!

[ she's heard this fairy tale thing before...it's very puzzling. but she supposes it's sort of flattering to share the name of a story book character! ]

You - you really mean it? We can be friends? [ her voice brims with exuberance. to have someone become her friend so quickly...it's a dream come true. ]

Yup, of course we can. Why not?

[Aw. He wonders if she's not used to having friends, like Connie.]

[ the fullest of smiles. ]

I-I'm just - well, I didn't have many friends before I got here, that's all! It's so nice to be able to have them.

You didn't? Well I bet lots and lots of people want to be your friend! Who wouldn't want to have a really nice and pretty friend with lots and lots of hair?

[Then he starts to break into song.]

Rapunzel, Rapunzel!
Being friends with you will be Rafunzel!
Running and laughing our way the hall.
Knowing each other, it's gonna be a ball!
But how could all of this beee?

[A beat, then he finishes.]

You're just the super great friend for me!

[And he ends on jazz hands!]

[ when he finishes his song, she claps with all the enthusiasm in the world. ]

Oh, Steven, that was wonderful! You're great at singing songs! We should sing one together sometime!

[ maybe they could even find a few more friends to start a little singing and instrument-playing group! ]

[Such applause and praise! Now Steven is looking bashful about it.]

Aw, it was just a little jam! But, thanks a lot, Rapunzel! I'd be glad to sing with you sometime. I sing songs with lots of my friends. It's lots of fun!

[It only makes sense to band together in a situation like this.]

You're very talented! I can't wait to sing something with you. Plus, singing is a great way to make even more friends! [ this is how she made like 95% of her friends back home. and they were thugs, to boot! that's the power of song. ]

Great idea! We'll do a very special friendship jam sometime. I bet we'll make friends with the whole entire fleet that way! Then they'll have to call us... the Friendship Fleet!!

[ FRIENDSHIP JAM SESSIONS, COULD THERE BE ANYTHING BETTER. ]

That's the perfect name! We could even perform concerts at the planets we visit!

[Just throw in some friendship jelly.]

Wow! Whole space concerts? I didn't even think of that... That would be so awesome, Rapunzel! I can't wait! Dad's gonna love this!

[But then he pauses, blinks and his smile dies a little.]

I- I mean... He would, if he was here in space too...

[ oh no, did she say something wrong? he didn't mean to bring up something that would make him sad by reminding him of someone who isn't here! but she knows the feeling. ]

I'm sorry, Steven. I'm...I'm missing someone from home, too. B-but new people show up all the time, so maybe he'll make it in time for our first space concert!

It's okay. I'm the one who's sorry... for reminding you of missing someone.

[He keeps a light smile on as he addresses her.]

You're right. I hear that anything's possible in outer space! I'm gonna put my hopes on everyone coming to the space concert. Maybe they'll come in riding a shooting star!

That would be perfect! Especially if they got there just in time for the big finale! Our final number could be called...

[ pause for DRAMATIC EFFECT ]

I like the way you think, Rapunzel! We'll work hard to make it the biggest finale it can be. But I know in my heart that we're gonna make all kinds of great music together!
