When We're Rollin Through the Wild Wild West
Who: Everyone! EVERYONE!
Broadcast: IF YOU WANNA
Action: Everywhere! EVERYWHERE!
When: Mid-September - Mid-October
[How's your ship doing, pardners? Is it still pretty damaged? Is it glitching out hardcore? Well, there is one place to land to take care of all that, and that's on a dusty old moon in front of a planet that no one wants to go to. On this moon, you'll find a civilization that looks a lot like one's stepped into a wild west movie, hardened cowpolk and mutant horses and all. Will you become a vigilante, hunting bounties and stopping gangs from doing their dirty work? Will you go exploring planetside, with a cowboy hat and a stalk of wheat in your mouth to complete the look? Good luck with that; there is no wheat. This town ain't big enough for all you flooters, but make it so! For the ratings!
In other words, it's a planet mingle! Get 'er done!]

[ watch yourself, Bev, you're going to end up being the mother she wishes she had ]
I'm pretty okay at assisting too, if you need it.
no subject
I might. It's hard to predict what we'll find at the next house. Some of my cases have been relatively simple issues that I can attend to easily, but other times... well, they don't have many resources here. We'll do what we can though.

[ okay with shadowing her, though, really ]
no subject
I don't know if we'll need this, but, here, just in case.

Better safe than sorry?

[She pulls on her own gloves and hangs the mask around her neck, not pulling it up quite yet. People are not usually comforted by the sight of a masked person showing up on their doorstep, however well intentioned they are.]
Though it's just as much for their safety as ours, maybe more so.

I wish Prim were here. She'd love this.

I wish I could meet her. She sounds like a wonderful young lady.

[Then she turns and knocks on the front door. It's a long moment before anyone answers, but finally, a haggard-looking woman, about Beverly's age, with her hair up in a messy bun and her apron covered with food stains. She looks at the pair of them with some suspicion as she asks, "You the doctor?"]
Yes, ma'am. I'm Dr. Crusher, and this is my assistant, Nova.
((ooc: feel free to control some of the npc stuff as well, i don't mind!))

((ooc: i'm terribly uncreative about these things so if you have a direction you want to go, feel free!!))

Mae is laying in one corner of the cabin, on an old, but clean, mattress. She looks to be only about ten or eleven years old. Beverly approaches Mae slowly, then kneels next to the bed. The girl stares wide-eyed, but doesn't shy away from either Beverly or Nova.]
Hello, Mae. I'm Dr. Crusher, and this is Nova. We're here to help, okay? Your mama says you've been coughing a lot, is that right?
[Mae nods silently, still staring. Beverly turns to Nova.]
Can you prop her up, get her more comfortable, while I get my medkit ready?

This is called a tricorder. A scanner. Do you know what that is?
[Mae looks uncertainly up at her mother before shaking her head solemnly.]
It'll tell me why you're feeling sick, so then I know how to make you feel better.
[She looks at Nova.]
Would you mind giving a little demonstration?
no subject
no subject
There! Totally painless, right? And see, you can see your heartbeat and everything!
[Okay, now Mae is looking more interested, less scared. She just needs a little more reassurance.]
no subject
Not painful at all. If you want I can hold your hand.
no subject
Acute bronchitis.
[While she doesn't sound exactly relieved by the diagnosis, she is glad they have the resources to handle this and that it's not a chronic condition.]
no subject
See? That wasn't so bad. And now we can figure out how to make you feel better.
no subject
[She turns to Nova.]
Stay with her? And if you could boil some water as well, I'm going to talk to her mother, okay? I'll be back in a minute.
no subject
[ ruffles Mae's hair and starts over to do that ]
no subject
The dryness of the air here is making her bronchitis worse, so we're going to try giving her a small steam bath. If it makes her feel better, that's something they can do even after we're gone. Of course, I'll leave medicine with them as well. It shouldn't be something that will last more than a week or so.
no subject
Good, I'm glad it's nothing too bad.
