Gumball Wishes and Taxicab Dreams

[On today's episode of the Drift Fleet:

The cargo holds are full of mysterious crates! The crews are filling beyond capacity with new faces! Official alerts are informing the passengers that they are signed to contracts that they've never agreed to! They are docking at the dazzling FS Starlight, but are flat broke!

What are they going to do!? Stay tuned to find out!

...Meaning, this is a kickoff mingle for you all to enjoy the beginning of the latest plot setting. This is a convenient place to start threads relating to the first week of the event-- meeting new crewmembers, reacting to the mysterious cargo, arriving on the station and discovering that you're all broke, etc.

[She lets out the most dramatic of groans, falling sideways in her chair.]

Really? Now? I was totally gonna buy new clothes here, too. I've been wearing one sweater for months.

Isn't it, though?

[Alex smiles, and reaches into the hat again. Out comes... another rabbit, but this one seems to be quacking like a duck. Oops.]

[Alex smiles, a bit mischievous, but mostly genuine. He immediately reminded her of Clay, which is why she picked him.]

Just stand there for a second. I'm gonna make you fly.

[It's the elusive co-pilot!]

Then you get points for creativity, but I'll still have to zap you.

[She looks back over with absolutely no subtlety, and nods.]

Yeah. He's trying to play it cool. Looks like a total dork.

[Allen meanwhile just groans and pinches the bridge of his nose. Don't give the crazy guy attention guys come on what did he say]

Not robust enough for whatever this idiot decided to do.

[ under his breath, and zuko reaches out to take the tickets back, leafing through them quickly with a frown. he didn't actually look at all the charges, but now that he is... ]

You get paid every week, so you'll have something soon -- not that we can get to anything, with the accounts being frozen.

[ what in the hell is soliciting? ]

[Furiosa has been busy, between making sure rations are evenly distributed with the new crewmember, assuring the crates are themselves no a threat and also not harmed, and then finding work once they arrive at the station only to find their accounts frozen. She hasn't forgotten about her plant (you don't forget about something like that), and so it's relief that one of her cargo jobs has her paired with a very familiar co-pilot and his little green dashboard decor. She smiles softly as she settles into the co-pilot's seat and begins the ship's startup sequence.]

You're looking a lot better.

[Alex just grins at him. She may be a tiny bit intoxicated, but mostly she's just in a good mood. This is her kind of planet, and she's made plenty of cash today from things she probably won't tell her friends about.]

I got new shoes!

[She lifts up one foot to point to the aforementioned shoes. They look like they could independently kill a man.]

[Natasha has to agree with Ino on this one.]

I've seen you in a swimsuit, Beverly. Trust me, it's not too young for you, especially with those legs.

[The look she gives him is pointed. She really liked this jacket too, okay, it was the first item of clothing she bought after arriving in the fleet. Perfect buttery leather and it fit so well. If she can sacrifice a coat for the cause, so can you, dude.]

[But hey, at least it seems to be working; she gets her current target shooed into the building, and after Clay manages to lure his in, there's just the one left, standing there eyeballing both of them.]

Looks like it's gonna--

[Run? Yes. Yes, that's exactly what it's gonna do, flapping its wings and skedaddling off as fast as it can waddle. Natasha breaks left, trying to head it off.]

Circle around the other direction, try and cut it off!

[ After shaking off how overwhelming all of this is -- a new world, this monstrous space station beyond his imagining, technology he can't even begin to fathom -- Sasuke begins to search with renewed purpose for one singular thing: some more decent weaponry. This place is huge but at least the shopping district seems relatively well-organized, getting redirected multiple times during his questioning and ending up in shadier and shadier locations.

Strange, you ask for some razor wire, swords, knives, and explosives and you find the black market oddly quickly. But the prices are exorbitant, to say the least, and he quickly becomes aware that he needs money. A lot of it. ]

[ Maybe you're just minding your business or trying to find some part-time work of your own. It doesn't matter, because you're now a witness to a crime.

Maybe you got bumped into while Sasuke was transporting a bag of illicit materials (the nature of which is up for debate) and you're now about to become involved in a chase scene while you both make a run for it from a group of people who really want that bag. Or you walked by just as he was destroying a vending machine and taking the money out of it. Or you saw him speaking with a shopkeeper while a clone of himself fled the scene with goods to sell underground.

Whatever the case, you are now dragged into it. ]

[ On the legal side of things, maybe you're just innocently walking along at night when he decides to shove a flier at you or your group. It's an advertisement for the club behind him, which depending on the night is probably either some upbeat place with equally dance-y music or it's somewhere that seems less trustworthy with a lot of people wearing leather and chains mingling about the doors.

Not that that matters. He's still going to pressure you to go inside so he gets a boost in payment. ]

[ Wildcard! He'll be just mingling around the station sometimes, checking out various shops, the park, and the datary, as well as occasionally finding a few indoor and outdoor restaurants to visit. Totally flexible. ]

Depends on what Azula wants to do.

[ with another exhalation, watching some teal alien woman tug along her toddling child as they walked down the street. ]

Who are you meeting up with?

[At first it's almost as if Allen doesn't take any notice that Mikleo's there, he's far too distracted by whatever he's seeing. But he'll speak up]

I'm sensing a...large presence of souls- enough for an army. But how is that possible here...?

[He takes a couple steps forward, as if he's trying to get a better look. Except when he does, he suddenly grabs onto his head as the source gets loud enough to start to hear the chattering of thousands of souls]

Nngh-!

[ rei has been wandering around with her winnings from totally swindling the casino, and she's lost in looking at everything when someone bumps into her. she's about to whip around to tell that person to watch it, but when she gets a look at who ran into her, she freezes. ]

-- Sasuke?

[ but her incredulity (and relief, because a familiar face is always a nice thing, usually, maybe, probably not in this case) is soon cut off by the whirr of a siren, and rei blinks before looking at... a bunch of police officers who are racing after them. and have now begun yelling at her.

there's only a moment of blank staring before she whips back around to sasuke, tone accusing. ]

What did you do?! -- run!

[One downside of being invisible is that when you witness a crime, no amount of shouting or waving will change a damn thing about the situation. Not... that Mikleo especially cares that Sasuke is trashing a machine to steal its money (he doesn't even bother trying to call for help, because what is the point) but still. There is a reason this place smells rank with potential malevolence and the reason is right here. Terrible morals. Bad behaviour. Greed. Humans.

So instead of doing anything he's just. Standing behind Sasuke. Arms crossed, watching.

Judging hard.]

[ rei has neatly stacked her winnings into a nice pile ]

I was going to play fairly until they tried to cheat me first.

[ so there ]

Turnabout is fair play.

My senses are going haywire from everyone here.

[ with a slight huff -- so, agreed. nothing but unsavory types, for the most part. but she pauses at haruka's question, and immediately steps aside to make room. ]

Sure, if I can come with you.

[ where're you heading haruka ]

[ He's genuinely more irritated at being slowed down than he is at hearing his name from yet another stranger because it's becoming par for the course, instead cementing his grip on his bag as he too glances back. Not too fully, though, or they might notice that he doesn't have the facial scar he did a moment ago when he purposefully allowed them to see him.

His arm is temporarily restored only through a transformation technique, entirely fake just so he's harder to identify. ]

Who the hell are you supposed to be? [ Asked curtly as he indeed takes off, assuming she can keep up if he's not using his chakra to go faster. ]

[ This is far too easy a crime to commit, really, not even bothering to use an illusion to hide the damage he's done as he turns back-- ]

[Whoa, okay, that's not good. Mikleo tries to follow, but getting closer to the source of the problem only makes his chest hurt. And without Sorey nearby, it feels too risky to approach.

Instinctively he backs up a step, reaching out to grasp Allen's shoulder to try and pull him along.]

This is bad. We should get out of this area...

[Wait, this malevolence... it's familiar.]

[ --what the fuck, why are you just standing right there ]

...

[ -- well, that answers that question, and she immediately takes off. if sasuke doesn't know who she is, then she's not going to transform. she had promised michiru to keep it quiet.

still, that makes this a little more difficult, and that's annoying. without mars, though, rei is still a capable fighter and can run quickly. she keeps up with sasuke pretty easily. ]

You're getting slow in your old age, Sasuke.

[ snippishly. how do you get caught robbing a fucking vending machine, you casual, and her eyes quickly scan the crowd before she spots a side alley. ]

And senile -- how many saw you?
