[ she turns around and glides just a bit closer, lowering her glasses and squinting like so and turns toward him when she gets it ]

[he grins and pulls them out where he hid them]

Geez - do you have a limit of what you can see through? Does anything block it?

[ pulls off her glasses and hands them to him ]

Lead. Just like a regular x-ray machine.

[he sets his own down and takes hers. What will he see if he holds them up to look through?]

Wow. [he pauses, then laughs a little] I'm sorry, I'm just really impressed.

[ probably just that they're dummy lenses— no prescription, and they're heavier than regular glasses ]

[huh. He holds them back out to her, but he blinks at what she says]

[he huffs out a laugh]

I believe you. It'd just taste like - metal and glass to me anyway; taste is the only sense I have that hasn't mutated. [a pause] As far as I know.

Metal, glass, and brain damage? Judging by how much they have to advertise against lead paint you'd think it tastes great.

Lead paint? [he looks blank for a moment] —oh! Oh, right, yes, that was banned in the last few years. Er, for me.

When my parents sent me to protect my cousin, his capsule stayed on course and landed when it was supposed to. Lucky, for an infant.

I got waylaid by 20 years in a place called the Phantom Zone, which is like... space stasis. I went into it as a 12 year old and I came out of it as a 12 year old. My cousin was 20. So much for looking after him.

Geez . . . [he sounds amazed and sympathetic at the same time. What is space, wow]

So . . . he ended up being the one to look after you?

He found me a great family who miraculously was willing to take on the task of raising an alien teenager and popped in from time to time.

He inspired me to become a superhero, Supergirl. He goes by Superman. It's all a little on the nose, but there's only so much control you can have over your image.

I mean, I'm not sure it's what our parents expected, but he was found by an incredible family in Kansas. Somehow they raised him up right.

Bad? It's amazing. I love helping people and being myself. I still have the secret identity thing going on for my day job, and to protect my friends and family, but when I'm Supergirl... it's incredible.
