We have a masquerade coming up, and I was bored so I thought I'd mettle in people's lives for my own amusement. First, the disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with going to a dance solo.

Now, for anyone else, who wants a date?

Sorry, not me. Taken. But there are probably some of you out there thinking a date would be fun, and sure, why not? So speak up. Let's make some love connections. Or, you know, awkward dancing connections. I'm a mutant, not a miracle worker.

[she holds up her hand in front of the screen to demonstrate that it is, in fact, a normal hand again.]

Is it a mandatory thing, or can we skip without worry of someone coming after us with a knife?

That hand looks exceedingly average. [She smiles and then looks somewhere between amused and puzzled.]

Why would you want to skip? [There will be dancing.]

... You mean besides it taking place on a planet made out of poison?

Boys are made of snips and snails and puppy dog tails and we still hang out with them. [It is a tragedy she never got a chance to be on a debate team.]

[Unfazed by that at this point.] Fair enough. But, yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of this moon either. I just like a good dance I guess. [Fond memories from before there were too few of those.]

I haven't heard about any knife-wielding enforcers, but somehow I think you could handle yourself if that's all they were packing.

And I'm pretty sure I haven't been to one of those formal, upper-class events since... High school? Definitely haven't danced since then. Hell, I've only been on one date at all since then that I know of.

[Let's not mention any of the other relevant points about why she suddenly stopped attending formal events. She does laugh a little at that second part, though.]

Yeah, a couple casts of Fire3 does tend to take out most people. Magic is pretty great.

Well, sure, why waste Fire1 or Fire2 when you can go right to three? Now, run the part where you've only been on one date sine then that you know of by me again. Could you have been on dates you didn't know about?

... I wasn't aware prison had proms?

Well, yeah, Fire and Fire2 are a lot weaker. If someone was coming at me with a knife, why bother with the weaker ones?

And, it's a very long story, but the short version is yeah, it's possible, just exceedingly unlikely. Especially after how the one I do remember went.

It's not supposed to have beaches, pet shops, or law-abiding citizens either. Call it progressive.

Why not just go with Fire162?

[Nodding and wondering how that's possible, but she knows how things can be in the various multidimensional traps so she accepts it.] Want me to send any other women seeking women your way or are you writing the dance off?

... Because it's the third-tier fire spell? And the basic elemental spells end at the third tier, anyway.

[Honestly, she'd like to blame amnesia, but in reality, she is just so dense it's entirely possible she's been on dates without realizing it.]

Well... I have been looking to try dating again, I guess. I don't feel like going solo, but if I was going with someone, I wouldn't mind.

It's possible I don't know anything about magic. I just knew 162 was a bigger number.

The pressure's on. I might have to try taking this seriously. [She actually is trying to see if she can picture the people who are open to it together now. What did she get herself into?]

I gathered. The first thing you should know about magic is that it's the best, and anyone who says otherwise is just mad at how less effective they are than a proper mage.

... Okay, I have to admit here, I'm sort of an amnesiac, and don't remember a lot of things. But I remember enough of high school science to know that that is not how atoms work. Like, at all.

I saw you go through a wall. I've seen my little sister go through walls, when she spent a while as a ghost. I didn't see anything about atoms.

I'm sorry the answer wasn't as scientifically satisfying as magic. [She almost jazz hands along with that. She just barely stops herself.]

After the Pokemon, I'm not sure why I bother questioning anything anymore.
