[ you can only drag making coffee so long, and winn's never excelled at dragging things out. he stares at his re-emptied cup for a moment before washing it, and heading back towards the room. tired and anxious as he is, he keeps his eyes on the floor, just focusing on not walking into a wall again - that hurts when kitty's not holding his hand! - but his eyes shoot up at the sound of footsteps. ]

Hi - heading back? [ is it wrong that he's relieved? no, it's the middle of the night. it's wrong that that's not why he's relieved, maybe. ]

Uh-huh~ Kitty said she'll visit later, so. [ That's clearly all he needed to be sent on his way. He's not a vampire of many complex needs, this one.

But he does look happy to see Winn again regardless. ]

Alright - [ he smiles and -- uncertain what else to do, pats sascha lightly on the shoulder ] good night, have a safe trip -

[ yeah it's a short one but those shuttles.

offering another little wave, he fully intends to head on back to the room. the longer he lingers, the greater his chances of ending up with a foot in his mouth, after all. ]

[It is kind of hard not to drift off when it's still dark and the bed is cozy and it's late or early or whatever happens at this hour. But she's still awake when the door opens.] Hey. [Her voice is soft, welcoming and concerned. It's a lot for a tone and one word to carry!]

Hey -

[ he gropes his way back into the bed, for once happy that the room's so small, and carefully sinks back into it with a sigh. he wraps an arm around her, and kisses the top of her head. ]

Need a lullaby? [ he's actually in trouble if she says yes because the only one he knows is the one from mary poppins. ]

I just need you. [She curls up against him, glad he doesn't seem mad. Except mad is the thing he hides. Why so difficult, boyfriend?] Are you sure nothing was wrong? [This is your second shot at honesty. Alone this time!]

[ if he were simple, you'd be bored! why do this to him, he doesn't want to outright lie to her, not ever, and this phrasing leaves him with no wiggle room to avoid the subject. it's the middle of the night, and he's picturing a shapeshifting werewolf eating his girlfriend. of course something is wrong.

he sighs, his throat suddenly feels dry. ]

I know that sometimes, people have no choice. But it really doesn't sound like the case with Mr. Big Bad. I don't - Kitty, it's not about powers, or difficult pasts, I just...I'm worried.

[ if you had another choice and you go with killing - that's not forgivable to him. if you're unrepentant about your actions - that's even worse. that's his dad. ]

[It was that? She reaches up to stroke his hair.] I don't think there's anything wrong with being cautious around him. I don't know enough about him to say what his feelings are now or intentions were then or what happened and Sascha gets things...confused sometimes. [She doesn't consider him a credible source of anything really. Just a starting point.]

What are you worried about?

You.

[ honestly. he has no way to help her, no way to protect her, and if anything happened to her, how's he supposed to keep living with himself? especially if he saw trouble and said nothing, did nothing. ]

[That was not the answer she expected. Not that she had a specific one in mind.] ...Me? Why?

Because -- he could hurt you? [ maybe it really is the hour, he just feels like they're completely missing each other's points. it sounds like she knows the guy, and now the thought of her being eaten by a giant wolf is going to haunt every second he doesn't know where she is. he loves her. it doesn't take a lot for him to worry about her. but to him - this doesn't look like that little, either. ]

[She just assumed he was worried about himself or Sascha who spends lots of time with Bigby or people in general. She didn't think he'd be worried specifically about her. A silly assumption maybe. She kisses his cheek.]

I don't think he wants to, but if he did try something I could defend myself. I don't have as many powers as Kara, but I promise I'm good with them. I'm good without them too.

[ he's worried about himself - but he's pretty good at avoidance. and sascha - ok he worries about him a little bit, but he's pretty he understands nothing about the guy yet. and he's ok with admitting he's a little selfish - he cares about kitty more. she's his priority here. ]

You shouldn't have to. [ he wants to believe in everyone in the fleet, he really does. but discoveries like these are unnerving. he was hoping so hard that the atroma at least only chose good people - they do seem to favor superheroes! and if they only chose good people, that would also mean there's no chance his dad would ever show up. but now all the concern he buried down finds its way back up; maybe they can't trust everybody. and maybe tomorrow he'll wake up to the last face he wants to see greeting him on the network. ]

I mean, no... And I don't think I will, but things happen. I'm not going to go taunt him or anything. [Probably. It does kind of sound like something she'd do.] Is this all about Bigby?

[Is he worried about her fighting? He seems so supportive of Kara.]

[ he worries about kara. he just doesn't tell her. then again, she also doesn't ask if something's wrong. and he's proud of his amazing superhero girlfriend, he is. but she's fought too much already, he doesn't want her to have to go back to that, he's scared of everything it'll bring up for her. and kara...at full power, kara's invulnerable to most anything. kitty's died once already.

he bites down on his lip, trying to swallow down the panic and fear that come up with the mere thought, and holds her tighter to him.

he's less than useless in a fight; he's a handicap, something for them to worry about. maybe jim's right, maybe he really should start working out with him.

suddenly, another thought occurs to him, and it's one he clings to because it's curious, and strange, and he'll take anything that isn't pure fear at this point. ]

What'd you think it was about?

Originally I thought maybe it was because I was touching Sascha. Now, I don't know. Maybe you're worried about me fighting at all or worried there are more threats in the fleet. Or just imagining worst-case scenarios.

Well - now it's all of the above -

[ whereas before it was...most of the above. he didn't actually worry about her touching sascha until she brought it up, he just kinda felt like too much of a kid to be a threat. ]

Oh... [Now she's at a loss for words. This is why he was supposed to answer and not have her make up things!]

I was just comforting him. I don't think he gets much of that. He's hated and alone back home. It kind of reminds me of the time when I was homeless and being hunted. Just feeling completely alone. I mean, I don't think he's scared, but alone is its own kind of awful.

He has some kind of brain damage too. I don't know much about it, but he's lost most of his memories. I think it might be making it hard for him to make new ones too. I don't see him like that.

[ he knows that kind of awful, he knows it all too well. and he knows hiding it all behind a smile, too. he squeezes her a little bit. ]

I didn't think you did. [ look at their little island of misfit toys. is there anyone here who doesn't know that awful loneliness? ]

I kinda like him, barging in in the middle of the night aside - [ nice, inquisitive, excitable - he could be his little brother. except. he's a vampire, so he's probably older than him -- but winn's just gotten used to being the older guy around. it's depressing - but he's gotten used to it. ]

You didn't think I did, but you were upset that I touched him? [Just wanting to figure out so that it doesn't happen again in an upsetting way.]

He likes you. I mean, he likes everyone who is nice... No. Actually, I think he likes everyone who talks to him no matter how they do it. Um, but he wanted to know if you'd come dance with us. I've been giving him dance lessons.

No, I just spiraled there for a second when you said it.

[ because. you know. she said it.

that gets a sad little smile from him - that...pretty much sounds exactly like him back home. here...there are so many people who are nice, and no one who's been mean yet, so he's not sure how he'd respond to someone treating him badly yet..he wants to hope that he'll deal with it better now that he has more than one real friend and some weird friendships sprinkled around it, but who can ever tell. ]

Yeah, of course. [ just tell him the big bad wolf isn't going to make an appearance in those lessons. ]

[She nuzzles against him.] I did not think it would have that effect. I love you. I only want to be with you.

I said you might be able to arrange music.

[ he can't help but smile when she does that, it's not fair, it's just so cute. he kisses her forehead, and snuggles her close. ]

Ah, yeah, I'll talk to Cisco - what kind of beat do you need? On the faster or slower side?

Slower. I think that works better with him. You're the best. [Like she's just ignoring the part where Cisco will be doing the work.]
