[she finds this whole moon kind of overwhelming. she's not of legal drinking age, she definitely doesn't want to try any of the other things they're passing out around here... so she just kinda... takes to wandering and hoping there's nothing interesting around so that she has an excuse to go back to sitting on her ship alone.

which is how she eventually wanders upon someone making things. people like that always catch her eye, but this one seems pretty quiet and reserved compared to the rest of the moon. also kind of familiar? maybe he's been on the network...

[ It's another tavern of some kind, this time with a few more tools and a tray with soft cloth folded into it as a back for the embossing. He is drawing another tree, but this time it's not in a forest - it's a tree that looks dead, in emptiness. He's decided to embrace the jagged quality of the other image. Decided to push his emotions into this in a way he doesn't, usually, when he's making something pretty to sell.

He rubs a large, rounded tool into the spaces between impressions, solidifying the main trunk. A slightly narrower one starts to fill out the branches that he's already traced. Despite the minor noise around him, people eating and drinking, he is focused. ]

[seems pretty nice. she remembers when she had time to do stuff like that...

she admittedly doesn't know a whole lot about her fae self. she's heard (or maybe just instinctively knows) that she can get glamour off of people who are artistic and creative... since they're closer to magic, and all that, but she's never done it. she wouldn't know where to start.

but, hey, maybe it'd be nice to just... watch someone do art for a while. she gathers up her courage, pushing her hair off of her shoulders, and walking forward. she'll wait politely in front of him until he can look up and notice she's there.]

[ He looks up as she approaches him - like there's some sphere of awareness, extending from him, and she's finally entered into it. He digs the thumb of one hand into the palm of the other, stretching out cramping muscles. ]

Um... [she doesn't do a good job of not being awkward, especially with how soft-spoken she is, but she doesn't chicken out!] Hi. I was just... gonna ask you what you were doing, if that's... not totally weird.

[treasureling]

[ A hint of a smile. ]

Of course you can ask.

[ladiesss]

Oh, okay. [...an awkward pause...] Um, what are you doing?

[treasureling]

[ Her awkwardness is a little funny, but he doesn't tease her about it. ]

It's a process of embossing metal. A very simple technique, and not a very good one - ordinarily I would use something like pitch or clay on the back but I'm very poor.

[ He lets her see for herself what he's making. A flowing tree, from top to bottom, but the further up it gets, the more jagged and sharp. It's a story, he thinks, personally, of first impressions, from smooth to rough. ]

Oh... That happens, around here.

[she scoots in closer, keeping her long hair out of the way... she can sense that quite a bit of effort went into it. it looks nice. kind of falls under her aesthetic.]

Are you just doing it for fun?

[treasureling]

[ He wishes he was. He gives a little shake of his head. ]

I'm trying to make a little money. So I can do this more.

[ladiesss]

Oh, I gotcha.

[she will... quietly scoot down into a seat perpendicular to him. mostly so she can look at it closer. it at least helps her be heard better.]

I'd offer to help, but I might have just... blew all my money in a bookstore, so.

[treasureling]

[ A shake of his head - which might have been a little swift. He half-smiles. ]

I don't usually take gifts from women. Even young women.

[ladiesss]

Oh, okay.

[she... sits there for a few seconds before she starts to think... that was kind of a weird answer.]

...Can I ask why?

[treasureling]

Because I support myself.

[ladiesss]

Oh, okay. [repeating herself. sounds fine. maybe she just thought it was phrased weirdly. checks out to her.] Then, uh, by all means. Keep making cool stuff.

[treasureling]

I mean - most men don't, in my world. Gifts are to show how much better off she is.

[ladiesss]

...How much better the women are from the men? [is she following this right?]

Better off. She is earning money; he isn't.

[ladiesss]

Ooooh, then this is you declaring your independence because you're a self-sufficient person.

[treasureling]

...well, it sounds kind of silly when you say it like that.

[ladiesss]

[...aw, that makes her smile.]

Nah, it's cool. I kinda get it.

[treasureling]

[ It brings out an answering smile in him. ]

It means a lot to me, to support myself. Not to rely on my clan.

Oh, that's good, though. I get it. It's good to be able to do stuff yourself.

[she thinks for a moment. leaning forward, slumping a little on the table.]
