[She actually appreciates this. This is a level she knows how to communicate on, and if Erik is willing to talk like that, she doesn't have to worry about if she should try to figure out how to sound like a normal person.]

I don't need or want you to pat me on the ass. But give me a fucking minute to get over it. I don't know how to switch off my feelings if no one's shooting at me. I'm not that smart.

Then let's get over it. I'm not upset. No, I don't like being touched like that without warning. [Or at all, barring some exceptions.] Especially on this planet. So you don't need to concern yourself over it more than that.

It's not just about you. I should've known better. The planet whatever really doesn't matter. It's selfish and dumb to touch people without asking first because you don't know what shit they have going.

I accept that you feel badly about it, but I wasn't going to ignore the fact that you weren't looking at me. [Maybe if she had been one of his followers in days gone by, and he'd given her a dressing down that way. That particular leadership slant will never entirely leave him.]

Since when do you have to use guns to shoot at people? [Or are Erik's powers way less awesome than she was led to believe? But anyway, she knows there are way more projectile weapons out there than regular guns.

Or whatever. I can't shoot for shit. But it's more an expression that encompasses all the myriad ways people could try to murder my ass. [Because ultimately, those are the kind of conditions she knows how to deal with best.]

It's what's typically meant in my world. [Other than missiles. Mutant firepower is too poorly understood by the majority to factor into the expression.]

None of which I'm going to use in a conversation, I would think. [Unless it went extremely south. Unlikely, but always a possibility with the various people he could encounter here.]

Yeah, I didn't like actually mean you would. Just I'm shitty at talking like a normal person but I'm a lot better at dodging bullets so that's easier.

My favorite joke in M.I. used to be headbutting people. It doesn't work very well in regular conversations. So. [She's pretty sure the problem here is her and not you, Erik. Because Erik is awesome as far as she's concerned.]

I think... I didn't really get your humor when I first met you, but I have a hard time understanding people sometimes anyway and a lot of jokes seem to involve not really saying what you mean. [Shrug.] Then I realized your sense of humor is kind of like my former partner's. It took me a long time to figure him out, but then he was funny as all hell.

What were you shopping for before I started bugging you?

Soup ingredients. [He gestures towards the table, piled high with vegetables of many colourful varieties.]

I'm hoping to make supplies that will last a while if they're taken back to the ship.

[She moves a little closer to look at the table.] I like the colors. [...she has no idea what that stuff is, other than "generic plant thing that people somehow transform into food."]

How are you going to do that? It's so cool that you can cook.

Soup tends to be easy. Cook the vegetables for a few minutes, then add them to a pot of water and stock. That's about it.

You make it sound easy. [She gently pokes one of the vegetables.] So after you make it into soup are you gonna put it in cans or something?

I kind of know how to make noodles? I mean. Like not the noodles themselves. They have to come out of a package. But I can like. Make a thing with noodles?

Jars, most likely. This planet doesn't have a lot of metal goods.

That's a start. I used to have recipe books in Kyriakos, that's how I learned.

Ooh, jars. Yeah. Those are a thing. Probably make more sense than quikpaks. [She just thinks of everything in terms of rations by default.] Since I guess they don't have those here either.

Have you found any books like that here? I bet they have good stuff.

To be honest, I haven't looked. I know the library on the Iskaulit does, though.

We should find an awesome one from here to add to the library! Like... what if you could get a book about food from every planet we went to, how cool would that be?

[And maybe if she's awesome enough, Erik will make stuff for her some time. A girl can dream.]

It shouldn't be too hard to manage. Charles might know better where the booksellers are around here.

Probably. I don't know where any stuff like that is, but we could ask him. You've definitely got to pick the book out though, since you know how to cook best.
