C
Hey, Starlight! You busy?
no subject
Hey Cowboy. [Even if Clay can't see it, he'll still smile] I'm not busy, why?
no subject
[There's a pause to give Allen some time to ponder that, then he grins as he glances at the communicator.]
You said you wanted to try Korean food someday?
no subject
Ah! You're making Korean food??
Where are you?
no subject
[He gives the food in the dish a little flip, a teasing tone in his voice as he keeps speaking.]
Better hurry, or I'll have this galaxy-sized meal all for myself.
no subject
[Still!! Food! Cooked by his favorite person!!]
I'll be right over!
no subject
See you in a bit! Love you!
[He turns off the comm, then sets to work putting all the finishing touches on the dishes. Once Allen's made it up the elevator, he'll likely smell the scent of delicious food, of spices and meats and grilled vegetables. From how much it lingers in the air, it's obvious he's been working on all this for a while.]
no subject
[He turns off the comm as well and starts heading off. It does take a few minutes to get there, but soon enough he'll be stepping through the front door of the cabin]
Ah! It smells so good in here!
no subject
I was hoping so! I've been at this for so long, I think the smell just faded out for me!
[With that said, Clay moves in to hug Allen in greeting - then turn them both so that when he lets go of him, it's to guide him towards the table. He knows food is pretty high up on Allen's priority list and all. But with that touch, Allen can feel equal parts pride and nostalgia, happiness and love - and he's a bit tired, too, but nothing a nap can't fix after this.]
Have at it! I can tell you what they are as you go. There's an appetizer, three main dishes, and a dessert, but you can start with whatever's fine with you.
no subject
Ah, it all looks so good! [He moves to sit down at the table] How long did you spend cooking all this?
no subject
[Right, right, food time, not astronomy. He shakes his head, letting a little chuckle escape, and sits down at Allen's side.]
Yeah. A couple hours.
no subject
Well thank you. I mean it.
[He then pulls away, but is still smiling at him]
Okay, where should I start?
no subject
Once he pulls away though, Clay leans forward to start pulling one of the dishes forward.]
Technically with Korean food, this isn't really an appetizer. They're served as side dishes that are supposed to be part of the main meal. But in the Western part of the world, where I come from, they're definitely considered appetizers.
This is a green onion pancake, or pajeon. I didn't have some of the ingredients, so I improvised from stuff here and on my ship. I used some of the local seafood, so that would make this a haemul pajeon with soy sauce, honey, garlic, and minced red peppers as the dipping sauce.
no subject
Haemul pajeon... [He repeats the words, committing it to memory. He picks up a pair of chopsticks and uses them to tear off a piece with the sort of precision someone has that's very used to using chopsticks. Dipping it first, he'll take a bite. It's followed by yep, a very happy sound]
Ah, it's really good-! [Very savory. He nudges Clay] Hey, you should have some too!
[Sure, there was a temptation to eat it all himself. Were it something more mundane, he probably would. But this was more than that, it was Clay sharing a piece of his past, his heritage. And moments like that, it's best to share it together]
no subject
Really? [He had made this all with the intent to give to Allen, after all, while he'd probably get something afterwards. But Allen's willing to share? Ha, when has that ever happened in all the times he's dated Allen, or had food with him?]
no subject
no subject
Well, okay then. [With that said, he lets go take some chopsticks himself, though funnily enough, he doesn't seem as used to holding them as Allen is. He carefully tears off a piece as a result, dips it in the sauce, then takes a bite.
... Mmm. It is good! Not as good as it would've been if he had all the right ingredients, but still nice and savory, a good homage to his heritage that he doesn't know enough about.]
I think I've outdone myself!
no subject
Uh huh! I'd give this a stellar rating!
no subject
Oh? A full five stars?
no subject
[Which yeah, now that he's sure that Clay got some? He'll totally be chowing down on it a quicker amount. Since it really is good, and fast eating is habit for him. So between the two of them, the plate is clear soon enough]
Okay, what's next?
no subject
Well, these are the three main dishes, so you can take your pick!
[He gestures to the first one] This one's spicy stir-fried chicken, or dak galbi. [...] Or, uh... spicy stir-fried raptor, and I don't know the Korean word for raptor. It's technically a chicken? Uh, anyway... The meat's been marinated in a red pepper sauce I made, and it's been mixed in with sesame leaves, sweet potatoes, leeks, cabbage, scallions, and some noodles, along with chili pepper sauce!
[And the second:] And since the first one's spicy, you might want to save this one for after it. This is chilled soy milk noodle soup, or kongguksu. For the former vegetarian side of you! I couldn't find the traditional soy milk, so I used the closest thing they have to it, which is still good! They're made with the beans I used, toasted sesame seeds, and mixed nuts all blended up to make the broth. In that are thin noodles, cucumber strips, and a little bit of tomato. It's a pretty popular summer recipe back home!
[Now, on to the final one:] And these are sushi rolls, or gimbap! They look like Japanese sushi, but there's actually some key differences. Gimbap has a lot more ingredients than the Japanese rolls, and nothing in here is raw. For these, I put in carrots, parboiled spinach, cucumber, eggs, radish, and a mix of raptor meat and seafood.
[Finally, Clay sits back down, leaning back so that Allen can can survey the food and make his choice.]
Now it's all up to you!
no subject
Hmmm...okay, okay! I really love spicy food so I should probably save that one... [gotta give the others a fair chance] Let's start with the gimbap!
[That also may have been a very small "eee" squeal in excitement after that, but hey. He's very happy okay]
no subject
Gimbap it is. [He pulls that plate in particular closer to Allen, then goes ahead and takes a couple of the rolls for himself. There's still more than enough for Allen, and Clay would rather wait to see what he thinks before helping himself.] Dig in!
I thought I had replied to this...
I SEE HOW IT IS
Glad you think so! These were actually some of the more difficult ones to make. Getting all the food in there like that and all.
