I've got just the thing. I'll have the bottle out when you get here. The bar's empty right now, too, so no need to worry there.
Well, except for Drools. But he doesn't count.
[Yes Wolfe brings his dog to work.]

youre the best you know that
well you and tyrion you guys can fight it out over who is better
best
wait
no
drools is the best second only to dog nevemrind
text
so does Drools
Drools is the finest mabari in the fleet and he challenges Dog to a tug-o-war on a knotted rope in defense of his title
three days hence on the Iskaulit
the gauntlet has been thrown my good woman
or whatever a dog would throw
rawhide
ball
something
[Hopefully that makes her laugh.]
text
very well dog and i accept this challenge
kindly get ready to lose horribly
for there is none in the sector of the galaxy who can outmatch dog
he is hte superior tug-o-war beast

[After a moment.]
That looks sort of naughty with the winking smile on there
Entirely not what I meant

Either way, the booze will be poured to the glory of whatever stupid thing you did in a bit
We got this new whiskey on planet that's nice and burny

She misses having a brother, misses Carver more than she can properly express. Misses those who aren't present, the people who became her family when she was left with nothing else. It wouldn't hurt, would it? He's probably feeling the same, or at least something similar, which is why he asked in the first place.
It hurts but she curls into herself, wounds flaring angrily, and rests her forehead on top of her knees. She'd make for a pathetic sight right now, arm and side burnt, clothes charred, hair a mess. Makes her glad that he can't see her, nor hear the tremor she'd undoubtedly have in her voice. Wouldn't be able to live if down if he heard.
Her reply comes a few moments later, short and sweet: ]
yeah
[ Don't mess this one up. ]

[He'd sent it too quickly, giving away entirely that he'd been basically staring at the screen until she'd replied instead of working like he's supposed to be doing. He hadn't been sure he should send it, should ask outright what he'd felt about her from the start. She's so much like him, so much like Bethany. She just fits in a way he can't describe. Makes his missing Carver sharper but also more bearable.
He just has to somehow not come off as too weird or eager or... himself. No, he'll be himself just not the him that gets in his own way. He's tried this already, trying to let her know that he's here for her, that she can talk to him, that he's going to have her back like a brother should. This time feels more like it might stick, and he wonders if Carver ever had to try this hard with Bethany or if their twin hivemind thing they could do where they finished each others sentences and somehow knew each others wicked schemes without talking just happened.
He wonders if they'll be like that, then decides that's a thought that Adalwolfe who gets in his own way would have and shoves it aside. Just let it be.]
healer gotten to you yet?
