[When you've been away from home as long as Allen has without seeing anyone, you grow to expect not to see anyone from your home. Especially the circumstances he let under...well, hope wasn't all that high for a reunion.

So turning on the communicator to see that familiar face? Hear that familiar voice? It's almost surreal, like he's in some kind of dream. He ends up staring at the communicator, not sure how to feel at seeing a guy he was pretty damn sure he'd never see again]

[It was him wasn't it? Who else looked like, and would be angerily complaining about his sword being missing first thing. It was really him. His old comrade who-]

Kanda seizes up entirely, an unconscious reaction that looks far, far too deep to be casual; he's sheet white, and his voice is so quiet that a butterfly could sneeze and be heard.]
