Now that they have their suits in hand, Ochako leads them out, slinging her bag over her shoulder.]

Okay! Next step is to go to one of our ships to give them a quick wash and get changed- with the suits under your clothes instead of underwear. There's probably nowhere to change on the planet, so it's easier this way.

Ochako stands on the edge of a sparkling lake in the middle of a sea of trees, kicking her shoes off and spreading her towel out on a stretch of grass beside the water. It's not as fun as sand, but it's better than dirt.]

Okay! Are you ready to swim?

I am ready to try, anyway.

[She is ready! ... She has also brought like three extra towels.]

Though I am not certain how to even begin...

Best place to start is to get right into the water! It's shallow near the shore, so until you get a feel for it, we'll stay there. It's pretty hard to drown when your feet can still touch the bottom!

[Well, harder than the alternative, anyway. Once her clothes are off and she's left only in her swimsuit, she heads for the water, splashing her feet into the water.]

...Ah!! It's chilly!

[She immediately just walks into the water, though she seems fine with the chill. In fact, she's just getting in all at once, lowering herself to submerge as much as possible.]

If you wish to become used to the temperature, it is easiest to do it all at once.

[Okay. Okay!! She's here to help, she can't chicken out now. Water's always cold when you first get in. And this isn't as chilly as the ocean she's used to.]

...Right. 1, 2, 3... go!

[With a running jump she lunges right into a deeper part of the water, disappearing beneath the surface for a moment. Within seconds she bursts back to the surface, eyes wide.]

So... refreshing...!

[Might take a minute to, uh, acclimate.]

... If you will pardon my saying so, you do not look terribly refreshed...

[She's shivering a bit, but otherwise fine.]

No, no, it's not bad! I just need to get used to it.

[She keeps herself submerged up to her neck, treading water as she adjusts.]

It helps if you move around, so try sitting down and kicking your feet in the water! It's good practice for real swimming.

[She mimics Ochako, sitting down and kicking.]

Is this part of swimming?

Yup! An important one. Your arms don't do as much to keep you afloat in the water, so you have to rely on keeping your legs kicking. It's kind of a balancing act, arms and legs working together.

... And attempting to keep the tail from getting in the way, I suppose.

[Hmm, yeah, that's something she's not sure she can really help with.]

Does it get in the way when you run?

[foxpas]

Not unless I specifically hold it down, or it is held down by my skirt or something of the sort. Rather, I cannot run without it, having no sense of balance without it.

[A patch of her lower back, specifically the skin around where her tail meets her spine, is covered in a large scar. And she's talking about being without her tail like she's actually experienced it. She seems rather casual about all of this, though.]

[Since she's so chill about it, Ochako doesn't quite pick up on that.]

I wish Ojiro was here... he could probably tell you. He does all kinds of stuff with his tail.

"Ojiro"? Is he a friend of yours?

Yeah, he's in my class back home. His tail is huge! And his control over it is really impressive. It never seems to get in his way.

I imagine it would not, any more than your arms would.

Is that his 'quirk'?

Yup! Some people have power based quirks and others have physical. And some have powers that come from the physical. There's a big variety!

Oh, I see! His tail must do something special, then?

[willynilly]

Really special! He can use it like a weapon, or to move faster, or to hang upside down... it's really neat. Like one giant, fluffy muscle.

[foxpas]

... He can hang from it? That truly is impressive.... My tail hurts just thinking of it.

I guess it all depends on what it's there for. You said your tail was for balance, yeah? His is like an extra limb.

That is right. Mine is not nearly so strong as that. I wonder if I should train it more... What kind of tail is it?
