[It's your average day on the Iskaulit. Absolutely nothing seems out of place initially, but without any warning- you might find yourself or your friends experiencing some problems. What's up on that?

In other words, it's an Iskaulit mingle with a twist! Come on in everyone! You don't need to interact with Sora to have it effect you, so feel free to start your own threadstarter! Or talk to Sora, that's cool too. ]

[Even seeing Fenris there he might not have made the logical leap it took to connect the appearance of the spell and the elf himself if I weren't for the look of absolute helpless terror on his face. That alone makes Felix certain of the cause, although not at all how that's possible.]

I imagine that makes two of us...

[He manages shocked sarcasm as he struggles to sit up a little, though a brief attempt ends with a pained hiss. Probably not broken, but the ice alone is an issue. He isn't sure which one to tackle first.]

[Fenris has no idea of how to help with that, he just stares at the ice like he's expecting it to rise up and kill them all horribly. He wraps his arms around his chest, focusing on his breathing. In. Out. Calm. ]

Something is very, very wrong.

[That he can grant Fenris but even he can tell the elf is just to one side of panic and suddenly the thought occurs to him that what he has on his hands is a fledgling mage not in control of his powers. The last thing Fenris needs is to be given more reasons to panic.]

I take it this development is not of your own design?

[It's mostly conversational but who was to say it wasn't some attempt to remove the tattoos gone awry? He focuses on the ice as he speaks, though, and after a moment waves a hand nonchalantly towards it and ice begins to melt rapidly.]

No.

[His tone is sharp, worried. He doesn't understand what's happening, other than the fact this is his worst nightmare, come to life. Ever since he knew of Varania, of what she was, a seed of worry had been planet, and now it's growing.

He could have easily have been born with magic.

It wouldn't make sense for it to appear now, of course. The lack of his markings suggest something bigger at place, but what...well, he could guess, but it's not an answer he'd like. ]

I wouldn't do this to myself.

[Sorry, buddy, always got to hate on the magic. ]

[He's not going to start taking it personally now, and if he had to guess, Fenris isn't the only one that would be disquieted at finding themselves suddenly with control of magic.]

Not intentionally, no. But I'm getting the impression you weren't involved in this decision at all...

[He draws his legs up as the ice pools to water underneath him and moves to try to get up] How long...ah...[He winces in pain. No, that's not going to happen without help]...how long has this been going on?

No. I wasn't.

[He growls it out, always the charmer. His hands clench and unclench, trying to reign it in, trying to understand how to...actually do that in the first place. He tries to clam his breathing, but it's still a shuddery mess.]

Today? Less than an hour.

[He's not sure, he's been swimming in pure, unadulterated panic since it started.]

[He understands that panic. Even in people without a deep and abiding hatred for it, finding oneself saddled with that kind of power comes as a shock. Growing up in the Lower City, where magic brought with it a murmured undercurrent of suspicion, discovering he was a wizard came as it's own kind of blow.]

I realize you are less than pleased, but...[he moves to try to stand again and fails with a wince which trails off into a sigh of frustration]

Powers, would you help me up? [He doesn't want to have his conversation from the floor, to start with, and giving Fenris something to do will be the first step to focusing his emotions away from his fear]

[Fenris isn't used to just touching anyone. He tends to avoid it whenever he can- even with people he trusts. As such, he stares down at Felix for a moment. He doesn't trust his own powers, to reach out and touch him- in case he sets the guy on fire.

Eventually, though, he exhales, moving to offer a hand. Yep. He's just gona YANK you out of the ice. That's his plan.]

[There's really not that much ice left by the time Fenris reaches down and pulls, leading to yet another surprised yelp as he finds himself upright far too quickly, wrenching his shoulder and making him overbalance right into Fenris. He does his best to keep his weight on his other ankle, which makes distancing himself quickly...problematic.]

Finesse clearly isn't one of your strong suits...

[Fenris, being the gallant hero he is, doesn't help steady Felix at all, instead opting to step aside, to keep himself more clear of the man. No more touching for him today, thank you very much. ]

It is not something I aspire to, no.

[Felix is equally okay with no more continued contact and after a few moment of wobbling, sets himself apart with a frown]

Now...[He straightens his jacket to try to return to normal, despite the fact that there is ice on the floor still and his pant leg is now soaked with cold water. There is, for the moment, a more important issue]...let's start with the basics. Does any of this seem familiar to the magic from your world, or is it something else?

[Fenris folds his arms around himself, as if that would do anything to stop the horrible feeling of magic creeping into his veins. As if, if he does that, it creates a barrier- that what he's talking about isn't really happening to him.]

It looks like the magic from my world- when I've observed mages cast spells, yes.

[If only it were that easy, Fenris.]

What do you know about how it works. Before you object, I'm not asking for any theory, just how casting spells is usually done.

[Because this is the hurdle he has to get over for the both of them. From what he knows of magic, it should be fundamentally impossible to do what Fenris is doing by accident. Magic was an art of intent. But it was also true that impossible had little bearing here and that young wizards sometimes had their magic twist out of their control in small ways.]

[Fenris really was about to object, Felix cutting it off before the objection coule being casts a dark cloud on an already angry face. ]

What I understand of it means it shouldn't truly work here anyway. Thedosian magic is connected to the fade, something which...is not quite here.

[But Justice was sent there, wasn't it? Maybe...maybe there's more of a connection here than he realised.]

That isn't what I mean. That's what makes it possible, but as you've noted the possible is not precisely part of the equation.

[He takes a deep breath. Teaching magic was difficult enough, sometimes, but teaching it to someone that wasn't willing was more so. But the children in Corambis had bucked against his ideas too. He could deal with this]

Listen to me. Most often, spell-casting is not something that happens without a trigger. Incantations spoken, words written, gestures made, effects visualized. Anything can be the catalyst and it differs for every world. For me, it's a matter of intent and concentration but clearly you're doing something to set it off without the desire or effort.

[Fenris seems wrapped up inside himself, trying to fight back this thing crawling about inside of him. Be he does still- listening. ]

Mages use a staff to concentrate their spells- but I have seen it done with a gesture, also.

I- do not know much more. I have seen magic for the danger it is, rather than studied the finer points in using it.

[A misstep, on his part, he is now learning. ]

[Felix nods tersely but in understanding. None of this is Fenris' fault, and his anger - while shortsighted - was expected.]

There are benefits to studying that which you most fear. It will be best to speak to one of the mages from your world if you truly want to get a handle on this but we can start somewhere basic...

[He casts around the halls, but they're nowhere near any of the established rooms and he isn't delighted by the thought of a long walk on his still throbbing ankle. A nearby vacant area will do. Felix turns with a gesture]

[Fenris glances around them for a moment, furtive, like a cornered animal. He's always on the look out for an ambush, and now he's in such a distressed state, that has only grown more pronounced. He does, though, move to follow Felix, better that than setting himself or the entire damn place on fire. ]

...Perhaps that would be a wise idea. There are mages form my world here.
