Did I eat today? [ that's mumbled to himself. he can't remember. ]

Uh, sure. I guess. I thought I saw some kebabs.

[Axel makes a face.]

'Did I eat today'? Are you kidding me? [He sighs gustily and shakes his head.] For Light's sake, it's like Roxas' first week all over again, I swear that kid would'a forgotten his head if it hadn't been attached. [Grumbling.] 'Did I eat today', bah. How do you forget to eat?

[Of course he's done it himself, but that doesn't mean he can't give Riku a hard time about it.]

Come on, I know I saw a fruit stand, too; I wanna see what they've got and hoard some of it up to the ship. [He makes a whiny noise.] I can't survive on tofu and toothpaste.

I didn't remember if I ate or not! I don't have everything memorized like you.

[ thaaat's a lie but he'll roll with it ]

Eating is almost as important as napping, Riku, get with the program.

[He shoves his hands into his pockets.]

I'm not much of a cook, I'm afraid. Besides, all we've got's a microwave, I dunno how much you can even do with that. [A sigh.] I'm just glad we've got a coffee machine.

You know after approximately twelve days without sleep your organs actually start shutting down? Like, you have to sleep, it's not just a cushy luxury. I'm just trying to keep up.

--wait, how did you figure that out? [ INTENSELY FOLLOWING. ]

Well, Zexion was really hardcore into science, you know? Like he'd do just about anything for the sake of discovery. So Vexen hooked him up to a machine and then we all took shifts keeping him awake for days at a time.

[He managed to keep a straight face up until this point.]

So Zexion not only had no heart, he also had no liver or spleen, as a result of his lust for knowledge.

[There's a long moment of silence, and then Axel just bursts out laughing. He just looks so serious! Like, he really believed that! Someone wrote 'gullible' on the ceiling, Riku.]

... Riku, I'm pulling your leg. I read about it, okay? I'm pretty sure Zexion had all of his other organs.

Ah--no, you're wrong. I'm pretty sure they all shut down.

[He blinks at him, looking a little unsure, and then clears his throat.]

Well, the state of his insides aside, it's true that you can only go so long without sleeping. Or without eating. [He reaches over and sort of pokes him in the shoulder.] So, try not to forget to do those things once in a while, got it memorized?

[ he twitches lightly before he pushes his hand away. ]

I never said anything about sleeping, did I?

[He hefts a sigh.]

[They round a corner and the smell of food wafts through the air. Axel points toward the kebab place.]

You were right. C'mon, let's see what they've got.

[Lamb, pork, beef, and... is that rabbit? Axel rubs his chin. He's never tried rabbit, maybe it'll be a learning experience. He pokes through his pocket to dig up some of the coins he got exchanged from credits, then looks at Riku.]

Got enough? [Axel's been doing all right as far as ratings go; he'll have enough to get some stuff to take back up to the ship, he thinks.]

[ ah, did he? riku frowns as he digs through the little satchel he'd gotten--looks like he's buying all kinds of items here. oh, yeah... he nods. ]

[Axel peeks into the satchel curiously--well, he's a little nosy. He sees what looks like some carving tools and a few paintbrushes.]

You a painter?

[He turns to the man at the table then and orders a skewer of rabbit and one of chicken, then steps back and waits for Riku to get whatever he's getting. He takes an experimental bite of the rabbit.]

Huh. Not bad. S'a little bland, though. What'd you get?

[ riku makes a face and pulls his satchel a little closer to himself. ]

Don't be nosy.

[ when he joins axel a little later, he takes a bite of his own beef--he has two as well. he hums and then shakes his head. ]

Beef. It's okay, but it could use some pepper. And paprika... and probably some garlic.

I'm not nosy, I'm curious. Connotative difference!

[He nibbles at the rabbit and nods in agreement.]

Garlic would be awesome. [Two dots connect somewhere in the back of his head. Earlier he'd said that you had to know how to cook the tofu stuff, and now this...] You like to cook?

[ what? ugh, if only their communicators had dictionaries.

... if only he could use it right now.

axel's perceptive nature makes him stiffen mid-bite and he starts to get a little pink. ]

I know how. [ that's all he's saying. ]

[Conoh...? Oh. He's going to take a wild guess Riku wasn't the king of the spelling bee in school.]

[ he doesn't know 'infer', but he can guess. even if he needs a moment of just staring at axel to understand it. ]

[ he's not even making fun, he's honestly serious. did you memorize it or something?

but, he's right. riku shifts in place, looking... well, awkward. and, for once, his age. ]

I'm... not good at this. [ he says it honestly, tugging a lock of his bangs. ] Sora's better with people.

... I learned how to cook when I was little, but... it's not like Maleficent or DiZ was gonna feed me, you know? So I looked for some help off-word and learned from a chef. [ there's a little quirk to his lips. ] Battle's good for learning how to be aware of what's going on around you, but... a kitchen's better.
