JOB BOARD

[ladiesss]

[it does not take Krista long at all to decide that she wants more stuff. but to get more stuff, she needs more money. which means she either needs to pull off some social stunt for a pay boost (...not likely), or she needs to suck it up and do a little work.

so she's at the job board, looking over the postings, talking quietly to herself.]

Spiders, no... Wolves, no... Wait, dire rats? Sounds kind of like this town has a pest control problem...

[ino]

[ She's not even stopping at the job board -- actually, she's on her way back out of town -- but she pauses when she sees Krista pondering over the board. ]

Oh, hey -- !

[ladiesss]

[she pauses, halfway through lifting up another notice...]

Oh, hey. What's up?

[ino]

I was just heading out to the forest ...

Did you say something about rats?

[ Comes over to join her at the board ]

[ladiesss]

Dire rats, take a look.

[she goes back, points out the specific one. someone has a rat problem in their farmhouse and wants a hand clearing them out!]

What's so dire about them? Maybe they're huge.

[ino]

[ She wrinkles her nose ]

As if regular rats aren't bad enough. Eughh.

Oh--

[ It's........that book girl. ]

It's good that I found you. I finished one of the books, but...if you're busy, I can wait to lend it to you.

[ladiesss]

Oh... [she turns to see... that other book girl. that's right.]

Hi. Oh. Hey. That's awesome, no... [putting down the notice she was looking at to give her attention!] That sounds cool, I'll totally trade. I kind of got sidetracked with building a library, but, uh...

That's fine, it's not like I'm in a hurry...

[ Peeking over at the notice. ]

You're trying to find work to do?

[ladiesss]

[she nods a little... oh, and then nods more as she looks over at that same notice.]

Oh, yeah! I was thinking about it... I'm not so good at fighting, or, uh... Creature extermination, though. I'm having trouble finding one that doesn't sound really ridiculous...

[amarant]

I could help with that, you know.

[hellofist]

[On the moons, finding work was easy. Look for someone with body language who said they wanted protection, ask questions to make sure she wasn't helping some murderer, punch people if the situation called for it, profit.

But here? Here there's a board, and Cassandra can't read. She chooses to mill around a little and hope to overhear something helpful, or maybe to follow some people to the destinations of their jobs and follow suit, but she hasn't had much luck yet.

When she hears Krista speaking, though, Cass wanders a little closer and points at random to the board.]

What's that one say?

[ladiesss]

Oh... [she looks over at Cass, and then back at the board, and then back at Cass.] Um...

[to be fair, the writing on these isn't great. kind of choppy. probably written by the one or two people in town who know how to write. the pictures? varied and maybe not that helpful. she follows wherever her finger is pointing, peers at the message, and translates.]

It, uh, I think this one is someone wanting help with deliveries around the town.

[hellofist]

Oh.

[She sounds surprisingly let down by that one. She'd like to leave things like that, easy and safe jobs, to other people. Let her handle the things that involve putting yourself at a lot of risk.]

Anything more interesting?

[ladiesss]

Um. This one wants bear pelts.

[she points to it. there's a helpful picture of a bear.]

Do you want to go fight bears? How interesting are we talking?

[hellofist]

No, not that. Bears have thoughts, feelings. Don't want to kill them.

[There's a post with a picture of a spider, though, so she points to that.]

Is this one... hunting for spiders? Spiders would work.

[hey, guess who else likes stuff? this guy right here. he leans in over her shoulder, peering at the board.]

Of course they do. Plenty of grain, garbage, expendable tourists to snack on... why wouldn't they have a dire-rodent problem?

[ladiesss]

[you know, she always knows that he's coming... and it always creeps her out anyway. she shudders, stepping out of his looming shadow.

said with no surprise whatsoever:] Oh, hi Tek.

[she hopes that's what he meant. she suddenly looks a little confused. worried? no. probably just confused.]

[no, that is not a knowing smile on his face, probably. you're being paranoid. he always looks like that.]

[ Yep, Aaron's standing near the way while others read off the board. It's easier than wading through it at his own ploddingly slow pace. Besides, then he gets to make commentary on their commentary! ]

[...wow, okay. she looks over at him, since she'd... barely noticed that anyone had been standing there anyway, giving him a disapproving look.]

Wow, do you just stand around to make commentary on stuff that people do?

[...she squints at him for a second, slowly realizing... and then gasping!]

[thankfully, her shouting is very quiet and largely ineffectual.]
