[It sure is a lovely day actually pretty much indeterminate time period out here in the vast darkness of space, isn't it? I bet everyone's enjoying themselves, getting a chance to get off their dinky little ship and stretch their legs. Even on this shitty, empty little waystation.

[ooc: hi everyone! I thought I'd give this a try and see how the game liked it. What we have here is a mass mingle post. Rather than everyone making a bunch of different posts about landing on the station, everyone is invited to post a parent comment with their character out and about, doing something. Everyone else is invited to look at who's posted, tag them, post their own parent comments, thread jack, tag around and generally have a grand old time! It should hopefully be a nice low-pressure way to do some action tagging with each other.

It's like one of those, and you can make it go faster or slower depending on how fast you wanna run.

[ he shrugs. ] I guess it helps, but not as much as actual running does.

[wilder]

Oh. Sounds thrilling.

[He sighs and plops down onto the ground next to Riku]

This place is shit.

[ riku looks briefly surprised by the sudden action, but he doesn't move otherwise, rubbing his forearm.

he looks thoughtful--he's seen worse, been through worse, but that doesn't change the fact that this is pretty bad. he sighs. ]

You think it'll get better?

[wilder]

[he sighs] Well, my default answer is "probably not", but the truth is I got no idea. Who knows what these basketcases are planning.

[limitstorm]

[ hm. he runs a hand through his hair. ]

It's hard to plan anything like this. What're we supposed to believe? This can't be it.

[wilder]

Nah, I'm sure there'll be more.

As for what that more will be? [He gives a dismissive sweep of his hand] Anyone's guess.

[ a frustrated noise. ]

It doesn't look like we can do anything--we're just floating along. D'you know if you can even change course?

[wilder]

[a shrug] You can if you're a pilot!

Though I haven't tested yet just how far I'm allowed to go.

[limitstorm]

I'd do it myself, but we're stuck on autopilot. [ he frowns. ] Weird. What don't you guys have, if you have a pilot?

[wilder]

Hm, maybe...I hadn't thought about it.

[Yes, it honestly looks like it hasn't dawned on him before to try it. He's so used to not being allowed to do anything, the reverse is almost hard to grasp]

Uh- not sure. We got a pilot, security officer, an engineer, someone in the labs - what else is there?

[limitstorm]

Hm... I don't know. I figured out what I do, and Robin's an engineer... but I don't know what the other two people do.

[ hmm. ]

With a network like this, you'd think we'd have someone take care of messages, in case anyone gets in trouble. Like a coordinated attack if we ran into something.

[wilder]

What is it that you do?

[He thinks]

...You mean like a receptionist?

[limitstorm]

Wh--no, no, it's more than that. People like that have to decipher codes, stuff like that. You don't want anyone out there picking up on battle orders.

[ after a moment; ]

Looks like I'm some sort of fighter. There's a ton of weapons in an armory, and I know how most of them work--even if I've never really seen them before.

[wilder]

Oh. [He thinks, trying to figure out what that'd be. At least pilots augments run some overlap with what he's talking about] So...Communicators?

[Or something like that.]

Ah. That'd be security. That's a good fit for you.

[limitstorm]

I guess? Dunno if anyone's like that.

[ slightly weirded out by that compliment, because he has been careful not to show it--but kaneis knows him from another time, so he tries not to look so caught off-guard. ]

... I guess it is. [ a sigh. ] Not sure I like it. I think I'd rather have something less...

[ important. ]

[What it's a big responsible job. Riku always seemed to be all over that, as well as watching out for other people. Knowing that, he shrugs]

Sure, you think that now. But if something happened and it was someone else handling that stuff and getting into danger - hell, I bet it wouldn't sit well with you at all.

[limitstorm]

[ BLUSHING.

and starting intently at the ground because he's right. ]

[Oh wow that's kind of adorable]

So you're telling me as a pilot you never even thought about flying as far away as you could?

[ mission: DIVERT TOPIC. ]

There's probably problems--none of our ships probably have enough fuel, and as far as I know, we don't have anything to tell how close a planet is.

[wilder]

[He snorts] Nice subject change.

[But at least he's willing to go along with it]

But, ah...no. Never really thought about it. [In fact, thinking about he's frowning. It seems so obvious now that Riku pointed it out.] ...Maybe I'm too used to being kept on a short leash.

[He gives a little sigh and shakes his head, pushing the thought away] But you got a point. No way it'd be that easy to get away.

[limitstorm]

[ hey if he's willing to go along with it, riku's fine with being called out on it. when he continues, riku can't help but frown. ]

On a short leash, huh. [ that doesn't sound good at all. even though he was given the lowdown on exsilium, he feels like he's missing huge pieces. ]

Maybe not, but that voice said that we were gonna reach a planet soon, right? If we are... there's more room to improvise.

[Oh yeah, Riku's missing a lot of pieces. But he's not going to expand on it. Just give a "hm" and move on]

Heh. Yeah, maybe so.

[He stretches some.] I wonder if I should start practicing flying on the shuttles. Never know when it might come in handy.

Probably a good idea. You can never be too prepared, right?

[ one good subject change deserves another. he notes that kaneis isn't elaborating--that's fine. he doesn't mind. he just hopes that these holes don't have to be filled in to understand him. ]
