EVENT MINGLE | Dreadhorses's Formal Ball

Welcome to the biggest party of the season! Grab a date, dress up to the nines, and get ready to party the night away! In other words, it’s a mingle! Feel free to make a top level with any prompts or styles you prefer.

Arrival
There is one open point of access on this asteroid, through Mr. Dreadhorse’s personal docking station. Here, shuttles or ships can dock for the night. There are a couple of points of entry out of the dock and into the actual asteroid, all of them manned by guards who will ask for your invitation to the party, as well as make sure you’re appropriately dressed. Any weapons that can be spotted will be confiscated until you leave, or you will be asked to leave them on your ship. The security searches aren’t too invasive, so if a character has means to hide a weapon, they probably can do so successfully (unless you want them to fail, of course).

Anyone staying back on the ships or barred entry are free to explore the docking area, and they’ll find Mr. Dreadhorse was nice enough to stock the docking area with vending machines you’d find on a way-station and even a slushie machine (flavors come in red and blue).

Dance Hall
Once past the docking station, guests will be escorted through the entryway into the Dance Hall. The place itself is massive, with the place looking like a concert hall and a ballroom combined into one. There’s a stage at the front of the hall, where numerous live bands will play throughout the night. The genres of music vary widely so there’s something for everyone, but there’s one popular song that’ll get played by several bands throughout the night: a song about a band of heroes led by Furiosa, liberating an asteroid from pirates.

Mr. Dreadhorse himself will get on stage and introduce each band, with the same eccentric flair that a rockstar would. Interested passengers with musical talent might be even able to convince Mr. Dreadhorse to let them perform as substitutes for any bands that had to cancel last minute, though they’ll have to prove to him they actually know what they’re doing.

Concert enthusiasts can head to the seating in front of the stage to watch the performances up close. Or if you’re more in the dancing mood, there’s a huge dance floor further away. Don’t worry about not being to hear the music - this place was designed by best acoustics engineers in the system, featuring excellent surround sound and practically perfect coverage.

Food & Drink
What’s a party without refreshments? In a room off to the side of the Dance Hall, partygoers will find a couple of open bars, serving the finest drinks you can find in the system - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The drinks are free, but at each bar, there’s a rather obvious tip jar sitting on the counter. If your character keeps returning to the bar without giving any tips, expect the bartenders to get more passive aggressive.

In another side room, there is a massive buffet of food set up. High quality foods from this system as well as the past couple of systems can be found, all cooked to perfection and placed in a beautiful presentation. Catering staff are constantly bustling about to ensure that the food is fresh, the trays remain full, and everyone is satisfied with the selection.

Between these two side rooms is another, bigger room that connects them, full of tables and places to sit if you’re looking to have a meal or a place to chat. The music can still be heard in this room, but it isn’t so loud that you have to shout to have a conversation. Waitstaff are available to make sure your needs are met, but otherwise, they will remain silent and politely stay off to the side and out of the way. They are all excellent at their jobs, and perhaps you’ll even find that your glass has been refilled before you can even make the request!

Live Entertainment
Looking for something to do besides music? Then head outside of Dance Hall and you’ll find lots of other entertainment options (as well as another open bar and a smaller buffet). There are bioluminescent gardens to walk through, and even a petting zoo full of local animals. Out in the gardens, there’s an outdoor performance stage where theater troupes will be performing different plays all night (including the fleet’s own troupe, who’ll be performing the play “Captain Bree and her Lady Pirates”).

Furthest away from the Dance Hall, you’ll find that Mr. Dreadhorse even has his own personal racetrack, where ATV races are being held throughout the night. Passengers may watch the races, or even take part of one themselves!

Private Spots
This is a crowded party, so it’s expected you might want some privacy. Thankfully, it’s possible for guests to sneak away to numerous nooks and corners all over the place: plenty of hallways, balconies overlooking the gardens, quiet outdoor areas... If you’re looking for somewhere extra private, there just so happens to be an entire wing of Mr. Dreadhorse’s mansion devoted to guest bedrooms. All of them are decorated in a way you’d expect a rock or heavy metal star to decorate a private getaway (circle beds, bold colors and prints, fuzzy stuff, etcetera). They’re free for the taking, but remember to lock the door- other partygoers might get the same idea you have.

[She smiles, somehow managing not to crack the heavy makeup around her eyes. It's not her normal style, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have experience.]

I'll take that as a sign I accomplished what I meant to. [She taps one toe. The heels she's in are tall—sky high, and more comfortable than they look, but still not the best for infiltration. She leans in a little, dropping her voice to a playful whisper.] It's not really your style though, is it?

Formal isn't really my style, but it's not a bad one. [ The suit is a little too flashy, but it looks nice for the occasion. It's a far cry from what he normally wears. ]

Looks better on most people, though.

It might not be your style. [Natasha reaches for his hand, confident without being aggressive. She already has him on the dance floor. She's absolutely going to reel him in for her dance—finally.] But you make it look a lot better than you give yourself credit for.

[ She grabs his hand and he closes the distance, other hand going to her waist. They're here already, they may as well. He can get the dance he owes out of the way, then maybe they can have another. ]

Glad I won't embarrass you by being seen with me, then.

Oh, I never doubted you'd clean up nice.

[She smiles when his hand settles on her waist, a very real contrast to their New Year's Eve dance, his touch... pleasant. She doesn't let herself over think it; she's always liked dancing, and with all the sparring they've been doing, it's no surprise they move well together.

She's comfortable in his space.]

Don't step on my toes, and we can call the night a success.

[The fact they'll be able to manage a theft isn't worth doubting.]

If I step on your toes, my assassin card needs to be revoked.

[ Close like this, they can trade information without others hearing them if they'd like, or simply enjoy the music in silence. This is different than their first dance together. There's more purpose behind it this time, and Bucky can't say he doesn't enjoy it. They spar together frequently enough that dancing is a natural next step. ]

Don't see that happening. [She sighs softly, considering talking about the mission. They should talk about the mission. Plan their next move, at least.

But she likes this. The music isn't what she would have picked for herself, but it's good enough. The rhythm is clear and steady, easy to find the steps to. She doesn't want to hurry into the job.

Not when she's finally getting her dance.]

Stranger things have happened, recently. [ Which doesn't really instill confidence, but they both know better.

The music is in full swing and he sweeps her across the dance floor. It's not as quick a step as the lindy, but it's not a waltz. Not yet. He'd really like to do a slower dance with her, too. If she'll have him. ]

[If the next song is slower, there is a 0% chance of Natasha letting Bucky get away. As fun as this is—and it is fun—that would be too good of an opportunity to let pass.

She lets herself watch it.

Only toward the end of the song does she try to strike the conversation back up.] I'll let you know when we get a signal. If we get separated, where's the rendezvous?

[Her voice is low and playful. Barnes is the only one close enough to hear the words. To anyone else who caught the murmur, it would sound like any flirtation.]

[ It's an easy transition from the upbeat tempo into the much slower meter that follows. ]

The balcony on the east side, over the garden. [ It's public enough that they can blend back into the crowd if pursued. He may have cased the area already. ]

[When the music slows, Natasha moves in closer. Convenient for this kind of conversation. And easy to slide her arms loosely over his shoulders.

She smiles a little at his ready answer.]

I know the one. [He wasn't the only one who studied the terrain.] Good route to the exit.

I was thinking you might.

[ Of course she knows where he's talking about. It wouldn't do either of them any good walking into an unknown area. ]

[She hums thoughtfully, considering what else she should ask him. His thoughts on the security so far. Their way out. But neither of those really seem like a challenge.

Which is troubling in its own right.]

Think they know we're coming?

They'd be foolish not to assume it. Shindig this big and flashy? I'd say they're expecting us.

[ Which means they're going to have a hell of a time finding the information or anything else of value. More fun for them. The risk is definitely a perk. Just means they'll get to stretch their spy legs. ]

[Natasha gives a small smile at that. She doesn't pretend she's not enjoying this, in it's own way. It's exciting, at least, and something familiar to her. Something she knows she can do.

The dancing is pretty nice too.]

Guess we'll just have to be better than they figured we'd be.

[Her tone is very confident.]

You say that like it's going to be a challenge.

[ Of course it's not. Even if it were just the two of them doing this heist, the stakes have been higher before. With more people, the chaos may give them better cover. ]

Maybe it will be. I don't want to underestimate anyone.

[She likes that his confidence matches hers, though. Maybe she should enjoy this less.]

[ What would the fun be in enjoying it less? They don't get chances like this very often, so it makes sense to absolutely make the most of it. ]

Of course not. Being cocky is a way to get yourself killed.

I thought I brought you along to make sure that didn't happen.

[Teasing, as though Natasha can't keep herself out of trouble. Or at least get out of the trouble she gets herself into.]

Oh, you brought me along? Here I was under the impression that I came of my own accord.

[ Granted, she was part of the reason he came, but he can't say no to a party of this extravagance. Seems like tradition, now. If he's here to keep her out of trouble now, he won't complain. ]

[She pulls one of his lapels, pointed in part because of how gentle the tug is. Maybe he did come on his own, but she made sure he looked good. Which is practically the same thing.]

And what's your impression now?

[ His fingers press a little more firmly into her back. ]

I'm staying, aren't I?

[Her back archs slightly at the touch, not trying to escape it but responding as a dancer to her partner. The shift presses her against him.]

When you say it that way, sounds like you're planning to stick around a little longer too.

Well, I don't have any upcoming plans.

[ He's been in the fleet coming up on two years, he doesn't see that changing anytime soon. Not that he wants to, now. ]

[She studies his face, wondering at his answer. And her own response to it. The buoyant feeling in her chest as she dances with him isn't something she wants to consider too closely.]

We could make some, if you wanted.
