EVENT MINGLE | Dreadhorses's Formal Ball

Who: Anyone attending the Ball!
Broadcast: If you’d like.
Action: Orfwyn Dreadhorse’s personal asteroid
When: May 12th - 13th …. 14th if you really like to party.

Welcome to the biggest party of the season! Grab a date, dress up to the nines, and get ready to party the night away! In other words, it’s a mingle! Feel free to make a top level with any prompts or styles you prefer.

Arrival
There is one open point of access on this asteroid, through Mr. Dreadhorse’s personal docking station. Here, shuttles or ships can dock for the night. There are a couple of points of entry out of the dock and into the actual asteroid, all of them manned by guards who will ask for your invitation to the party, as well as make sure you’re appropriately dressed. Any weapons that can be spotted will be confiscated until you leave, or you will be asked to leave them on your ship. The security searches aren’t too invasive, so if a character has means to hide a weapon, they probably can do so successfully (unless you want them to fail, of course).

Anyone staying back on the ships or barred entry are free to explore the docking area, and they’ll find Mr. Dreadhorse was nice enough to stock the docking area with vending machines you’d find on a way-station and even a slushie machine (flavors come in red and blue).

Dance Hall
Once past the docking station, guests will be escorted through the entryway into the Dance Hall. The place itself is massive, with the place looking like a concert hall and a ballroom combined into one. There’s a stage at the front of the hall, where numerous live bands will play throughout the night. The genres of music vary widely so there’s something for everyone, but there’s one popular song that’ll get played by several bands throughout the night: a song about a band of heroes led by Furiosa, liberating an asteroid from pirates.

Mr. Dreadhorse himself will get on stage and introduce each band, with the same eccentric flair that a rockstar would. Interested passengers with musical talent might be even able to convince Mr. Dreadhorse to let them perform as substitutes for any bands that had to cancel last minute, though they’ll have to prove to him they actually know what they’re doing.

Concert enthusiasts can head to the seating in front of the stage to watch the performances up close. Or if you’re more in the dancing mood, there’s a huge dance floor further away. Don’t worry about not being to hear the music - this place was designed by best acoustics engineers in the system, featuring excellent surround sound and practically perfect coverage.

Food & Drink
What’s a party without refreshments? In a room off to the side of the Dance Hall, partygoers will find a couple of open bars, serving the finest drinks you can find in the system - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The drinks are free, but at each bar, there’s a rather obvious tip jar sitting on the counter. If your character keeps returning to the bar without giving any tips, expect the bartenders to get more passive aggressive.

In another side room, there is a massive buffet of food set up. High quality foods from this system as well as the past couple of systems can be found, all cooked to perfection and placed in a beautiful presentation. Catering staff are constantly bustling about to ensure that the food is fresh, the trays remain full, and everyone is satisfied with the selection.

Between these two side rooms is another, bigger room that connects them, full of tables and places to sit if you’re looking to have a meal or a place to chat. The music can still be heard in this room, but it isn’t so loud that you have to shout to have a conversation. Waitstaff are available to make sure your needs are met, but otherwise, they will remain silent and politely stay off to the side and out of the way. They are all excellent at their jobs, and perhaps you’ll even find that your glass has been refilled before you can even make the request!

Live Entertainment
Looking for something to do besides music? Then head outside of Dance Hall and you’ll find lots of other entertainment options (as well as another open bar and a smaller buffet). There are bioluminescent gardens to walk through, and even a petting zoo full of local animals. Out in the gardens, there’s an outdoor performance stage where theater troupes will be performing different plays all night (including the fleet’s own troupe, who’ll be performing the play “Captain Bree and her Lady Pirates”).

Furthest away from the Dance Hall, you’ll find that Mr. Dreadhorse even has his own personal racetrack, where ATV races are being held throughout the night. Passengers may watch the races, or even take part of one themselves!

Private Spots
This is a crowded party, so it’s expected you might want some privacy. Thankfully, it’s possible for guests to sneak away to numerous nooks and corners all over the place: plenty of hallways, balconies overlooking the gardens, quiet outdoor areas... If you’re looking for somewhere extra private, there just so happens to be an entire wing of Mr. Dreadhorse’s mansion devoted to guest bedrooms. All of them are decorated in a way you’d expect a rock or heavy metal star to decorate a private getaway (circle beds, bold colors and prints, fuzzy stuff, etcetera). They’re free for the taking, but remember to lock the door- other partygoers might get the same idea you have.

---------

Looking to steal some stuff? The heist mingle can be found here! The heist itself ICly takes place late into the night and will not disrupt the party, so feel free to have your characters do as they like.

If you have any questions, feel free to direct them over to the OOC post.

[Jack raises his own glass high.] To wandering! To the ones what could make us settle down if we let them catch us!

[A toast.]

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-06-15 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ Something flicks through his eyes, there and gone, grief, and loss, maybe ]

To the never ending road and the open skies. [ He murmurms softly ]
all7seas: (uh...what)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-06-16 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Sheesh now it is apparently Maglor's turn to be a bit melancholy. What a pair. Flatly, but not totally without sympathy:] Your heart got smashed to bits, didn't it.
bythewaves: (alone)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-06-16 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
My own fault.

[ Maglor smiles bitterly at Jack ]

Never swear an Oath, Jack Sparrow. For it will destroy everything you love.
all7seas: (must be 1000 things you would die for)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-06-17 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
[The pirate blinks. Oaths. He knows them well. He's running from one even now. But the kraken can't reach him here. Davy Jones is powerless here.]

Right. I'll never do it, mate. Pirate's honor.
bythewaves: (alone)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-06-18 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sworn oath may break heart" - so said one far wiser than I - alas that it came too late for me. But I hope the warning brings you better fortune than I.
all7seas: (a wild beast with gnashing teeth)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-06-27 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Jack lifts his bottle in the elf's general direction.]

"Broken oaths keep your heart whole and your head on your shoulders." That's what a very great and handsome and devilishly talented sailor of my acquaintance once said.
bythewaves: (alone)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-06-27 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
If you can break them!
all7seas: (just a deckhand)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-06-27 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Of COURSE you can break them! [Maglor gets a look at that.] Why shouldn't you? It's simple!
bythewaves: (turn aside)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-06-27 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Maglor smiles sadly ]

Some Oaths do not let you break them, I am afraid.
all7seas: (seen your flag on the marble arch)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-07-08 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Right. [Jack leans forward, seeing that statement as a sort of challenge.] Name one what can't be broken, and I'll explain how it may be broken. Sort of a specialty of mine, you see.
bythewaves: (Arnold smile)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-07-08 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ He blinks at him and then laughs softly ]

Sadly, unless you can speak to the One Above All, I think this one rather is - by Him we swore, and unless he absolve us, it holds me still, although it is sleeping now, and I hope it remains so.

Well. [ He adds thougthfully ] Since it was my Father who made it, he could also probably unmake it, but he is dead, and the dead can neither make nor unmake, so until he returns to Life, which I doubt will be any time soon...

all7seas: (I support the missionary's position)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-07-11 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Pshh. The dead return to life all the time, mate!

[Jack's unsure who The One Above All refers to, unless maybe King George, and he, of course, is not dead in Jack's time, but perhaps, if he were dead NOW, he could be brought back successfully to unmake Maglor's Father's oath.

It was a thought.]

Besides, dads, you know. They forgive and forget. Mostly.

bythewaves: (lonely)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-07-11 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Not my father. [ Maglor says with a wry smile ]

For what he's done, Mandos will hold him until World's End. Besides, I don't think he'll want to leave the Halls, not with both his mother and father there. And... well. Father is... I don't know. I threw it away, in the end. I don't know if he would forgive that. The father of my youth, yes but... at the end...
all7seas: (so what are you proposing?)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-07-12 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
World's End.

[Okay, he knows Maglor's not talking about THAT World's End, but the two words together in any context still send a shiver down Jack's spine.]

Have you ever tried talking with him? I know he's dead and all, but that doesn't need to be too much of a thwarting-ish state of being. Might not be as bad as you think.
bythewaves: (lost)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-07-12 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ Maglor shrugs ]

I hear him sometimes, in my memory, but I'm fairly sure those were hallucinations. The Halls of the Dead are not for the living, and besides, they are in Valinor, where I cannot come. I don't know, Jack.
all7seas: (dogwatch)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-07-12 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Hold this for a tick, and think about wanting to talk with yer dad.

[Jack holds out his magical Compass That Points To What You Desire Most, not through any particularly strong feeling of generosity, but because this elf did right by his ung, and it would be interesting to see if the compass could point to a method of communication that didn't involve crazy electronics.
bythewaves: (Arnold concern)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-07-12 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Maglor blinks at him confusedly, but obligingly does so.

At which point the compass, because Maglor's life sucks like that, will obligingly swivel to point West. ]
all7seas: (Pirata Codex)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-07-12 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
What's it say, then?
bythewaves: (i suppose)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-07-13 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
West.

[ Maglor's smile is wry ]

Not surprising. West, across the Sundering Sea, to the shores of Valinor, where I cannot go.
all7seas: (freaking compass)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-07-15 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Maglor, Jack is really going to have to work with you on the "places you can and cannot go" thing. Nothing's off-limits.]

We've got a Sundering Sea where I'm from as well. No elves, though. Mermaids -- yes. Also? Sea monsters.

But I bet the Black Pearl could cross your sea and make it West...
bythewaves: (hm?)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-07-15 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sure she could, but you're mortal, Jack - the Undying Lands are as barred to you as they are to me. You would wander in the Isles or fall to their enchantments, or founder on the reefs. I'll not have your life on my hands, there's blood enough there already!
all7seas: (you're believing this right?)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-07-26 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Nonsense! [Jack might be getting sort of drunk by this point. His mannerisms are more grandiose, speech more slurred.] Your hands are sparkly clean. Your conscience is clearer than a Caribbean lagoon under a full moon! To the Undying Lands, and getting there!

[He raises his bottle to this terrible idea.]
bythewaves: (Arnold grin)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-07-26 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ Maglor laughs softly at him ]

You, my friend, are quite quite drunk, and now I believe I can say I out-drank a pirate. Believe me when I say my hands are far from clean! But I had best get you someplace to sleep this off, I think.
all7seas: (being the captain)

[personal profile] all7seas 2017-07-26 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
But don't try anything, savvy? I onlyliketheladies.

[Yup. REALLLLLY slurry.]
