i know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
( for N-Z characters )
Before you post your toplevel comment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. N-Z names comment here, and A-M names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your comment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

I like that I can't feel how cold it is.
[He glanced back, able to see both the villages again.]
So, you don't mind me being here?
no subject
[NO OFFENCE OR ANYTHING, PAL. He smiles and shrugs.]
Nah, it's cool. I like this place.
[It's COMPLICATED, but he still loves it. ]

2/2
What's with the two villages?
[He recognized the Blue Fish, so he had a feeling what that was. He could be horribly wrong, but... eh.]
no subject
[Sokka's brow furrows. ]
One is the village I lived in as a kid, the other is how it is now. After the war.

[Way to state the obvious there, Keith.]
I guess it's better, yeah? [Though, Sokka's reaction didn't make it seem like it was.]
no subject
It's progress. It means our tribe will finally have a place in the world, be taken seriously...but I'm not sure if it's a completely 'better' thing, either.
no subject
Why not?

[Keith was a little confused.]

So, even if it's helping, and it's progress... it's still losing your identity.
I guess I kind of get what they're doing, because they're going with what they know and helping out, but, at the same time, they're sort of just running all over what makes you guys... well, you.
I can see how that would be pretty frustrating.

[He glances over at the city, brows furrowed. ]
The Southern Water Tribe we grew up in was a war-torn mess. The war lasted a hundred years. No one alive remembers how we actually used to be, in peace. Whatever we're becoming now, it's...something different. but honestly, our true identity was lost a century ago when the Fore Nation started wiping us out.
no subject
That's rough, buddy. That must be hard.
[He considered what he'd seen.]
So, that one guy... with the scar. I guess he's from the Fire Nation. That explains why you resented him at first.
[And why the other teen had seemed to partially accept the resentment. Keith felt that. He hadn't pushed back against Allura's anger towards him over the Galra thing because, well, he could understand why, even if it hurt.]
no subject
[He smiles, and it's fond. ]
Eventually, he realised he didn't want his father's acceptance. That it was more important to do the right thing and help stop the war. He's Fire Lord now. Working for a better world, to undo the mistakes his Nation made.

[After all, Keith had a feeling the Blade of Marmora was going to have a similar task ahead of them... fighting against their own kind, and trying to repair the damage while people hate them simply because they're the same as the ones who caused all the problems in the first place.
It was something that he'd almost been a target of himself, and he was nervous as a result. Allura's reaction had set a thought process in his head. How was he supposed to work for Voltron if word ever got out about his heritage? Would people be so willing to accept their help if that happened?
He was nervous.]

[Sokka's tone is fond, all the same. Zuko's a pain in the ass, but he's a brother and Sokka would do anything for him. Sokka feels Zuko is living proof that anyone can change for the better, if they so chose. Pick the path that's best for as many people as they could. He'd heartily say the same applied to Keith. ]
So. Is there anything else you'd want to see?
no subject
[Keith gave Sokka a small smirk.]
Maybe what your village used to be before it became some big city?
no subject
[Where he doesn't have to make any decisions about anything \o/ ]
But you're welcome to go check it out.

[If Sokka didn't mind... Keith managed to position himself correctly so he could head into the small village now.]

A: A necklace, placed carefully in the snow.
B: A battle helmet, shaped like a wolf's head and made of hardened leather
C: A minature iceberg. It's unnaturally round. And glowing.
D: A circle of stones around a larger one
E: A pond, something seems to be swimming in it. ]

The memory starts with the iceberg. The iceberg, you and a young girl. The iceberg glows, and suddenly a boy with arrows on his head and arms emerges. You don't trust him, you don't like him. Something is dangerous about him and you absolutely know he'll be dangerous for the girl.
The memory switches, swirls, memories flicker too fast to keep track. The arrow boy keeps appearing, laughing, crying, having quiet moments of solace. The feelings grow from distrust to mild annoyance, to eventually a strong bond, something you could only call family. The memory switches once more, and sticks.
You are sitting on a hill, a wolf-helm in your hands, staring out at a fleet of wooden ships. A feeling of unworthiness festers in your stomach like a lead weight. The boy with the arrow on his head lands beside you from his air glider.
"We've been looking everywhere for you," he says. "The boats are ready to leave."
"I...messed up, Aang," you say.
"...What?" Aang responds, confused.
"The invasion plan was my moment of truth," you look at the helm, frowning. "And I completely flubbed it. I just...fell apart."
"Sokka," Aang puts a hand on your shoulder. "That speech wasn't your moment of truth. That was just public speaking, and nobody's really good at that."
"My dad is!" you respond. "He explained the plan perfectly and inspired everyone. Like a real leader should."
"Look," Aang drops his hand, staring out at the sea with you. "Your moment of truth isn't gonna be in front of some map. It's gonna be out there, on the battlefield. "
"You seem so confident about everything," you say, turning to him. "How do you know we're gonna win?"
"Because I already failed the world once at Ba Sing Se," he replies. "I won't let myself fail again."
And with that, the memory flickers and fades out.

He'd head back out to the Blue Fish sculpture.]
