Oh.

[Shinji seriously hates the fact his cheeks are getting warmer right now. It's always strange for him to find out he has something in common with somebody else. He feels like such a huge freak, usually. Unique in the worst possible way.]

Yeah, it's my... I guess you could call it my hobby, but it's more than that. I've been looking up at the stars for as long as I can remember. [He glances back at her, squinting a little.] When'd you get interested in astronomy? [he asks.]

Mm... when I was little, we lived out in the country, and Daddy and me would go out stargazing sometimes. We were kinda broke all the time, so we couldn't afford to do anything fancy, but Daddy would say, "why do we need to go to the movies when space is right up there?" We built a telescope with some supplies he got from work, and we'd look at the sky for hours and hours. I love how pretty it is, and how every single light is a whole different place from where we are now. It's so amazing...

[That story is so special, so straight-from-the-heart, that Shinji doesn't know what to say about it afterward. In a hushed voice, he offers this much:] Oh, that sounds great... [And he looks skyward, too, as if he's trying to imagine himself in her position, doing something like that with his own father. Which would never happen in a million, billion years. Honestly, with any lucky, he'll never see his father again. Maybe he's a little bit jealous of her, but he's also glad she got to have that sort of experience as a child.]

... I ordered my first telescope out of the back of a magazine. It took forever to save up for it. There wasn't too much light pollution at my guardian's place, so I had a pretty good view of things from the backyard. And even without a telescope, the stars were always there for me, whenever I looked at them. No matter how crazy things got otherwise.

Ahhh... that sounds wonderful. I kind of wish we had one here- it would've been cool to look at Hawaii's stars with a telescope.

Yeah, it would've been. At least the sky is really clear tonight... [He's a little hesitant to ask, just because he might be getting even more personal (and that can be scary), but he asks it anyway:] Hey, what's your favorite constellation?

My favourite? Mm...

[She mulls it over for a long moment; favourites don't always factor in, she just kind of loves the sky overall. But if she had to choose...]

I've always liked Aquila. It looks kind of like a giant arrow pointing up... like it's fighting gravity, too.

[It's got a meaningful kind of resonance to it, really, considering her powers.]

And it's a bird! If I could pick any other Quirk, I might like wings. Then I could really fly.
