i know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
( for N-Z characters )
Before you post your toplevel comment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. N-Z names comment here, and A-M names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your comment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

[He realised, after everything, there is something he wants her to see. ]
I mean, there is one place you might wanna check out. It- uh, it's not a fun memory but it might help you, I dunno? [Help her with her own losses, he doesn't know. ] It's a pool. In the village.
no subject
Sure.
[At least this feels less like an intrusion, since he's offering it to her. She walks back down to the village, searching for the mentioned pool. When she finds what she thinks must be it, she approaches, touching the water line with the edge of her boot.]

You are no longer in the South Pole. You're now in some kind of oasis, though it's hard to see. The moon has gone from the sky, everything around you is drenched in an unnatural darkness. It's clear something awful has happened. You all sit by the pool, staring at the white koi, dead in the hands of an old man. The black one is nowhere to be seen. A girl with white hair sits beside you, heartbroken, her blue eyes the only colour left in the world. You feel for her, with every ounce of your heart and soul, you really feel for her.
"It's too late, says another girl. "It's dead."
The old man between you all looks up from his sorrow, at the white haired girl beside you.
"You have been touched by the moon spirit," he remarks. "Somehow, it's life is in you."
"Yes, you're right," she responds. "It gave me life. ...Maybe I can give it back."
She goes to stand, you reach out and take her hand. Fear, horrible, gut-wrenching fear and dread swirl into the memory, digging in like claws.
"No!" you say, holding her hand tight, desperate not this, please not this. "You don;t have to do that."
"It's my duty, Sokka," she replies gently.
"I won't let you!" your hand grips a little tighter. "Your father told me to protect you."
"I have to do this," and with that, she pulls her hand free, stepping forward.
You hand reaches for her again, but she does not take it. Instead, she places her hands on the dead koi. Please no, no no no. The fish glows, as the girl closes her eyes. Something flows between them, and then, suddenly, the light is gone. The girl drops like a stone, but you step behind her to catch her, to kneel down and hold her in your arms. You scream out a no, but you barely even realise it. She's dead. She has no heartbeat. You feel everything crumbling in around you.
"She's gone," your voice comes out in a whisper, as you hold her body close. "She's gone."
And then...she is gone. He body vanishes around your arms, into nothingness. The dead koi begins to glow, and the old man puts it carefully into the water. It begins to swim around again, in a circle, you watch, helpless as ever, not truly understand what is happening but knowing your heart aches all the same. The pond glows, and the girl reappears, ethereal. She's not human any more. Not mortal. She's a spirit. The spirit of your first love floats near to you.
"Goodbye, Sokka. I will always be with you."
She presses a kiss to your lips. It's strange, you can feel it, but at the same time...you can't. You reach out to her, but she's already vanished into the sky...and then the moon returns. She takes her place in the cosmos and takes the mantel. Colour returns to the world, but the memory fades around you. Once again, you are staring at the pond, with the slowly swimming koi. It seems part of the calibration has opened, offering up a door for her to exit through when she's ready.

But this? This wrenches her heart, even as no stranger to it. A part of her thinks for a moment it's Suki, but... no, it can't be. Even Sokka couldn't have kept up the facade of her being alive and well for so long; eventually, something would have slipped. This is someone else entirely, someone he's never spoken about to her, and perhaps not even the others. Not that she could blame him; speaking of a love lost couldn't be easy. She's seen that struggle with Fergus, and many others. It's one she prays every day she won't experience.
When the memory ends, she stands there for awhile, trying to collect herself. She sees the door open, but she doesn't go through it yet. Not until she talks to Sokka. Muted, she climbs back towards him, struggling with the words to say as she approaches him. Nothing comes to her. All she can do is pull him into a hug and wrap her arms around him fiercely, protectively, even.
I'm so sorry.]

He returns that hug tightly taking a in a shuddery breath, trying to resit the urge to cry. He won't not here. He finds a centre, an anchor back in reality. It's been so long now, since he lost her, and it surprises him how deep that wound still is. He doubts he'll ever really heal from it. ]
...Sorry. I- I know it's a sucky one. But I wanted you to know.
no subject
[Because he trusted her enough with this, and because she knew that it must have been incredibly hard for him to ask her. That's one that's going to stay with her. Well, they all would, but that one especially. A lot of what happened in it confuses her - what the balls happened to their moon?! - but she's not going to get into that here or now.]
What was her name? [She asks it as she lets him go and steps back. She figures that's a good place to start.]
no subject
[That is another long and complex story that can be summed up in "the fucking Fire Nation" as can most of his stories.
He lets out a shaky exhale, hugging his arms around himself a little. Yeah. Still a deep, deep wound. ]
Yue. She was the princess of the Northen Water Tribe.
no subject
[Still playing to the safe subjects, and that's likely where she'll stay, unless Sokka offers more.]
no subject
Yeah. Katara and Aang needed to find a Waterbending Master to teach them more. Katara only knew the basics and all the Waterbenders of my tribe were- well. Y'know. So we went to the North Pole to find someone to teach them.
I saw Yue and it was legitimately love at fist sight. I would have laughed at that before then, but-
no subject
Funny how certain people can change pre-conceived notions so quickly, isn't it? She sounds lovely. Was she the one who taught them?
no subject
[He shakes his head. ]
No, she wasn't a bender. She was lovely, though. Also betrothed to someone else, so-
no subject
Oh dear. I imagine that made things a hair complicated.

[If Sokka sounds mad, it's because he absolutely is still mad. It's been years, he's still mad. He'll always be mad. He'll be mad until the day he dies. Fuck you, Hahn.]

[He's not afraid or ashamed to admit it. ]
No. She...might of had to, if she hadn't-
[He exhales, rubbing the back of his head. ]
She would always put her people- everyone first. That's why she did what she did. Everything would have been lost, otherwise. She gave her earthly life up to become the moon spirit. That's...that's what happened. She's not- she's dead, but she's also...not? I can't see her any more, but Aang's spoken to her once in a while. She's...okay. Doing moon spirit things.
Also probably glad she never had to marry that jackass.
once more, for realzies
It's just like the Fade, though people don't just become spirits like that. And while she might not be dead, she's gone. There's not much getting around that.]
That's certainly one way to avoid a terrible marriage. [If she was going for joking, it falls flat. Even she can't quite muster up the humor.] Does Suki know about her?
you tease
...Yeah, she knows. I mean, I met Suki before Yue. We just didn't get together til...after.
u love it
Thank you for telling me about her. If you ever want to talk more, I'll listen, but I won't push you more right now. I should probably give you and your head some privacy.
I do I do
Sure thing. I'd like that. To talk more about her.
no subject
[She gives him another hug.]
I'll see you in the morning.
no subject
Of course. See you tomorrow, Riona.
