'cause it's better than nothing
( for N-Z characters )
Before you post your toplevel comment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. N-Z names comment here, and A-M names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your comment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

Prompto raises a hand, but doesn't make to move or even look back.]

What's out there?
no subject
[He sighs, leans forward over his knees.]
Parts of it, anyway. Those are MT. [He nods to the soldiers marching in their perfect rows.] Magitek troopers. [He hesitates, left hand closing around the opposite wrist.] I was supposed to be one.
no subject
How did you get away from them?
no subject
[He fiddles with the clasp of his bracelet.]
I don't know who, or why. I don't know how I got to Insomnia. I don't know if my parents were involved, or how much they knew about where I came from, or if it had anything to do with them adopting me.
[The bracelet falls away and he holds up his wrist, the barcode clear and black against his pale skin.]
All I had was this.
no subject
It's frustrating when your parents won't tell you something, isn't it?
[His tone had darkened a bit, sharper than usual. He mentally shook it off, pushing forward.]
Maybe they just didn't know, and couldn't tell you.
[That seemed better than just keeping the truth hidden from him all the time, right? Though, Keith thought back to last calibrations... the image of chubby young Prompto and his parents encouraging that kind of eating. He couldn't help but wonder if they'd been trying to keep him that way so people wouldn't suspect he was made to be a soldier.
Keith was also pretty sure that had already occurred to Prompto, though, and Keith kept the thought to himself for now.]

[He straps the bracelet back on with a hard exhale.]
We weren't very close. I wasn't always sure they even wanted a kid? Which...That's weird, right? It wasn't like an accidental pregnancy or anything. They had to sign papers!
I guess it doesn't matter, anyway. It's not like I'm ever going to learn what happened.
no subject
Uh, yeah... definitely weird. [There were several attempts to set Keith up in a family environment, but it just never worked out, and he always ended up back in some sort of children's home. He supposed it was better than being somewhere that you didn't feel wanted.]
Maybe... maybe someday. [He managed a weak smile.] It took me almost 20 years to find out what happened with my mom. Sometimes, it just takes a while.
no subject
He could have never made it out of Niflheim.
He ducks his head.]
Nah. Pretty sure anyone who could tell me something is dead now.
...It's okay, though. I wanted to know what the bar code meant, and look what happened there? It's probably better not to know.
no subject
Yeah. Maybe. Ultimately, it's up to you if you want to go looking. If you don't, then that's okay, too.
[He managed a small smile, then looked back towards the fire.]
Mind if I take a look at your camera?
no subject
Knock yourself out.
[As soon as the camera is in hand, Keith will find himself in the Regalia - the king's own convertible, hood down and warm sun shining down as it speeds along the dusty highway. There are four young men sharing the vehicle, Prompto among them, in the front passenger seat, gazing at the passing scenery with wide-eyed wonder. He suddenly swivels around to turn pleading eyes on Noctis in the backseat.]
Dude! Just saw the perfect photo spot. Can we stop?
[Noct raises his eyes to catch those of Ignis, who is driving, in the rearview. He sits up from his slouch, and nods. "Yeah, sure," he says.
Iggy heaves a small sigh, but no more than that, and performs a U-turn back to the overlook they just passed. Prompto throws his arms up the air.] Woohoo!
[The car barely stops before he's leaping out and bouncing around looking for the perfect shot, and then herding his friends together for a group photo. They all humor him with poses and smiles. There's a feeling of companionship and happiness.]
no subject
You have good friends.
[Watching them do all that, when originally none of them really wanted to, was nice. And it looked like they'd all had fun anyway, which was always a bonus.]
no subject
[It's a good memory, though it makes him wistful, and a little sad.]
I miss them.

It's also stupid hot and crowded as Noctis leads the way down narrow cobblestone streets to the hotel, with its fans and glorious shower.
Prompto, enamored by the ladies coming off their shifts, some of them with arms thicker than his, feels the need to pipe up.
Noctis paps him on the back of the head and the scene ends as they trek onward.]
no subject
Man... sometimes I wonder if you and Lance are the same person.
no subject
Nah. I couldn't be that tall if I tried.
no subject
Are they waiting for something?
no subject
[They'll always be there on the edge of his mind.]
Back home, drop ships would bring them around. Sometimes dump them right on top of us.
no subject
[Keith looked concerned. There was a lot that Keith didn't know about where Prompto came from, even with having gone through two calibrations with him. But, he knew things were tough.]
no subject
[He shrugs.]
They're pretty creepy up close. [More so, now that he knew what they were.]
no subject
[Keith gave Prompto a small smirk.]
no subject
Thanks, dude.
