That's a pretty big demand. You don't even know how long you're gonna sleep, and you want me to just wait around for you?

[He suspects he know what Sorey really means. Be there. Be... around.

Stay alive. Don't despair.

He knows that would be... pretty easy, given everything that's happened, all that he's lost. And considering all of the older, much more experienced seraphim who became corrupted by malevolence while waiting for something to happen. The last thing he wants is to be the cause of more suffering, to become a problem the others have to deal with. To soak in more malevolence that Sorey is sleeping to purify. He's gone down that path already, and... never again. He knows what to look for, now.

Shifting closer, he rests his head on Sorey's shoulder.]

...I promise. When you wake up, we'll see each other again.

[Perhaps it's just Mikleo's imagination, but Sorey might feel just a touch warmer when he lays his head down.

The room around them darkens, the floor takes on the texture of old, gritty stone. In the light that seems to pool around Sorey like water, the deep shadows of distant statues and carvings line far off walls that seem to move and melt back into the darkness when stared at for too long.]





I'm selfish.

[The light dims.]

You were so brave talking about it that night. I wanted to reassure you. Maybe I was just being a coward.

I miss you.




I want to see you.

[Mikleo untangles his hand, briefly, to flick the sleeping Sorey's forehead.]

See me in your dreams. That's appropriately romantic, isn't it?

[It feels incomplete, to leave it like that, but Sorey already knows so much of what's in his heart, and the same goes in reverse. Any reassurances he could have given Mikleo that night were conveyed when they'd shared a glance, when they bumped forearms, when they'd accepted one another's decisions for the future- Mikleo chose to risk his life to free Maotelus, and Sorey decided to close himself off as a vessel. What more would there have been to say?

It's not like any words could have made it better, anyway.]
