Well... shit. [That had been unexpected.] Didn't know she had a kid. [He felt this bad leaving Rin back home. How much worse must it be to have left such a young kid from... where ever that place was.]

[Surprise. It's an answer from behind him, a short distance. Makie is sitting casually on one of the crates in the hold, wearing a dark, flowing peasant dress that is very decidedly not Japanese.]

Lilly is her own creature. That she chooses to stay with me is a gift.

Hm. You both seem better off for it. [A beat while he folds his arms into his sleeves.] Sorry that she ain't here.

[She smiles briefly at that.] She was, for a time. But I think perhaps she is happier where she can see the sun, not trapped in these metal boxes.

But you're right. We are better off, having met each other.

Hm. [What else is there to say to that, really?] So, we're in your head then? [He's slowly catching on to what's happening here.] Where's the exit? [For some reason he wasn't comfortable with the idea of poking around in Makie head. It felt like cheating in some way.]

It's here somewhere, I believe. [Makie feels the same way about intruding on others, though she doesn't much care what people see in her dreams. She shrugs with a casualness she'd never have shown in Edo.]

Look for a door that stands out. Or find it through memory. Either should suffice.

A door that stands out? [Seems safer than going around touching memories hoping for an exit.

Manji scans the area and if he can't see a door that stands out he'll head back out of the ship.]

[There's a door further into the interior of the ship-- the one leading out of the cargo bay. It does, however, look like the usual exit. He can go through it or return to his starting point.]

[Manji will decide to take the new door instead of going back the way he came]

[While it's the usual door, it doesn't seem to lead to the usual place-- the corridor is here, but apart from the open threshold to the kitchen, other exits from the main hallway are absent. There are two pictures hanging in this hallway.

One is of Makie and Anotsu, and it is much larger than the second one.

The second one... is of Makie and Manji. Distinctly not at each other's throats.]
