[ what was that robot's name again anyway? ultra? uproar? something ridiculous, loki is sure of it. either way, this is the most blatant bit of manipulation loki has ever seen. ]

Most visitors look around like idiots for a while before they approach one of the stations.

[ loki shrugs. ]

I have some experience with the mental plane.

[ he knows that there are traps and memories, that it's not always what it appears. ]

[The spark spirals down further, as if inspecting Loki while still saying out of immediate lunge range.]

I wonder why you feel the need to tamper with this kind of power. He is soft-hearted, but he could still destroy you.

I have been destroyed many times over. And I am still here.

[ loki glances at the blue spark, grimly bemused. ]

And I doubt he'll live long enough to destroy me.

So sure of yourself, Asgardian. You're lucky he has no idea how to properly use the Stone.

[ loki sighs. he should really be digging into the code. That is not luck. That is deliberate ignorance. he turns his attention back to the files. even if they're not useful right now, they might be worth noting. ]

It is not luck. He chooses deliberate ignorance in order to chase after mortal fantasies. He plays at being unique, but wishes for acceptance and thus, curtails his own abilities.

[ also if vision wants to destroy him . . . well, good luck with that because thor will be pissed. ]

[The spark fades as Loki concentrates on the files. It's a much more direct path than the other visitors have taken, whether because of their politeness or their general lack of experience in this kind of place. There's a firewall protecting a fairly large amount of information marked as "Private", but the rest is clearly indexed - regrets and shame, a cluster of data for Loki and another for Thor, and one pertaining to the Mind Stone itself.]

[ perfect. finally something useful. loki first chooses the information on the mind stone. ]

[He'll find quite a lot of information, beginning with information from outside sources (rumors and speculation), then observations of its known uses before the Vision's time. These include all documented cases of Loki using the staff, Strucker's experiments on Wanda and Pietro and the others, and Ultron's use of it as well. Finally there are firsthand observations, and this is where the bulk of the information is. Dimensions. Energy output. The way it interacts with the Vision's vibranium-enhanced body to impart abilities. Times when it's fluctuated and possible causes (one of them is earmarked with a confirmation: it had behaved in a unique fashion when the Time Stone was awakened on Earth). Investigations into its structure: he's concluded here that it's a crystallized form of pure energy (which would seem to defy the laws of physics as Earth understands them, but it's still the best answer they have). It's affected most easily by energy that has a similar power signature, duplicated under extreme lab conditions or very easily by Wanda Maximoff choosing to apply her ability of energy manipulation in a specific fashion.

It's a lot to go through, and it's not collected anywhere under a nice header or a scientific abstract or anything, but the information is all there for the taking.]

[ energy manipulation. that's the way to crack it. and loki — loki could do that. there might be a way. or get someone else to do it. but it's good, it means the stones can be destroyed. something thor could use later on.

moving on, he looks at the files on thor. ]

[These memories come with an extra side-benefit of emotional warmth, so enjoy that. They start with the Vision waking up, because his very first memory is Thor's magic running through his systems and connecting everything together. And then a few very intense moments of compilation while he determines who he is, and then returning Thor's weapon to him.

After that it's the fight against Ultron, and a few days back at the compound before Thor is taken by the rainbow bridge. After that, the memories pick up again much later here in the Fleet, and those are mostly camaraderie, catching up, and that recent discussion where Thor had been deeply troubled after his most recent visit home.

All in all, it's a fairly small file, but clearly important to the owner.]

Foolish.

[ what possessed him to do such a thing? was this . . . ultra robot that stark created that much of a threat? no, most likely the avengers are just bad at their job as always. loki scoffs. what joy is there in creating life only to know you've doomed it? disgusted, he moves away. there's nothing of value here. ]

[The same point in protecting humanity when you know they're doomed, probably. But if Loki can't see that, this room isn't going to hold much of value beyond what he's already seen; nearly all of the Vision's best memories are of transient things, beauty lost but remembered.

On the other hand, if he does wish to leave, there's a door now where there wasn't before.]

[ he wonders if that homicidal robot is still hanging around. or whether thor knows that some ghost of it exists in this mind-space. you'd think that'd be important. either way, he's got what he wanted. time to exeunt. ]
