'cause it's better than nothing
( for N-Z characters )
Before you post your toplevel comment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. N-Z names comment here, and A-M names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your comment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

[He waves his hand to indicate the cave around them.]
This is your room.

[He thinks about it, looking about the room to try and figure out what would trigger someone to just leave here]
It's my room.. [He mutters in thought]
Perhaps, perhaps it's the Batcave, it's not really my room but maybe if I show you a memory that started me here? It's an old one. Not actually that nice I'm afraid.
[He goes over to rifle through the folders until he finds a photo which he brings over. There are two families posed in the photo. A man and woman dressed in sparkling outfits of green, red and yellow which are clearly made for some kind of performance. They bracket the other couple who are dressed well for an evening out but are clearly here to watch rather than perform. Bent on one knee is an older boy holding what is clearly a much younger Tim on his knee while they both smile for the camera.]

[He steps closer to him, looks down at the photo. Reaching out, he lightly touches it with his fingers.]

The night had almost come to a standstill before it had even started when Jack Drake; Tim's father had discovered he had simply forgotten his wallet at home when it had come to pay for their entry. They had been very lucky that the one and only Bruce Wayne had been behind them in the line. In one of his frequent acts of generosity, he had paid for the whole audience's tickets that night.
Now his parents have approached a family of performers for a chance of a photograph with them. They are John and Mary Grayson and their son Dick; they are acrobats by trade the stars of this particular circus. They are all too happy to acquiesce to the request and the tiny little version of Tim is given to Dick to pose.
Tim is entranced by the boy in front of him. Dressed in a green and red material which sparkles under the lights, the bright yellow cape just seems the match Dick's sunny smile as he places Tim on his knee.
"Tim, say cheese!" The flash of the camera goes off but the world seems to have narrowed to just Dick for Tim.
"Watch me on the trapeze Tim! I'm going to do my act especially for you tonight" Dick ruffles at the boy's hair and is off, "Be good now!"
The rest of the night is a blur in Tim's memory. He barely remembers anymore of the circus until The Grayson's act is announced. Koga can feel the wonder as he watches the family take to the art, performing dangerous aerialist feat after another. Tim's eyes don't leave them for a second. They certainly don't blink through the Grayson famous Quadruple Somersault trick, something only this family has ever been able to succeed at.
However, this also means that when the safety net is removed for their final trick. When the rope breaks while John and Mary Grayson are out on the trapeze; when their bodies fall and their screams are cut off by a thud as they hit the ground, only for the screams of the crowd to take over.
Tim sees every second.
But as his parents try to rush them for the exit, as people scream and push and panic, Tim also watches as a lone boy seconds ago so full of joy and light kneels alone with the bodies of his parents. He also sees a dark ominous shape appear from the shadows and shield the boy with his cape, and provide a comfort that no one else seems to notice. He sees a myth of their city, said to be a symbol of fear and danger, kneels down and comforts a child.

But a symbol is something to be remembered. Even years later.
He can understand why Tim would remember it even now.]
