[ the feed splutters before turning on. loki is surrounded by a whole bunch of boxes. boxes as far as the eye can see. loki has started opening them while the speakers blast this song loud and clear. loki, for his part merely huffs. ]

It seems I have spent a total of a year in this place and the, ah, viewers wish to celebrate. However most of this is useless to me, so I welcome anyone else taking them into their hands.

[ which, ngl, he's into. but the gifts loki has are just . . . baffling. he holds each one up to the camera. we have the mighty thor scooter, captain chickmerica, loki on hotwheels, a masterpiece, plastic horns, disturbing panties and something for "sophisticated men" ]

Also, this has reminded me. Since we are essentially living by this . . . awkward mortal calendar, I have decided I want a birthday. You lot should help me pick one.

Lemmings actually don't go jumping off cliffs, actually. It's a misconception that some documentaries put out. Disney actuall- [No one cares, Steve. You're the only one who uses Netflix for their educational shows.]

Rams, at least, are not ineffectual by nature. As comparisons go, it is not terrible.

What is up with the horns, anyways? You go running around ramming people?

I beat you. And then purposefully gave up when Stark arrived, remember? If you think victory in New York came from you, you're sorely mistaken.

And they're part of our aesthetic.

[Steve enjoys the reaction that got though.]

Thor doesn't have horns.

[ loki huffs, crossing his arms. ]

Thor has a winged helmet. You've simply never seen it.

Wings aren't horns. Unless Asgard is very different from Earth...

[ he hums, his voice taking on a lighter cadence, one of a story-teller. ]

My point is that we adorn our helmets with some form of animal characteristic. Thor had wings, I had horns. Our sister had some form of antlers. It is traditional.

Hm. Did you pick the horns for any reason?

Horns are less . . . traditional by nature.

So I chose to be different.

[Steve smirks, showing that he's just teasing.]

Let me guess. If I had a helmet you'd put chicken wings on it. [He'd had a helmet with wings already so he feels about half there.]

[ a slow drawl. ]

Why would I need to? Those tiny wings on your cap seem chicken-like enough already.

Is that what you'd pick for me?

[He leans back, relaxed and amused now. Let's forget these stupid presents.]

C'mon. You could pick anything. What would you?

[ a long pause. ]

A wolf.

[brooklyn_boy]

[That surprises him. Steve grins, appreciating what seems like an honest answer instead of a tease. His head cocks to the side, considering this answer. He never would have thought about a wolf.]

Can I ask why?

[ loki hesitates before replying, soft. ]

I think that as much as you value companionship and the pack, you feel disconnected with the people around you.

[Steve's smile fades. Loki isn't wrong. He hit the nail right on the head, actually. Steve's just surprised to have it laid out so plainly.]

That's...[A shaky exhale and humorless chuckle.] Man out of time... Yeah.
