Before you post your topcomment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names comment here, and N-Z names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your topcomment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.

"She's worth something to me," Shawn persists, almost snorting at their behavior. Wow, this was definitely like the guys who said he'd never make it out of the trailer park. Just like them, using their dumb rhetoric on him like it would make him think twice about who he chose to spend his time with--

"If that's the case, man, then she would've said different stuff to me. I don't hang out with Max because she says stuff just to agree with me. Trust me, if she did? I would've peaced out a long time ago."

There's a hand on Shawn's shoulder. "It's all right, dude."

That hand is Max's. It looks like his argument has, at least, been able to garner her attention, and she's made her way over.

"Yeah, she knows it's all true."

"More like I know you're all full of shit. You're not even all that good at this."

Shawn breathes a sigh of relief as he turns to look at her. "Not really. You can't let them get away with insulting you. I would've let a comment about your art slide, but..."

People could be fickle about art. People could criticize the photographs and even that large statue, and he'd understand. He wouldn't have liked it, but he would've understood.

"Seriously, if you're gonna insult her, come up with something slightly more plausible than the harbinger of death."

"Well, thanks for sticking up for me. It's nice to know that I have a friend here that has my back." She gives Shawn a genuine smile.

Even if being the harbinger of death isn't too far from the truth.

He smiles in return, though it doesn't quite reach his eyes.

"No problem. I uh, I saw some of your photographs. They were really great - and totally worth having an entire exhibit." His smile grows more genuine. "I'm just sorry they don't agree."
