Sweet dreams are made of these...

[ Calibration Rooms ]
( for A-M characters )
Before you post your topcomment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names comment here, and N-Z names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your topcomment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

The photographs are hung up on the walls in tasteful arrangements, just as in a real art gallery. Whoever's mind this is, they apparently know art good enough to mimic that much.

The museum visitors make a few comments around each one, though their voices are muffled unless you're paying close attention - just enough to be considered background noise. Also, it seems that almost all of the pictures seem to have been taken in the same town that's outside of the museum - whatever town this is, it must mean a lot to this photographer.

The smaller photographs seem innocuous enough, but the larger ones, the ones that have been blown up, seem to have a different quality to them. And the closer somebody gets to one, the more the background noises - voices, music - seem to fade away.

Which one is Alex going to check out first?

    A. A shot of the outside of a school - an old, brick building that looks traditional and dignified, although there's an intensity, as if something's about to happen. ((Ep 2 spoilers, suicide))
    B. A shot of a short-haired punk girl holding a gun in a junkyard. ((Ep 2 spoilers, gun injury))
    C. A photograph of two girls, one of them obviously her shipmate Max, relaxing in an indoor pool at night. ((Ep 3 spoilers))
    D. A shot of a different short-haired girl, covered in paint. ((Ep 1 spoilers))
    E. The other girl from the pool picture, standing with a playful expression. ((Ep 2 spoilers))
    F. A beach with a number of beached whales, lifeless in the sun. ((Ep 4 spoilers))
    G. A shot of a large amount of medical equipment, cold and impersonal. ((Ep 4 spoilers, injury, suicide))

    H. Or choose the smart option and ignore these photos, something seems off about them.

[Alex immediately recognizes Max in this photo, and stops in front of it. At least now she knows whose dream she's in. Whomever the girl with her crewmate is, Alex finds herself drawn in by her a bit. She's definitely a little jealous of that awesome hair, and the tattoo, and she squints a little as she gets closer.]

The picture seems to come to life as Alex gets closer to it, the background noises fading out to be replaced with the sounds of splashing water.

"Why look, an otter in my water!" the blue-haired girl says playfully, quickly moving into a bad rendition of the Jaws theme.

Max scoffs. "You are so obvious... and I still get freaked out by that movie, so stop!" She splashes the other girl, prompting a small screech from the other girl. "I can't even watch any of those shark shows."

The two splash each other for a while, before Max chimes in again. "I'll just rewind and harpoon you. Otter's revenge!" (Rewind? Huh?)

    "Cheater!"

"Yeah, you would know about that."

The mood seems to change, though, as the blue-haired girl lies back and floats on the water. "I wish Rachel was here. She would totally love being in here at night." Max joins her, floating next to her. "Wish you guys had met each other..."

"We will. With all this stuff going on, I'm starting to think everything is related. And I want to find out for Kate's sake. She almost died today...."

Time seems to skip forward for a moment, like somebody hit a fast forward button. The scene is the same, but Max and the other girl are holding onto the edge of the pool as they talk now.

"Once you get over yourself, you're gonna make the world bow."

"As long as you're there with me..."

"Don't look so sad. I'm never leaving you."

Max leans forward onto her arms, giving her friend a long look and smile. And then the picture is still again.

The noises of the museum rush back in. The photograph is just a photograph.

Woah. Alex quickly steps back from the wall, blinking at the now-still picture. She feels like she just saw something private, that maybe she shouldn't have. She senses that there was something more to the scene she wasn't quite getting - what was that about rewinding? - but Max is her friend, and this sort of counts as snooping, right?

... Oh, screw it. Alex moves down the wall, before stopping at the picture of the beached whales.

The same dealeo happens - the sounds of the museum fades out, and the sound of the surf takes over.

Max is walking down the sidewalk by the beach. Next to her is.... well, she looks like the same girl from the pool, except her hair isn't dyed any more, and... most notably... she's in a motorized wheelchair.

She appears quadriplegic, arms and legs not moving, a blanket covering her lower half as she wheels forward.

They walk in silence for a few moments before the girl in the wheelchair picks up. Her voice is... definitely the same. "It's... weird, hanging out with you again."

"I know... I'm glad we are, though."

"It was... nice, that you sent me actual letters. That's more than any of my other friends have done." There's an undercurrent of sadness there. She tries to pick up the mood, though. "And you even wrote on that cool parchment paper. That's so Max."

"It's so pretentious. But I love writing on it, like an English poet. You deserve the best stationary."

"Probably easier to write than visit me. I don't mean that in a... bitchy way. Not totally. You, probably wanted to avoid awkward conversations like this."

    "Uh... pretty much, yeah."

"Look, the worst thing you can do is treat me like a baby. I still want to laugh and talk shit with my best friend." She pauses, turning her wheelchair towards the beach. "Can we stop?"

Max looks out to the beach with her. The sun is setting, and the sunset is beautiful. The view is marred by the bodies of beached whales.

"This is seriously the best view of the sunset.... What do photographers call that?"

    "The golden hour..."

The picture frames the beach, the sunset, and the whales. And the movement stops there. The sounds of the museum come rushing back.

    What was that about?

Alex pulls back from that one even faster. Way too personal, and no answers to her questions. Wanting to avoid further awkward emotions, she finally steps away from the wall and turns back towards the rest of the gallery. She notices the statue, but after that second video something seems uncomfortable about prying further into the blue-haired girl. Instead, she heads towards the informational pamphlets, hoping to find out a little more about her friend - whom she still hasn't noticed at the far end of the room.

It certainly is personal memory hour in the photography exhibit. But what's over by the information desk?

The first thing Alex might notice are the posters hung up around the information desk. Three in particular stand out - one advertising the End of the World party, one showcasing a group called the Vortex Club, and... a Missing Person poster displaying information on a missing girl named Rachel Amber.

There's also a number of informational pamphlets. Which one does Alex want to take a look at?

    A. MAX CAULFIELD
    B. CHLOE PRICE
    C. ARCADIA BAY
    D. THE PAISLEY

She picks up the "Arcadia Bay" pamphlet first. She's not one for landscapes, but the view outside is pretty nice, and she's curious about where she is (aside from in Max's head).

Well, that was... pretty ominous? Alex squints at the pamphlet, placing it back down slowly. "The sea and sky will turn black"? "Watch Arcadia Bay's descruction"? Up until now everything about Max and her life had seemed pretty normal, except for the "rewind", and the dead whales.

... Okay, so it had just seemed more normal than her own.

She bypasses the information about Max and her friend, not wanting to pry, and picks up the one on the SS Paisley.
