We can't read minds, and there's no such thing as truth serum, despite what people say. Unfortunately, or this whole mess could have been avoided.

We can sense emotions, and we can sometimes sense a lie. Sometimes. But the other problem is... Jedi are also capable of cloaking their feelings, words, presence, and so on and so forth. So being able to sometimes sense a lie is only useful when talking to a baseline individual. When speaking with another Force-user, it's virtually meaningless.

[grounds]

I'm sorry. [The words are sincere, as is her tone. With that said, she turns from the portrait, glancing around at the others before hesitantly turning towards the direction they came from.]

Let's go back.

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka shrugs.]

Lead the way. I'm only here as a guide.

[grounds]

Okay, back to the other hall. The statues looks interesting.

[And away they go.]

[resnipstance]

[AWAY THEY GO INDEED.

When you get to the other hallway, the stone statues loom larger than ever. You reach the first two, paired either side of the corridor.

The nameplate on the first statue to your left reads "Anakin Skywalker." It's a statue of a young man, maybe in his mid-20s, standing in a heroic pose. Lightsaber in one hand. A small scar adorns his right eye.

Opposite him, to your right, stands a statue of another, slightly older man. Bearded, wearing the same garb as the first, also lightsaber in hand. His nameplate reads "Obi-Wan Kenobi."

Beneath both their nameplates appear to be more text, but it's smaller and hard to read from a distance. You'd need to go closer to read what they say.

Beyond the statues of Anakin and Obi-Wan lie many, many more such statues, but you can't make out their nameplates from here. What is apparent is that they're not all human. One is very short, and looks like... a gremlin? Another looks like it might have tentacles coming out of it's head. Another still further down looks like he's wearing a gas mask. There's also another statue of a woman who looks so regal and elegant, she must be royalty. And another statue of a woman who seems to have the same horns and tails that Ahsoka does, only hers are much larger. And... there's one curious statue that seems to be in a state of complete disrepair-- like a lightning bolt has struck it down the middle.

Towards the end of the corridor, you can just make out from here, looks like statues that are still being built. They're too far from here, though, you'd need to go closer to make anything out.]

[grounds]

[Footsteps, from a slow jog to a delayed walk, echo throughout the grand hallway. Octavia's eyes are wide and her mouth open just so, in awe of her surroundings. She slowly walks through the hall, eyeing every statue as she moves, only stopping once she reaches the one that looks like Ahsoka.]

Another of your people?

[resnipstance]

[As you pass by the other statues to get to this one, you get strange flashes of varying emotions passing you by. But as you stand in the shadow of this statue, there seem to be no particularly strong emotions coming forth. Perhaps... respect. Yes, that's it. You respect this person, from a distance.

Ahsoka simply nods at the question.

The name plate reads "Shaak Ti," and she looks absolutely formidable. But in the good way. The kind of warrior you are glad is on your side. She's maybe in her mid thirties, but it's hard to tell since she's an alien.

The text below her name plate simply reads, "Jedi Master, fellow togruta."

As you read those words, you get a sense of who this person was to Ahsoka. A Master on the Jedi High Council, someone she looked up to, someone wise but distant. She taught Ahsoka about the traditions of their people, since Ahsoka came to the Temple too young to know them herself. She gave Ahsoka her first togruta sash to wear-- a traditional garment worn by their people. She taught her about the significance of the akul-tooth headdress-- the specific piece of jewellery they both wear on their forehead, signifying victory over a great enemy and the strength of a great warrior.

She is always even-tempered and wise, this person, despite her strength on the battlefield. She truly embodies the Jedi sensibility of wisdom before action. Although Shaak Ti seems to have been careful to keep Ahsoka at a distance and never get too close, it seems Ahsoka respects her a great deal nonetheless.]

[grounds]

[She only barely catches the nod, expression of wonder still very much present, with a hint of a smile breaking through. Octavia stands there, staring for another few moments before slowly-- very slowly making her way to the remnants of a statue. Or what had once been one as grand and great as the others.]

What happened here?

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka seems not to hear you as she stares out into the distance at something in the opposite direction. Either that, or she's ignoring you.

As you get closer to the ruined statue, you can just make out the damaged nameplate: Barriss Offee.

Rubble lies around the bottom of it-- presumably the broken pieces, not yet cleared away. The statue itself is too far damaged to make it out entirely, but it looks like it might have once been a young girl or woman, possibly around Ahsoka's age.

If you get even closer, the first row of words beneath the name plate might have once read, "Fellow Padawan, Best Friend" except that they're now scratched out. Beneath them stands the new title: "Traitor."

In the shadow of this statue, you feel... betrayed. Overwhelmed. Confused. Lost. Uncertain. Upset. Rage. Fear. Loneliness. Pain.]

[grounds]

[The sudden onslaught of feelings causes her to recoil and stumble backwards until she's far enough away from the rubble to not make out much of anything. She might want to ask, want to know, but she's well aware she shouldn't. It's not her business, and she's probably intruded too much already.

Octavia walks backwards, still warily eyeing the debris, before turning and speeding up her pace to reach the initial welcoming statues. She takes a hesitant step towards the one labelled Obi-Wan.]

[Obi-Wan's statue is grand. A welcome change from the onslaught of negative feelings of Barriss's statue, in contrast the shadow of Obi-Wan Kenobi's statue feels warm. Protective. Wise.

You get the feeling that as long as this person is around, you'll be safe. There's also a touch of fondness there, too.

Below his nameplate are the following words:

"Master's Master. Member of the Jedi High Council. Friend. Mentor. Partner in Sass and Double-Teaming Anakin."]

[grounds]

[Octavia glances back at Ahsoka, an amused smile tugging at her lips.]

'Partner in Sass' huh?

[resnipstance]

[A series of faded memories of Obi-Wan snarking begin to play through as Octavia says that-- they're not as strong and all-consuming as the ones in the gallery. It's easier to maintain your sense of self as you view them, detached. These aren't particularly emotionally-charged memories, after all. Just memorable, funny snippets. A few particular exchanges stand out:

"I must have carbon sickness," Obi-Wan muses, "Because I could swear that's Ahsoka." After all, everyone heard Anakin give Ahsoka strict instructions not to come on this mission. It was too dangerous.

Anakin growls. "Your eyes are fine. It's Ahsoka's hearing that needs help."

Ahsoka seems unconcerned. All innocence. "I received orders to join the team. I thought you knew."

"Orders?" Anakin repeats, nonplussed. "From who?"

"I discussed it with Master Plo," she lies smoothly.

"He didn't tell me."

"You were already frozen in carbonite," Ahsoka shrugs, like it couldn't be helped. Anakin isn't buying it.

"Well, I gave you a specific order not to come."

Ahsoka just smiles back at him. "If there's one thing I've learned from you, Master, it's that following direct orders isn't always the best way to solve a problem."

That only makes Anakin more angry, and she can tell he's about to ream into her, when Obi-Wan interrupts with a grin on his face and a chuckle.

"I see Anakin's new teaching method is to do as I say, not as I do. Welcome aboard, Ahsoka."

Another, older and fuzzier memory plays-- Ahsoka is very young. She's giving Anakin some sass and calling him on some new piece of hypocrisy, and Anakin is doing a poor job of defending himself. She doesn't really remember what it was about now. She just remembers the following exchange, when Anakin decides he can't actually counter Ahsoka's argument:

"Feel free to chime in anytime," Anakin glares at Obi-Wan standing off to the side.

"Oh no," Obi-Wan smiles, all innocence. "I'm enjoying this far too much."]

[grounds]

[She can't help it, she just laughs. It's not a chuckle or a giggle, but a full blown laugh. Octavia's had her share of rebellious moments, so she can appreciate both Ahsoka's actions and Obi-Wan's. In fact, she appreciates his.

The memories end, but the grin remains.]

Got it now.

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka drifts closer too.]

Ah, poor Obi-Wan. Stories abounded in the Temple when I was growing up there about how put-upon he was when Anakin was his student. We were always hearing reports about Anakin disobeying this or that order. I think he thought it was karmic retribution when Anakin finally got saddled with me.

[grounds]

Hindsight's a bitch, isn't it? [A grin is tossed her way.] Too bad your master can't change anything now.

[resnipstance]

I wouldn't let him, anyway, even if he could.

[grounds]

He'd have a hard time with you, if those flashbacks were any indication.

[resnipstance]

Hey, what can I say. Stubbornness is one of my better qualities.

[grounds]

Hey, at least you admit that. [Octavia shrugs.]

So, what do you think? Have I pried enough?

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka shrugs.]

In order for you to be prying, there'd need to be something private here. My every movement has been public record from the minute I arrived at the Temple on Coruscant thirteen years ago.

[grounds]

[She wrinkles her nose in distaste. The idea of that isn't appealing to her at all.]

Seriously? That's pretty uncomfortable to think about.

[resnipstance]

[She doesn't seem fazed. This is how she was raised, after all. It doesn't seem strange at all.]

Well, Jedi are meant to be defenders of peace and justice across the galaxy. That means we have to be accountable. The system doesn't work if only some are exemplary and others aren't. The people need to trust us to always do the right thing. We're public figures. We don't get private lives.
