[Hello Fleet, it's been a while since you all have seen this particular redhead's face on the network. Months, really, since she's made a public broadcast like this. She appears to be in a good mood, offering the fleet a smile, and even if her address is rather formal, her tone is warm and welcoming. Behind her is the greenhouse of the Iskaulit, with lots of tropical-looking plants and even what looks like fruit! Weird fruit! But fruit nonetheless.]

Good afternoon! For those of you who don't know me, I'm Dr. Beverly Crusher of the SS Blue Fish. I, along with Ino Yamanaka on the Three Twins, run the garden here on the Iskaulit. I've spoken with many of you who have expressed an interest in learning how to garden. In light of this, I've decided to offer classes of a sort... nothing too formal, just a weekly meeting where I can teach people the basics of taking care of plants in the environment of a starship. Though of course, if people want something more extensive, I'm more than happy to accommodate for that! But it seems best to start simple, see what people are most interested in. So, if this is something you think you'd like to be a part of or if you have any questions, you can either respond here or I'll be on the Iskaulit the rest of the afternoon should you prefer to talk in person.

What brings you here? Did you want to take the class?

I figured it was about time. I love to teach, but I admit it's a bit of a strain having to try to teach several individual classes when we could all be together for one.

Oh hello Chara! I haven't seen you in a while!

[That would be because they're a different Chara. Whoops. Someone hasn't been keeping very good track of the crew lists. Fortunately, Beverly is well acquainted with the concept of parallel universes, so it shouldn't be too hard to explain.]

And of course you'd be allowed. In fact, the gardens are communal, so as long as you're willing to contribute to upkeep, you're free to use the facilities we have, if you'd like. If I had known you were interested, I would have mentioned it to you earlier.

[Ororo's a bit disoriented from her recent move into her first ship in the fleet but this absolutely grabs her attention and when she speaks up, she can't quite contain the uncharacteristic enthusiasm in her voice.]

- Oh! Are those dragonfruit behind you? They look absolutely beautiful.

[(- I picked the weirdest looking tropical fruit I'm familiar with, I hope that's okay!)]

Ah!

[Beverly looks over her shoulder at the spiky fruit for a moment before turning back to Ororo with a smile.]

Not quite. Almost none of are plants are what you might be familiar with on Earth, though I do believe that these are of a similar genus to dragonfruit, but they're much more intense in flavor and they actually take on a bluish tinge when ripe.

He might be from the future, but he had grown up on a farm and appreciated a bit of green and the fresh scent of living things. ]}

[She looks up from her work, smiling.] Thank you, Captain. [He may be at Bev, but she’s not quite ready for just Kirk. And definitely not Jim. Give her a little more time, and she’ll get over that particular hang up.]

You know, I could really use a distraction. And more to do. As it turns out, staring at the walls isn't great for your health. You mind if I throw in a tally of interest?

[He smiles a bit; Sam's had a rough as hell week after being unconscious for two — going home and getting hit with horrible stuff is on par the course, really, but it doesn't stop it from being painful as hell when it happens.]

I was kind of a gardener before. In the other universe I was stuck in; we didn't exactly have self-producing space food, so it was kind of important to grow our own stuff.

No, of course I don’t mind! Ino and I designed these to be community gardens, for everyone in the fleet - as long as people are willing to put in some work of course.

[She returns his smile, albeit a bit grimly.]

I’ve also been in a situation before where growing our own food and medicine was the only option. I don’t want that to happen to us here or for us to become too dependent on Atroma.

[Rather than respond via the network, Vima decides to just show up on the Iskaulit to check out the garden in-person.

When she get there, she takes a deep breath... for a ship that had been steeped in death and pain, the Fleet's done wonders with it. The garden really was a good idea. It really helps to bring a sense of life and peace back.]

Hey, Doc. Is any of this fruit edible?

[Beverly looks up as Vima comes in and waves at her in greeting from across the room before walking over.]

Most of it is, yes! The ones that aren't are labeled, though a lot of things aren't quite ripe yet, so you might want to ask me before you try something, just in case.
