this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.

[ it takes repeating his motivational speech about 500 times in his head, and throwing up (only!) once, but winn manages to convince himself to make the journey and step on non-earthly soil for the first time in his life.

now that he's here - it's actually pretty damn cool. ok, so the pollution part is awful, of course! although - helpful, because he's hunting down radiation-proof materials and this place seems almost tailor made for that need. in fact, it's kind of hard to ignore the gnawing suspicion that the producers brought him here because they're entertained by his little project. but even if they are - it doesn't matter, it can still bite them in the ass in the end! and the war games are giving him the creeps on so many levels - but he's on an actual alien planet! this is a once in a lifetime opportunity! well...maybe not once anymore, but he's going to treat it that way or it will be a lot harder to deal with, and the last thing he needs is to make things harder on himself.

he can be found wandering stores, examining both chemicals and safety measures very carefully - and wishing he had more money because it would absolutely suck to find out that he left just the crucial part he needed behind. ]

[The nice thing about the indoors is not needing the mask. It's hanging off her belt as she spots him. This way he gets to see that she's smiling.] You made it. How's it feel to be on solid ground again?

[ his face practically lights up when he sees her, and he immediately puts the gloves he was examining back to run up to her ]

I'd say freaking fantastic, but - [ he looks around them. for a second it may look like he's about to react negatively to the environment - this isn't exactly ideal ground and all. ] it doesn't really do it justice! Check it out, I already have most of what I need for protection - [ he puts down his purcheses on a bench so he could show them off ] Maybe if we walk around together we can figure out what we need for the actual - [ 'project' just kind of sounds lame. he pauses ] we need a code name.

[So eager, Winn. She's going to have to imagine you're well caffeinated or she'll end up being flattered.] I'm glad it suits you. [Definitely not the nicest place, but she's been to worse. His excitement also seems to brighten the experience.]

A code name? [She looks a little confused. Are you jumping the gun on our ship name?]

You know - [ he leans in a little closer, lowering his voice ] for the power source. I was thinking maybe Plato.

Plato? Did some of his philosophies involve the sun? [She knows a lot of things and retains information well, but there's only so much any one person can study especially if that one person never got to finish school and her interests lay toward technology, science, and language more so than other humanities.

But this exchange already feels familiar. It'll feel a lot more familiar if he gives her an almost encyclopedic-sounding answer.]

Yeah, he had this one dialogue - where he compared goodness to the sun - it was something like its light allows us to see just like goodness opens our mind.

[ and it just really feels appropriate for a project meant to restore supergirl's powers.

his knowledge, however, is less encyclopedic, and more quoted in a comic book. ]

[She approves of the less encyclopedic approach. Not that there is anything wrong with the original, but fewer reminders are good.]

[ he's going to jump at that, and even yelp a little, because he really was pretty engrossed in examining the merch. it's a good thing he wasn't holding anything fragile! turning around with a startled expression, he puts a hand to his racing heart. ]

Jesus, Kara! [ but already, his nerves melt into a smile ] -- check it out, I'm pretty sure this fabric can handle the radiation levels I'm gonna work with.

[ she laughs and is in higher spirits than he's probably seen her. she leans in to give him a hug. a stronger hug, though brief ]

That's great! This is like a treasure trove for you down here, huh?

[ he returns the hug, and lets out a somewhat surprised oh at the intensity of it. not that he really minds - it's just great to see her so genuinely happy again ]

I got - uh - some - defined ideas and expert help. It's, still gonna be a lot of guesswork for a while, but at least we'll have what to work with! Though I - [ he gives her a sheepish look ] - may need a loan for some of this.

[Indoors, Susan has her gas mask clipped to a belt commonly worn for that very purpose and her hood down. Her hair is braided back, her accent the one thing that seems to set her apart from the natives. Well, that and the questions she's asking:] And you're sure that mixing this with some kind of soda would work? By the way it smells, I think it'd only make a stomachache worse...

[ that bit of conversation is enough to pique winn's interest; chemistry has never been that much his field, particularly organic chemistry, but if the ingredients listed are recognizable in any way, he thinks he can at the very least tell a pain killer from a harmful substance - or a harmless placebo.

walking up to the girl, he smiles ]

Hi -- mind if I take a look? I know a little something about what should make up a pain killer.

[ judging by the salesman's expression, he doesn't even need to know anything to know that what he's holding ain't it. ]

[Susan blinks at the sudden interruption. She looks up at him and then back to the booth's salesman.

No, of course not. We were just discussing local remedies for illnesses brought on by the climate.

Locals should have a lot of good stuff for that -

[ he looks over the item currently on offer for her - smells it, takes a tiny bit on his finger to examine the texture, the flavor. ]

But this isn't it - that looks like lactose powder to me. Hope whoever you're shopping for isn't intolerant. [ he hands the salesman his powder back ] What else you got?

I'm particularly interested in any alternatives you have for preventative medicines. [Susan told the shopkeeper, who looked like he'd suddenly begun sucking on something sour. Really, she'd just been trying to find out local customs, but if she was going to have someone alongside her who knew what different things actually were, so much the better.

"I'm sure we've got something like that somewhere here," said the owner.]

I'm sure you do.

[ winn gives the man a look that's completely unimpressed with his attitude. nobody likes a sore loser.

he smiles at the young woman at his side while the owner goes back to dig for - hopefully - the real thing this time. ]

Guess it's not surprising this place is making people sick -- I hope it's not too bad? [ getting sick in space. here's one horror scenario he hasn't really considered yet. ]

[ Ramse hates wearing the masks; it reminds him of his childhood in the worst way possible but it also allows him to step foot on an actual planet (or moon, as the case may be) and get out of the tin can prison that his ship was beginning to feel like. He's down here looking for food and sleep aids above all else, and has plenty of money left from working on the Starlight besides his regular account. So he's also wandering stores, constantly adjusting his mask and avoiding the war games as best he can. Maybe later he'll try to find someone who can play Go with him but for now... well. First things first, as they say.

He's mistaken a chemical shop for some kind of pharmacy, and is wandering around looking as confused as possible with half his face covered. (It's all in the eyes.)

[ winn wanders that same shop. his eyes don't reveal confusion, however, they reveal interest, excitement, and focus. finally! he's got a first step towards helping kara.

unfortunately, he's so focused trying to figure out which chemicals he absolutely has to have, which might come in handy and he'll want to kill himself for leaving behind, which are dangerous, and which would just be pointless -- that he doesn't notice the other man making the rounds in the opposite direction, and walks right into him.

that's totally what you meant by help, right? ]

[ it doesn't look like he's made him drop anything which is good - dropping chemicals is a definite no-no. ]

[ Ramse's hands fly up to keep the bottles in the other man's arms where they are, rather than on the floor. Because dropping chemicals is bad, and he's figured out by now that this is a chemical supply rather than a chemist's. ]

Uh, experimenting! Not a lot to do when we're stuck in a flying tin can, you know? [ awkward chuckle is a go, please don't dig further into it, stranger! he prays. it's mostly true! it is boring on the spaceships, and he is going to experiment with them. just. for a specific purpose that is much more important than boredom relief. that's just a very pleasant side-effect. ]
