[ Video/Action | Open ] Rosh Hashanah
Who: Kitty Pryde and YOU!
Broadcast: Video, open
Action: Iskaulit, feel free to run into her
When: Nowish!
[Kitty is on screen looking much more feminine than last time.]
Does anyone have any apples or honey or anything close to either from the last stop? I was...just thinking about it today. [Softer.] Not that I even know how to tell when sundown is in space.
[But she knows it's close to Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, but nailing down a date would take calculating she can't do based on a moon that's not even here. She's not really a religious person and has some definite issues with god especially after everything she's been through back home, but the traditions remind her of better times when she was young with her family. She didn't think about it much in the last place because they didn't run off of a calendar she was familiar with, but here it brings back memories.]
Anyway, I'd trade for some if you do. We'll work something out.
Leshana tovah. [She's wishing people a good year in Hebrew, but she doesn't bother explaining the meaning.]

Are there other things you do adhere to? [ he kinda thought they shared the same mindset when it came to religion, but he failed to consider family traditions.
it's a mystery why. ]
action;
Okay, I can see where that wouldn't make sense.
action;
action;
[She smiles a little.] Do you have anything else you adhere to? [Using his word.]
action;
[ he shrugs. and back home, he's got all sorts of nerdy decorations to hang on them. it's fun.
she gets a I see what you did there smile, as he shakes his head. ]
Do Christmas gifts with friends count? Cuz I do that.
action;
We did the usual kind of Hannakah stuff too. Candles. Little gifts. Gelt. Food. Always food.
action;
[ he nudges her. ]
Hey, food's always good. Anything in particular? Besides the honey apples... [ nodding ] Hanukkah's the one that's around Christmas, right?
action; what if I spell it differently every time?
Mm, food. There's usually a brisket or sometimes salmon. Some years we had both so Dad could call it Surf and Turf Hanukkah. Potato latkes with applesauce, noodle kugel, usually some vegetables in casserole form and salads in marshmallow form because we were in the midwest. Oh! And the donuts. Can't forget the donuts. They're just the holes with cinnamon and sugar on them. After listing all these foods I'm going to be really disappointed if our next stop is largely food free.
action; ttly legit tbh
Mmhm, that sounds good, I'm totally on the lets celebrate Hanukkah express. [ even if he doesn't know what kugel is and he's still not into the meaty options. anything that's got potatoes in it already sounds good, and donuts? come on. ]
action; Excellent!
We can always make it Chrisukkah or Hanumas or something.
action;
He laughs. ]
Perfect. What other holidays are there?
action;
Passover is the other big one we'd do things for. More food. We basically skipped all the fasting holidays. [Or the fasting part anyway.]
Um, and Yom HaShoah. It's the Holocaust Memorial Day. We always lit a candle for my great aunt, Chava. She died in Auschwitz.
action;
When's that?

[ okay yeah he's ignorant of things that don't exist on his earth but those are different. there are definitely jewish people back home, he's just...never learned about their holidays. ]

I love knowing stuff about you. And knowing stuff, period. So what was it you said? It was Hebrew, right?
action;
Leshana tovah. I was wishing everyone a good year.
action;
[ he tries to repeat it, slowly. the sounds are foreign and strange, but hey, he's dedicated himself to learning sindarin, quenya, klingon...what's hebrew, right? ]
Leshana tovah, Kitty. [ his accent is thick, it'll take a while to get right. but points for trying? ]
