[ Actually, use of the term "skullkid" was not exactly correct for once, since she's not wearing it today. Who is this normal kid hanging around the SS Red Fish? Or hanging around the shops here.

Eh, she must be new. ]

[She keeps it brief anyway, there to be engaged in if Emblica wants, and shrugged off also if that's what the girl prefers. She slips easily into treating Emblica like one of her young soldiers because of that baby face, and it doesn't hurt that Emblica seems like she needs guidance and support.

Though she does step back in a moment.]

I'd love to. Why don't we go to the galley?

[ She can't deny that it's nice... ]

All of the ships really do look the same, don't they.

They certainly do. I suppose it makes sense... they must be mass produced. [She leads the way, though there's really no need. If the ships are the same, Emblica obviously knows the layout.]

How have you been?

Whoever produced them certainly is capable of much more than I've ever seen.

[ She still follows, like a little duckling. ]

I'm fine. ...what about you?

I'm doing all right. I learned something about my crewman! He can talk after all. It seems he just doesn't like to.

[Oh look, they're in the galley in a jiffy.]

He sounds difficult.

[ Not that she's much better. But she does stay standing a bit, looking all around the room like she doesn't have the same thing on her own ship. ]

Is there anything you'd like me to get ready?

Mm. Is there anything you need for this? Plates and utensils I presume...

That should be all.

[Ah, well, she'll go and get those things, then, taking her time in setting them up nicely. She's not in any rush... though she hesitates a moment over deciding whether the places should be across from or next to each other. Eventually she settles on across from, because she wants to see Emblica's face.]

Have you looked at the topsoil here at all?

[ She's fine with that too, since looking at Hange will help her figure out how she did with this whole food making thing. ]

Yes, but it doesn't seem to be able to support plant life...it'll have to wait.

That's a shame... I have to wonder how long these people have been here. Would you like to dish out the food, or shall I?

[ She'll go ahead and give Hange some food, taking some for herself as well. She managed to make something of the unidentified meat-- certainly not on the level of a good expensive steak, though-- and prepared some of the unidentified root vegetables that seemed to have the consistency and texture of a potato. They tasted a bit like carrots, though. ]

If there's anything that I should change, you can tell me.

[ For her, eating is less of a nice experience and more of a necessity, something like breathing. Unexciting. ]

[She forgoes speculating on the locals and their adaptations for the moment to take a bite. Hange comes from a world that's suffered years of food shortages and tightened belts. Due to her rank, she does get meat, but it's still rarer then it was and a luxury. Miles of hunting grounds transformed into fields for cabbages and potatoes to sustain a hungry population. The meat hits her tongue and she hums appreciatively.]

Well done, I'd say! Who taught you to cook? [And she takes another bite, this time of the tubers.]

[ Oh, that's good. She was worried, since she and the only other guy to test her food don't have much of a good sense of what tastes good and what doesn't. ]

My parents did, but I've had to cook for myself for a long time.

I'm glad it's fine.

[ Slowly picking at her own food... ]

[Given that Emblica is centuries old... she supposes that would be a long time.

Really, Hange is touched. It's not so often that people seek her out to share her food and company. She chews slowly, savoring the meal. Often she just ends up gulping down her food, but that wouldn't be a good way to show appreciation for Emblica...]

What's your favorite food?

[ No need to hold back on her account!! Besides, it's not like she ever really gets sought out for company either... ]

I don't...really have a favorite. It's nicer to eat with others, though.

I happen to agree! It was practice as a scout for all of us to eat together... it builds solidarity, you know. [Munch.] Nunnally's quite sweet, but not all my crew is so sociable.

We don't eat together. On my ship, I mean.

It sounds like your crew isn't inclined to be companionable at all.

Well...neither am I, I'll admit.

I prefer to have a good relationship with the people I'm going to be living and working with...

We barely live together, and we certainly don't work together.

That truly is a shame, Emblica. You don't seem to be comfortable with your crew at all.

Actually, I'm used to working alone-- it's a bit like home.

[ The slightest hint of humor creeping into her voice. ]

The fringe benefit of having a crew could be having people you could work with comfortably. [She shrugs a little.] Well, as long as you're sure you're safe, of course you should do what you wish. But you'd take care of it if they put you in danger, right?
