Sweet dreams are made of these...
( for A-M characters )
Before you post your topcomment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names comment here, and N-Z names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your topcomment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

Almost all of them seem to be pictures taken in the same town seen outside of the museum through its glass wall. It seems like that town must mean a lot to Max.
The smaller pictures seem innocuous enough, but the larger ones, the ones that have been blown up, seem to have a different quality to them. And the closer Shawn gets to one, the more the background noises - voices, music - seem to fade away.
Which picture is he going to check out first?
A. A shot of the outside of a school - on old, brick building looking dignified, although there's an intensity, as if something's about to happen. ((Ep 2 spoilers, suicide))
B. A scary shot of a tornado, absolutely huge, approaching from the sea.
C. A photograph of Max and another girl, holding hands while walking down railroad tracks. ((Ep 2 spoilers))
D. A shot of a short-haired girl, covered in paint. ((Ep 1 spoilers))
E. The same girl from the railroad picture, standing with a playful expression. ((Ep 2 spoilers))
F. A beach with a number of beached whales, lifeless in the sun. ((Ep 4 spoilers))
G. A shot of a large amount of medical equipment, cold and impersonal. ((Ep 4 spoilers, injury, suicide))
H. Or choose the smart option and ignore these photos, something seems off about them.
C!
(Frankly, he hasn't even noticed how the background noises are fading; when he finds a photo he likes, he's a bit lost in his own thoughts.)

In the picture, Max and her friend are walking. Actually moving! The picture is moving. Pictures are not supposed to do that, are they?
They're each walking on a rail, hands held out for balance. Max's friend's voice cuts in. "I can't believe you basically gave him my gun. 'Here you go, Frank!'" She sounds upset.
Max, likewise, sounds exasperated. Tired of this argument. "You can't keep getting mad at me. Especially for stupid shit." She lowers her arms for a moment, before realizing she really does need them up for balance.
"I'm not mad," her friend insists. "It adds up in my mind as people letting me down. And I just liked having that gun, man."
Max looks over. She just looks at her friend for a second, but then she takes her hand. For a few moments, they simply walk like that, holding hands. Silent. Until Max speaks. "Now you have me to protect you."
The picture stops there. It's the same shot of them holding hands as the photograph initially showed. The background noises rush back in, filling the void of silence.
...That was weird, wasn't it?

"This had better not be one of those magic things..."
Though, now that he's able to process the memory, he can't help smiling a little at the mental image of Max trying to protect someone. "Just like her too," he says, to no one in particular as he moves onto another picture.
A; warning, suicide
The next picture is the shot outside of an old school building - dormitories, to be exact. The noise coming in from this one is... shouting. Lots of it. It drowns out even the rain that has suddenly appeared in the shot as well.
The closer Shawn approaches, though, causes the shot to actually pan downward, until cutting in front of another smaller building, blocking the view of the dormitories. Max is there, along with a large crowd of students who are all rushing forward, clamoring for a view on the green in front of the dorms.
Max can hear the voices of the gathered crowd.
A girl worriedly says, "Is this for real?"
"Bitch flipped out!" goes one deep-voiced guy.
"I knew she was messed up, but I never she was this messed up!" insists a girl.
Max makes her way around the building. The dorms come into view. She looks to the roof of the dorms, and- there's a girl. A girl on the edge of the roof.
Max is the one who speaks this time, frantic. "Kate! No-o-o!" Her "no" comes out as mostly a sob. "Oh, God, I have to do something to help her!"
However, as she moves forward, there's a gasp from the gathered crowd. Kate takes a step forward, and plunges off the roof.
For a moment, right as Kate hits the ground, time seems to stop. "She can't die! She can't!"
...And then the picture is back to normal. A nice shot of the campus dormitories.

Magic moving pictures don't help ANYBODY, mister. Except the words won't even leave his mouth, as he closes his eyes and rubs his (suddenly cold) arms.
"I think we're done with pictures," he mutters, turning away from the pictures and back towards the crowd. "Her poor friend, man... No one deserves to go out like that."
no subject
However, as he turns from the pictures, the noise of the crowd becomes more distinct as Shawn pays attention to them.
Even though, for the most part, they seem to be enjoying the photography, their comments...
"Is Max Caulfield even friends with anybody? Or does she just manipulate everybody around her? She wants to be popular, that's all."
"Why does everybody around her die?"
"She's never there for her friends when they need her. How can she even live with herself?"
They're not the kind of comments you'd normally hear about an artist in their exhibit.
Where is Shawn going from here?
A. Confront those visitors, or listen to their comments
B. Scenic view of a small northwestern town
C. Informational pamphlets at the front desk
D. Go back to the photographs in the exhibit
E. Statue in the exhibit
F. Max Caulfield
A!
Shawn's already rolling up his metaphorical sleeves as he rushes towards a couple of people in the crowd. People can say whatever the heck they want about him (call him trailer park trash, or a guy not destined for middle class normalcy), but they sure can't get away with saying it to Max. Much less at an exhibit that celebrates HER.
"Where do you get off on saying that, buddy?" Shawn's already trying to poke one of those sorry guys in the chest. "Did you designate her the town protector, or something? Is that why you're shifting all the blame onto someone who, quite frankly, doesn't deserve any of it?"
no subject
"She's not worth it," says one of the others. "She's not worth anything. Just a worthless little girl trying to make herself seem special."
no subject
"If that's the case, man, then she would've said different stuff to me. I don't hang out with Max because she says stuff just to agree with me. Trust me, if she did? I would've peaced out a long time ago."
no subject
That hand is Max's. It looks like his argument has, at least, been able to garner her attention, and she's made her way over.
"Yeah, she knows it's all true."
"More like I know you're all full of shit. You're not even all that good at this."
no subject
People could be fickle about art. People could criticize the photographs and even that large statue, and he'd understand. He wouldn't have liked it, but he would've understood.
"Seriously, if you're gonna insult her, come up with something slightly more plausible than the harbinger of death."
no subject
Even if being the harbinger of death isn't too far from the truth.
no subject
"No problem. I uh, I saw some of your photographs. They were really great - and totally worth having an entire exhibit." His smile grows more genuine. "I'm just sorry they don't agree."
