[There is this thing Cole does.

He visits other ships. Sometimes he put the Pathstone alongside to visit and sometimes he takes a shuttle, but he's constantly wandering all over the fleet, being with people, circulating.

He hasn't done it in a while. He got a nasty fright and went into hiding for a while.

But the creepy psychic being is back! Sticking his large nose into all the business.]

I wouldn't know. I've never heard of the Fade. But the Force is more than . . . magic and dreams. It's motion. Motion in events, motion in life, motion in our actions and decisions.

The Fade is emotion, memory, collective thought... virtues. Vice.

Maybe they're the same.

Perhaps. I can't confirm it without ever feeling the Fade. The Force is everywhere, though. Even here. Does the Fade exist in this place?

I don't know. Solas said it didn't, but it must, because I can still move with it. I can't go back there. I'm too real now to go back. I don't belong.

If I slept, maybe I would visit like mages do. Maybe not. I'm not a mage.

[beardstrokes]

That . . . does not sound like the Force, but it does seem similar.

[ Though the Force did work with visions during slumber. Perhaps that is what Cole meant? ]

I can't make things move with my mind, or throw lightning bolts, or heal people.

I can sort of heal people. Not very well. I can take their pain away though. I can help other people heal people.

And your pain? What happens with that?

... I don't understand.

People keep asking me that, but no one explains.

Ah. Well, it is difficult to explain from an outside point of view. What I mean is are there any experiences where it pains you personally?

It hurts every time. Whenever I feel their memories, their pain, I feel it. I live it.

[beardstrokes]

What about your memories? Don't they elicit pain as well?

[killedwithlove]

I- don't know.

[He never focuses on his own pain. He did once and he did terrible things to try and help other people, because his pain blinded him.]

My pain distracts me from helping others. I want to help other people, ease their suffering. It's what I am.

[beardstrokes]

But there must be a way to handle your pain as well. What you told me applies to you.

No, it doesn't.

You're mortal. I'm not. I'm Compassion. I help others with their pain. And I accepted what I did.

[beardstrokes]

I don't think being Compassion means you are free of pain. Even with acceptance.

[ Certainly, not with the spirits he's met. They all seemed vulnerable, even at the height of their powers. The Dark Side felt grief. The Light Side was unsure. ]

My pain isn't... it doesn't...

It's not the same. Not real like other people's is.

I don't have developed emotions like mortals. I don't feel some things. At all. And I don't remember thing like mortals do.

I can't feel Pride, or Faith. I don't understand them. I don't get Sloth. I got angry a couple of times. But I think it was Vengeance, not Rage. He killed me, so I wanted to kill him back. But I didn't.

I do know Fear though. I hid from people for a long time because I was scared of them. I can make people not see me.

They're still emotions, though, emotions you can feel. Maybe there's a sense of discombobulation but there's no denying the feeling behind them, correct?

They are emotions. But I can't feel Pride, or Faith, or Sloth. Or Malice. I am Compassion, and I'm more than just Compassion, but I'm still not like a mortal.

... what's discombobulation?

It means confusion, when there's a gap between feeling and understanding. If that makes sense.

I understand.

No. I suppose I should know better than to try and make sense of it.

[Cole watches Obi-Wan for a while and then... he thinks it might work. Like with River.]

I might be able to explain. You're... not a spirit. But you have something that might make it work anyway. Speaking without bodies.

[He offers out one long fingered, body hand, palm up.]
