[ Hermione shakes her head, pushing her hair from her face. ]

Well, I've met my share of ridiculous people, though nothing on the scale you're used to.

I doubt you were almost engaged to a heroic spirit that was the embodiment of the legend of Gilgamesh who also tried to kill you- actually, let's not talk about that.

[ She shakes her head, forcing a smile. ]

No, nothing that amazing.

[ Tyki had killed him once, monsters killing monsters. He had long forgotten that - or any of the amazing connections he had made. Charles only had eyes for the future. ]

I don't think almost murder is amazing. He only wanted me for my power anyway.

[ Hermione shakes her head, lifting her hand and touching it to Charles' before it goes up, tilting his head to look at her. It's a rather awkward role reversal, but she deals with it. ]

It's history now, but that doesn't mean it goes away, right?

No. It's not meant to go away, just to inform. And even then, it should informs us gently.

Something like that. [ She makes a small noise, mostly frustrated. ] I really miss my Pensieve.

Oh, um, it was like a bowl, but it was enchanted so you could deposit and view memories? It's how you showed me your sister.

[ He rubs his chin. ]

I vaguely recall that. But why would I use that and not -- [ He waves his hand close to his head to gesture at his mind. ]

When I was given it as a boon I showed you it, and I think you were curious about how it worked. It's not too different from telepathy, except it feels like I'm there in the memory as I watch it. Just invisible.

So it's like a projection . . . I was testing that out with Hank a month ago.

A little bit, I suppose, except you're projected into the memory, rather than someone projecting themselves. You can see everything that happened and - well, it's obvious that sometimes people can jump to conclusions. I mostly used it to help clear my mind sometimes.

Fascinating . . . [ He trails off. It sounded close to what he was attempting with Hank, bringing the memory to the forefront, like being the actor on a movie set. ]

[ She wishes she had it with her, but she supposes her lioness form is as good a trade off as a Pensieve. ]

Oh! Um, I can put memories in there and they're not gone, but it's harder to remember them. It makes my mind a little bit less tangled up, I think.

[ The memory shards behaved in such a way, though they were still entrenched in the feelings of the person. ]

Exactly, it's just like that. It's nice to have a break from how crowded my mind can get sometimes.

[ He tilts his head, considering before he nods. ]

Memories and thoughts were very powerful in the Drabwurld. There were stories about how shardholders in the past could use their shards to manipulate people's thoughts and memories, winning wars like that - it was vile, and terrifying. I'm glad I can just look at mine, thank you.

I didn't know they were that powerful. I imagine just looking is enough for anybody.

You would think that, but - some people aren't happy with just looking.

[ He briefly recalls Eris and her cloying touch. No, people weren't easily satisfied. ]

No. There's always that propensity to wanting more.

That's what I was there for, I think. To try and make sure that didn't happen.

[ Even if she did accidentally piss off giant scary men called 'Man-Eater' so much that they cursed her.
