[It sure is a lovely day actually pretty much indeterminate time period out here in the vast darkness of space, isn't it? I bet everyone's enjoying themselves, getting a chance to get off their dinky little ship and stretch their legs. Even on this shitty, empty little waystation.

[ooc: hi everyone! I thought I'd give this a try and see how the game liked it. What we have here is a mass mingle post. Rather than everyone making a bunch of different posts about landing on the station, everyone is invited to post a parent comment with their character out and about, doing something. Everyone else is invited to look at who's posted, tag them, post their own parent comments, thread jack, tag around and generally have a grand old time! It should hopefully be a nice low-pressure way to do some action tagging with each other.

Yeah, I guess. It's really different from the places I'm used to...

...What about you? [and this is what happens when you have two concern-deflectors in a conversation together]

The same is true for me. [going from being in jail to being able to freely wander a galaxy, in a sense... it's a huge change]

Even though we're confined on this journey, there's almost a certain sense of freedom. We're able to meet interesting and kind people, and already space has been quite beautiful.

[his smile kind of weakens] Yeah...

[meaning, he doesn't actually agree at all, but doesn't want to let on. arguing is not his thing.

so, he casually slides over to another topic, nodding toward the clothing vendors]

...Were you looking at the dresses?

[she notes that his face falls slightly... As he switches the subject her brows crease slightly. Oh no, she hopes she didn't offend him somehow. She opens her mouth to ask about it, but the words die before she says them and she nods. She'll ask again in a bit]

Mm hm. All the dresses seem a bit too expensive, but it would be nice to get a skirt, at least.

Oh... wow, yeah. [giving the dresses a closer look and nodding]

I bet those would be really cute on you.

[blush blush] Fashion isn't really important to me, skirts are just much easier to wear than pants. [but still, she's obviously pleased by the compliment]

And... [okay, this isn't the best transition that she's ever pulled off. But if she pushes it away the chance might not come back again] I'm really sorry if I offended you just now.

[and he's obviously not expecting the transition, and it leaves him blinking for a second]

...Offend me? Why would you think you did anything to offend me?

Ah... maybe I was imagining it. But you looked sad for a second. [ah, she dips her head slightly]

I'm sorry if that was a strange thing to say, but I wanted to say... something before the moment passed.

Oh... [he laughs a little and rubs the back of his neck] No, I wasn't sad or anything.

[which is a total lie, but it's better than being caught at something like that. he's making a mental note to watch himself even closer when talking to this girl.]

And I'm pretty sure you couldn't offend me, so don't worry about it.

I'm glad I didn't offend you. [she looks a little embarrassed for a moment, but brushes it off. She probably just read him wrong... they only just met, after all.]

But if I do... You should be free to tell me. Ah, not that I plan to try to offend you but-- [geez, she normally doesn't feel this awkward] I'm sorry, I must sound very silly right now.

[he chuckles again--more naturally this time--]

You don't sound silly. And don't worry, I'll tell you, if it ever comes up.

[which is also a lie, but an accidental one.]

[feeling a bit relieved and embarrassed, she's ready to go with that subject change from earlier]

Let's see, we were talking about shopping! Do you have any ideas what you would like to get with your money?

Ah, I'm still looking around.

[man, he's really on a roll with these lies. he knows exactly what he's going to get]

What about you? You going to save up for a dress?

[blindoptimism]

[she shakes her head] Our Captain sent a note that we should meet about potentially pooling together our funds. For now I think I'll just look and decide after we've all met.

[catamite]

Oh... well.

I guess just looking at them can be fun too.

[blindoptimism]

But it might be a little boring for you.

If you'd like, we could look for things that you'd like to buy first? Or, unless you'd rather shop in private. I don't mean to intrude.

Oh, I love looking at clothes, actually. Even, for like... girls.

I've lived with a lot of girls, so...

[and he really does mean all of it this time]

Oh, really? Well then if you don't mind, I'd love your company. Maybe together we'll be able to find a really good deal that I can act on later.

[excitingggg! Any now that her curiosity is piqued] Also, did you grow up with a lot of sisters?

Okay! It's been a long time since I've gotten to do that.

[ahhh he's so excited to have something fun to do, and feel useful]

And, I only have one sister, actually. An older one.

An older sister? [she smiles warmly. Older siblings... Despite the uncertain terms she left her own brother on, she still has deep fondness for the concept at least. As they head into the shop she can't help but continue to ask questions]

How much older is she?

[he likes the conversation. it helps make the shop seem less creepy, with how everything is behind glass and automated. there's no interesting crowd to keep his attention, nor shop workers to smile at. so, filling the silence with chatter helps it feel more normal.]

Like five years older, but... it pretty much counts as less, because of the whole elf thing. [--pointing at his pointy ears]

Oh, I see, that's why your ears are pointed. [woah. There are no elf in her worlds so she's interested, but doesn't want to gawk and be rude]

Are you both very close?

[catamite]

[he nods, but he's not looking at her when he does. he's looking at the dresses instead and doing a very good job of seeming totally casual about the whole thing]

We used to be. We haven't lived together since we were kids, though, so I don't get to see her very much. We're both really busy.

[blindoptimism]

[As he doesn't look at her, she forces herself to pay attention to the clothes as well. She unconsciously sighs a little bit at the end of that tale, and nods as if in sympathy]

It's difficult when life does that. But it sounds like you're still able to see her from time to time?

[catamite]

Yeah. Sometimes.

[ah, and then he points to one of the dresses that kind of stands out behind the glass--ruffly and flowy, knee-length, in a light spring green color]

Man, too bad you can't realy, like... try them on.
