Before you post your toplevel comment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names comment here, and N-Z names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your comment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

Mirage Farina Jenius
Parked outside of the hangar is a interesting looking ship that might be recognized as a VF-9 Cutlass by those who may know it. Otherwise it's easy enough to pick out that it's a well-used and well cared for machine, which seems to go for all of the other machines parked within the hangar itself.
One can look at any of the machines or perhaps go inside the hangar. In the hangar is a tool bench bearing several objects all neatly laid out - a flight helmet, a snowglobe bearing a miniature VF inside of it and a small journal.]

Since the planes are not her area of expertise, she heads inside and notices the bench. Everything's pretty well themed except the journal, which is what she reaches for.]

The airfield fades out as if a great fog has chosen to rise up in that moment and obscure it. When the fog parts it's to Mirage's voice first. She sounds just a little exasperated.]
Grandpa, I can't just -- I mean it's been so long since I started here and--
[When the scene fully comes into view, Kaname will find herself in something of a vaguely familiar spot - Mirage's room in the dorms.
Mirage is on her phone, her back to the other woman as she hunches over a table in her room.
Her shoulders are sagging even as her hand fiddles nervously with her pen.]
I...
[She sags more. The tips of her ears begin to turn red. She's clearly agonizing over this.]
I'll try.
[When the call is hung up Mirage retains her posture for a moment and then with a groan she slumps forward in defeat, forehead against the table itself.]
Why does it have to be autographs?!
no subject
Oh, Mirage... you could've just asked.
1/2
Her eyes are positively owlishly large.]
K-Kaname?!
[She heard. Honestly there was probably a big part of Mirage that had hoped she would at some point, hence the journal so nicely selecting the moment.]
no subject
By that she goes back to fiddling with the pen in her hand, flustering.]
I wasn't sure how. It's just --
[Fiddling intensifies.]
I've never really needed to ask anyone for anything before.
no subject
[Because this is just silly. They're well aware of her Grandfather's fame and would likely be honored by the request themselves.]
So, should we go back to the hangar?
no subject
Of course.
[The scenery melts away shortly and there they are, smack dab back at Jenius Air for the moment. Mirage herself seems nonplussed.]
no subject
[The Jenius name is known by most, so it's easy for Kaname to figure it out. She takes a moment to look around. Planes aren't her thing, but she can definitely appreciate the skills it takes to pilot or repair them.]

It's the family business you could say. He does still run it though.
[At that there's a light wind and from somewhere unseen the light tinkling laughter of a child.]
It brings back a lot of good memories.

She turns to glance at the door of the hangar, then looks to the snow globe.]
I wonder... [So she reaches out.]

There they are again at the RaguNyanNyan on the evening of Freyja's birthday party. The moment the doors burst open Freyja's excitement is more than palpable. She leaps over the railing screaming about snow and Mirage herself steps out, realizing that this is obviously Hayate's present. After a day full of trying to figure out what to get her this was what he had come up with, hm?
Perhaps he wasn't as much of an idiot as she thought he was. Maybe. She watched the pair of them, Freya's rune lit up and Hayate giving it a teasing poke briefly. Freyja's flushed cheeks as she proclaims how much she loves the present.
And that's when Mirage realizes fully and completely that she never stood a chance to begin with. She might laugh if she were alone but instead she turns her gaze to the night sky and the falling snow lit up against it. Not to sound like a romantic, though she supposed she still did, but Freyja was meant for Hayate and Hayate was meant for Freyja and there had never been any room in there for her. Not even for an instant.
She goes home shortly after, all proper 'good nights' and 'see you tomorrow' to everyone. Then once safely in her room she allows herself the luxury of settling down on her bed and feeling thoroughly, completely sorry for herself where she knows it will hurt no one but herself.]

Mirage... Are you all right?

Or a very detailed simulated reconstruction of one, he still isn't 100% sure how any of this "calibration" stuff worked, but even knowing it wasn't technically there wasn't enough to stop him from nerding out.
He does at least have the presence of mind to at least make a quick look around him, just to see if anyone was in sight- if only to avoid being rude and ignoring someone completely- before just jumping right up against the fuselage to get a better look inside the cockpit. Who even needed a ladder when you could just jump up and cling on by putting your hands on the cockpit canopy?]
no subject
And giggling? It sounds childish and sweet though at the very least.
Once he's up on the VF itself though he'll find a little girl plunked down in the pilot's seat.]
no subject
There is not, however, any reason to be bossy about it. So he'll just play things straight and treat the little pilot like she's definitely the one supposed to be sitting inside the cockpit of a war machine.]
Hey, lieutenant?
[Because all pilots were traditionally officers, right? Wait, what rank of officers? What even were the ranks? Whatever, he's committed now, it's too late to change anything.]
Sorry to bother you, but I think I'm a little lost. Could you spare a minute?
[And maybe not ask about how he's just... there because honestly he didn't even check for a ladder before jumping up here and he is a terrible liar. Like, hard-pressed to fool an actual child terrible, which is kind of unfortunate for him right now.]
no subject
It takes her a moment apparently to register the 'lieutenant' portion but when she does and he mentions he's lost, the little girl lights up. Evidently she's decided he's not scolding her so he can't be one of the workers that her mother sent to find her.]
Sure! Uh... just don't tell my mom where you found me, okay?
no subject
Well, that would involve me admitting I was sneaking a peek inside the cockpit myself. And then we'd both be in trouble!
[This is...probably fine? He's like 99% sure this is just another one of those mental rooms, so it's not like he'd actually have to cover for young Maverick here. Right? Maybe?]
So, I won't tell if you won't. You need a hand getting out?
no subject
Nope, I'm fine!
[And she seems to be true to her word. She hops out of the cockpit straight out of the side, dangles a moment and then drops down the rest of the way. It's not too long of a drop and she seems more than used to the maneuver. It gives the impression that she's snuck around like this plenty of times before.
She looks back up to where Peter is, calling up to him:]
Are you here to see my grandpa?
