→ STEVE ( OPEN | JUNE )
[ so admittedly, after the time spent wearing gas mask followed by the entire awful mess created by the atroma, the change of scene is welcome. there don't seem to be many troubles on this planet, the natives seem happy and satisfied with their lives and the peaceful atmosphere is more than appreciated.
it also gives him a chance to go back to a habit he has grown to miss. during the early hours of the morning, Steve Rogers can be seen jogging by the beach in his training pants and a t-shirt. unless you have some sort of super speed, it'll be a little impossible to catch up with him but he'll slow down for the second round.
sometimes, after that, in a sort of a last-minute decision, he'll lose the t-shirt and go for a swim, not minding the cooler water of the early hours. emerging, he'll spend his time watching the ocean and looking at the different sea-shells.
when the afternoon changes into evening, you might find him there, sketching the horizon line ]
[ he makes himself useful. for a few hours a day, you could see him carrying boxes full of goods for the vendors and helping them setting up stalls. he refuses most of the money offered in return.
you might catch him at the part of the market that contains flowers, staring at the different choices as if the best one would present itself to him.
he's overthinking this entire 'get some flowers for a woman' thing but you're more than welcome to pitch in and help ]
[ ok so even the most professional girls would like a cute, fluffy pet, right? right.
one warm summer day, you might find steve rogers at the outskirts of the forest, standing still and staring at something a few meters away. come closer, and he'll raise a hand, no sudden movement.
he has his eyes set on one of the creatures for some time snow and he might be holding a little box.
don't tell me you didn't want to see captain america capturing a cute ball of fluff. ]
[ for anything else! ]
A;;
A weight off his shoulders.
Another thing the planet is good for is the unfamiliar scenery. Sure, he's come across these things in passing or the rest are hidden in hard to reach memories. The beach is his favorite. There's something calming about just watching the water roll in and out, and the crashing waves drown out a lot of residual noise. The colors are beautiful once day passes, and he doesn't have to think about anything if he doesn't want. Not even being a person or keeping up appearances.
Winter doesn't even mind that his back is exposed and the sounds of approach are muted by sand and waves. Which is how he finds Steve in his venture to find a spot to sit.
The sight of him sketching is nostalgic in a way that he doesn't get the opportunity to feel much anymore. Some things are certain in his memory, and the ones that stand out the most are Steve is a very talented artist and Steve used to draw a lot more.
He tries to be quiet on his approach and lowers himself into the sand a yard or two away so he can watch both the sun sinking into the horizon and Steve capturing it. ]

I was hoping to see you.

He wants to be outside, because he knows the minute he has to go back, it's back to hiding. It's a selfish want to experience it fully before the unknown. Part of him feels a little guilty for over-indulging, but he's earned the right, hasn't he?
The breeze is warm and refreshing. Winter's attention flits back to Steve, and he offers a tilt of his head. ]

She moves in closer, taking silent, phased steps until she can follow his line of sight.]
...It's a slug.
Do you think it's going to fly away or strike at you if you startle it?
no subject
[ he smiles at her. the slug is small enough, certainly but if he can collect him with as little fuss to the thing as possible, then why not. to the little guy, he once toasted. the compassion that drives him seems to make him feel a bit of pity towards the animal here, too.

While he is a bit faster than a normal human thanks to his Augmented blood, he's nowhere near Steve. He pouts when the man passes him so quickly, but knows when he's outclassed. He waits for him to come back around, lightly kicking water at him from the surf with a teasing smirk. ]
Show off.
no subject
[ his smile is easy. the air is cooler during those hours and the beach is fairly empty save for him and Jim and some early rising vendors already setting up their stalls on the shoreline. he halts, doesn't duck to avoid the water. ]
Another round?
[ he's done four but he could go for a fifth. ]
no subject
Kirk jerked his chin and set off at a brisk jogging pace. ]
Something tells me I'm never going to be quite as fast as you, Captain. But I'm sure I'll learn to live with that.

[ you know, there's picking up flowers for a girl you met the week before at a party or at a coffee place or wherever young fellas meet their gals and there is picking up flowers for someone, well.

seaside »
and at the shore, this morning, she finds a wide flat rock to sit on while he jogs. sometimes, she watches his figure bobbing in the distance, miles away. sometimes she watches the water turning blue then orange than blue again. sometimes she shuts her eyes and breathes in the salt.
by the time he finishes his run, she has collected a tidy pile of pretty rocks -- all worn down by time and seawater alike. and a bit of driftwood, too. the heap of mismatched souvenirs reminds her of childhood trips down to poole and to southampton. ]
My word, [ she greets him with a crooked smile. ] Do you run like that every day?
[ as if she didn't know. ]
no subject
This planet is far more welcoming than the moon and it doesn't take Steve long to understand she will do much better at the inn than in the captain's quarters aboard the Starstuck. The air is clear and the place is decent.
She finds him one early morning before he leaves for his jog and he knows better than to argue, especially when he knows she is right. A bit of a walk might do her a world of good and so he supports her as they make their way to the beach, her weight against him and his arm around her.
It's not so hot now, the sky is a mixture of oranges that quickly change to blue as he runs, welcoming a new day.
He is well aware of her even as he runs, not as closely as he was when she leaned against him but he casts a look in her direction every now and then and is perhaps a little relieved to return to her side after he has run a satisfactory number of rounds. ]
Gotta keep in shape somehow.
[ said with a smile as he leans to pick up one of those stones and look at it ]
That's a pretty keepsake.

she watches him inspect her stones and sticks. ] Maybe. If I keep them, they will be. [ she hasn't yet decided. ]

it's much nicer to jog when you're actually going somewhere.
when he sees steve pass by, he doesn't even try to catch up with him - the guy doesn't need to be a super soldier to make that an impossible task for winn. instead, considering the date and everything he knows about the man, he decides to use his wit to slow him down.
he stops in his tracks and starts singing the star spangled banner at the top of his voice. the rendition is a little shaky, as he hasn't given himself a chance to catch his breath before starting, but still pleasant enough to listen to. ]
no subject
he does, of course, stop as soon as the first notes of the national anthem are sung. an odd place to share respect but he won't voice any questions until after it is done. he exhales, places a hand over his heart and stands still until the end. he's not the type to join in the singing but he pays his respects in his quiet way.
he'll give him a little smile when he'll be done ]

He's sitting out on the edge of one last far-flung pier on the beach, one finger aimed at the makeshift metal hook he has sunk in the water as he watches the ebb and flow of the tide. Keeping an eye out for the silvery dart of fish, or other marine life. Steve swimming out into the waves is far more noticeable than all of that, though, and it draws his attention for the moment. When he draws closer, he calls out.]

→ NATASHA
But it's difficult and for once, he has someone to talk to about those things. there would be the subject of Barton, too.
Natasha is tough as nails but all of those things together plus a space reality show? Steve thinks the least he can offer her is a nice dinner and the planet's equivalent of good wine.
and maybe something else too. when he picks her up, he places a little bag in her hand. ]
Figured you might like these.
[ they're sugared fruit cubes, a variety of whatever the planet seems to offer. ]
no subject
She takes one of the fruit pieces and tries it.]
Not bad. You know, I think you're just flowers away from making this look like a real date.
